Dolly Parton is fixing to bust in on Broadway's Annie Get Your Gun. Crystal Bernard (TV's Wings) is set to replace Reba McEntire as the gun-toting Annie when McEntire departs on June 22, but Parton has been wooed to replace Bernard soon after, says the New York Post. Parton seems a natural for the play's "double" entendres.

HOLLYWOOD, March 15, 2001 -- Dolly Parton as Mae West? You were thinking of someone else?

ABC is developing a made-for-TV movie about the legendary buxom blonde Mae West specifically with the country-singer/actress Parton in mind, but it has not been confirmed on whether Parton has agreed to the project. Parton would certainly fit the bill as the seductive and sexually charged West, whose tremendous comic timing was unmatched in her time. West made nine films before her death in 1980.

Parton, whose acting career has stalled since her memorable turns in films such as Nine to Five (1980) and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas(1982), could look at this role as a comeback of sorts.

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 18, 2000 -- Who needs to go to the record store anymore? The Offspring, that Orange County, Calif., punk outfit of "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" fame, is going to release its new album straight to fans via the Internet.

And get this: It's free.

Next month, "Conspiracy for One" will be available in Mp3 format from The Offspring's official site www.offspring.com. Fans who download the album can enter in a $1 million drawing, too.

The band thinks fans will buy the CD version anyway, since it contains interactive features (it lets you access special features on The Offspring's Web site, including advance concert ticket purchases).

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 30, 2000 -- Picky stations and antsy advertisers were bad enough. And then "God, the Devil and Bob" had to go and commit the worst TV sin: Bad ratings. NBC announced Wednesday that it was pulling the half-hour animated series from its 8:30 p.m. Tuesday time slot effective immediately. For "God," the end came after only four broadcasts.

In a statement, the network said it was "very proud of the work" but "disappointed that it wasn't able to garner a larger audience."

What the show did garner was lots of ink. As many as 22 NBC affiliates -- covering roughly 5 percent of the TV nation -- refused to air the show in primetime. Objections ranged from: It's not funny to it's blasphemous to hey, God looks too much like Jerry Garcia. (That last one was lodged by the relatives of the late Grateful Dead rocker.)

For the TV week ended Sunday, "God
