Paul Proia's User Review

User Says
A bit slow paced, but a decent enough movie. Knoxville's likability seals the deal.

Story
Daltry Calhoun (Johnny Knoxville) sells sod to the best golf courses in the country, putting the tiny town of Duckville, TN on the map. When he announces his goal of opening his own golf course for the locals, he meets with financial difficulties. His problems are compounded when he learns that he has a daughter, June (Sophie Traub), and becomes involved with Flora (Juliette Lewis). Fortunately, Calhoun's good character and faith hold out along the way.

Acting
Knoxville is decent enough - not asked to stretch too far, but serviceable as an actor. Juliette Lewis steals the show with a solid performance - very believable and (for her) a different character. David Koechner is remarkable as Doyle Earl, a landscaper working for Daltry who is taught to read by Daltry's daughter, June.

Direction
Katrina Holden Bronson's maiden effort is decent enough - worth a second look. The movie is goofy without being funny - in fact, you have to get on with the idea that this really isn't a comedy, but rather a story about growth and maturation. Still, it grows on you as you watch it.
