HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 10, 2000 -- Nevermind his Academy Award or his legendary performances as a tough guy. Now the U.S. Postal Service is giving actor Edward G. Robinson a stamp of approval -- literally.

The late actor will be honored Oct. 24 with a new commemorative postage stamp donning the face of the acting icon. The ceremony will be held at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood in conjunction with AFI 2000, an international film festival hosted by the American Film Institute.

A screening of one of Robinson's most memorable films, "The Cincinnati Kid," will follow the ceremony. Robinson starred in more than 90 films throughout his career, including "Double Indemnity" (1944), "Key Largo" (1948) and "The Ten Commandments" (1956).

Robinson joins a handful of Hollywood stars who have been honored with a commemorative stamp. They include Marilyn Monroe (1995), James Dean (1
