HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 30, 2000 -- Police have charged actor Brad Renfro, the youngster from "The Client" and "Apt Pupil," with grand theft after he and a friend were accused of taking a 45-foot yacht from its berth in Florida on Monday morning. According to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., police reports, the dynamic duo forgot to untie the boat’s dock lines. When the pair tried to leave the dock, the $175,000 vessel was pulled back, damaging the stern and stranding the boys.

Renfro and his pal Harold Bond, 24, were held by nearby boaters until police and the boat’s manager arrived.

Fort Lauderdale Police Department spokesman Mike Reed said the actor was evasive when he was questioned by detectives Monday. Renfro was released from jail that night on $10,000 bail.

The teen was in town shooting his next film, "Bully." Cameras had been scheduled to role Tuesday on the Tri-Mark film

Brad Renfro, of The Client and Apt Pupil, was arrested and charged Wednesday in his hometown of Knoxville, Tenn., for underage drinking, according to The Associated Press. Already on probation in Florida for trying to steal a yacht, the 18-year-old actor reportedly admitted that he had been drinking early Wednesday after the car he was riding in was stopped for a minor traffic violation. He was arrested and taken into custody, but was later released on $500 bond, Knox County Sheriff's Department spokesman Mike Evans told AP. In January, Renfro was sentenced to two-years probation and ordered to pay more than $4,000 for repairs to a yacht that he tried to steal in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 7, 2001 -- A Florida judged gave actor Brad Renfro two years probation and ordered him to pay more than $4,000 to repair a yacht he tried to steal with a friend last summer, the Associated Press reports.

``I don't have any excuses or fast one-liners to pull out of my shoes,'' Renfro told Broward County Circuit Judge Ronald Rothschild on Thursday.

Renfro, 18, the star of the 1994 film “The Client," and a friend tried to steal the yacht Aug. 28, but were caught by nearby boaters after the would-be thieves forgot to untie the $175,000 vessel from the dock. Renfro agreed to pay $4,204.55 for damages to the yacht and $141.02 to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department for investigative costs.
