NEW YORK, NY, June 5, 2000 -- No one knows this yet but there's a new musical that will land on Broadway very soon and it will be a huge, huge hit.

How can we be so sure? Yes, the spankin' new musical comedy version of the smash indie "The Full Monty" opened last Thursday at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre to great reviews, including one in Monday's Variety, but this column has always been a little, uh, skeptical of critics.

But one of the theater world's most seasoned professionals (now a major force on the West Coast after having cut his teeth in New York for years) caught a preview early last week and declared "The Full Monty" an "unequivocal smash" and "howlingly commercial."

Yes, playwright Terrence McNally ("The Kiss of the Spider Woman," "Master Class," "Love! Valour! Compassion!") uncharacteristically breaks no new ground here, but he and novice musical comedy

HOLLYWOOD, June 26, 2000 -- In the grand tradition of Elvis Presley and Liberace, Britney Spears is about to become a museum. That’s right, plans are currently under way to put together a venue dedicated to the life and career (such as they are) of the 18-year-old popster in the city of Kentwood, La. -- aka the "Oops!...I Did It Again" chart-topper’s hometown.

The Britney Spear Museum will be an add on to the town’s military history-themed Kentwood Museum. (See the connection? Well, no, neither do we.)

The wing will be divided into three sections chronicling the popstress' personal and family history; her time on Disney’s "The Mickey Mouse Club;" and her current status as a teenybopper superstar.

According to Britney Spears Museum co-coordinator Sandy Reed, the Britney wing will probably take up half of the Kentwood Museum's existing space. (Who needs military hi

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 6, 2000 -- It ain't his blue suede shoes, but it's just as valuable.

Elvis Presley's U.S. Army uniform goes on the auction block today, and experts say that the stained garment could fetch as much as $36,000, Reuters reports.

The uniform, stained with paint after the King leaned against a freshly painted window, was issued to Presley before he headed for his station in Germany.

Presley was issued a new jacket after staining the first one, but a member of the painting crew kept the original as a souvenir. It's now owned by Elvis fan Johnny Earle.

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 7, 2000 -- Madonna's "Music," the first release from her album of the same name due out Sept. 19, has raced to the top of The Billboard Hot 100 singles chart after only six weeks. "Music" is the Queen of Music's 12th chart-topping hit in the United States.

"I wanna conquer the world!" an energetic 24-year-old giggled to an amused Dick Clark back in 1983. Since her declaration, Madonna has amassed 33 Top 10 singles, putting her behind only the Beatles (34) and Elvis Presley (38) on the all-time Billboard list.

But it's all about being No. 1, right?

The following is a breakdown of Madonna's No. 1 U.S. singles:

(1) "Like A Virgin" (1984): Remember being "touched for the very first time"?

(2) "Crazy for You" (1985): "I see you through the smoky air." Madonna's first top ballad was THE prom song of that year.

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 30, 2000 -- He isn't afraid of large audiences, and he isn't afraid of a major brawl, either ... in court, of course. English superstar Elton John is suing a top accounting firm and his former accountant for $29 million John says is missing from his music empire, Reuters reports.

Rather than getting involved with all the boring details of how to spend and invest his money, John's lawyer says that the 53-year-old pianist entrusted the firm with that job until he noticed $29 million of it was missing.

John is expected to testify in the British court as a witness.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 4, 2000 -- Cybill Shepherd, actress, model, spokeswoman, is giving new meaning to the term "tell-all." In her new Jerry Springer-style confessional, "Cybill Disobedience: How I Survived Beauty Pageants, Elvis, Sex, Bruce Willis, Lies, Marriage, Motherhood, Hollywood and the Irrepressible Urge to Say What I Think" (in stores today), the outspoken actress/model lives up (or down) to her rep.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 24, 2000 -- The morning after the Golden Globes, the Directors Guild of America heated up the awards competition by announcing its nominees for director of the year.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 2, 2000 -- It's very hard to top Michael Jackson, but Lisa Marie Presley seems to think she's done it.

Elvis' daughter, who married Jackson in May 1994 (and divorced him 20 months later), will marry again -- this time to rock singer John Oszajea, her spokesman, Paul Bloch, said Tuesday. The happy couple met in May and became engaged just before Christmas.

The story goes that Oszajea, 25, first went to Presley's mother, Priscilla Presley, to ask for her daughter's hand in marriage. After receiving her blessing, Oszajea formally proposed to Presley, 32.

For those of you keeping track, this will be Lisa's third go with a musician -- first husband Danny Keough, then the Gloved One, now Oszajea (due to release his first album this year).

All this rocker influence is finally rubbing off on her: Lisa Marie's currently recording her firs
