NEW YORK, N.Y., Jan. 24, 2000 -- The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's 57th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night was dubbed "Hollywood's party of the year," and it certainly brought out some of Hollywood's biggest names. But a closer look under the show's "Holly-hood" reveals New York, like Hollywood, as big a star of the ceremony.
Yes, Hollywood pillars such as Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise, Jack Lemmon and Peter Fonda hugged statuettes for, respectively, "Man on the Moon," "Magnolia," "Inherit the Wind" and "Passion of Ayn Rand." And DreamWorks' "American Beauty" and Disney/Pixar's "Toy Story 2," both, cinematically speaking, very much American beauties, are most definitely brilliant Hollywood creations.
But, moving right along and Hollywood aside, New Yorkers couldn't get enough awards and recognition. Central Park West's Michael J. Fox, who sadly is leaving "Spin Cit

HOLLYWOOD, June 30, 2000 -- Maybe they should try burning their bras. Throwing their weight behind the feminist struggle for equal pay (well, that's our take), Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco -- the other-sex factors in the hit HBO mobster series "The Sopranos" -- reportedly are hitting up the cable network with salary renegotiation demands, just in time for production of the new season. (Cameras start rolling in August.)
The Hollywood Reporter says that the two actresses are seeking deals similar to the six-figure raise their fellow co-star -- James Gandolfini, a male -- inked last year.
On the show, Falco plays Gandolfini's wife; Bracco plays his psychiatrist.
We called HBO for comment, but they were gone for the Fourth of July holiday.

As the 300 guests at the Salon des Ambassadeurs dined on a Mediterranean fish plate with assorted mushrooms, Piper-Heidsieck champagne and a Palme d'Or strawberry delight, the 54th Cannes International Film Festival handed out its top honors Sunday.
Jodie Foster, who bowed out earlier this year as jury president, fulfilled her obligation as the closing ceremony's host. The awards were characterized as oddly conventional, with the 10-member jury sticking to more established filmmakers rather than the fresher talent from the 23 films in competition. In contrast, last year's jury came under fire for giving the top prize - the Palme d'Or - to Lars von Trier's controversial and divisive Dancer in the Dark.

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 30, 2001 -- Nominations for the 7th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced today in Los Angeles at L.A.'s Pacific Design Center.
The unique show, honoring performers from 13 movie and TV categories, will air on TNT, Sunday, March 11 from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center.
The nominations in the movie categories aren’t surprising, with frontrunners Russell Crowe’s from “Gladiator” and Golden Globe winner Julia Roberts from “Erin Brockovich” easily making the list. Golden Globe winners Tom Hanks for “Cast Away” and Kate Hudson for “Almost Famous” snag nominations as well.
Several nominees in the television categories are returning to try their luck again, namely James Gandolfini and Edie Falco from “The Sopranos,” who both won in their respective categories last year. Also, die-hard dramas, such as “ER” and “Law & Order,” are back fo

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 21, 2001 -- One thing remains clear after tonight's 58th Annual Golden Globe Awards: There was a definite lack of a dominant film on the block. Though certain sure bets did come out victorious, no single film was able to sweep the Globes, leaving the upcoming Oscar race as wide open as it was before.
Heavy contenders "Traffic," "Almost Famous," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Gladiator" all took home two Globes apiece at the annual star-studded event.
As expected, Julia Roberts won the award for best actress in a movie (drama) for her work in "Erin Brockovich". However, she was visibly surprised when "Brockovich" director Steven Soderbergh went home empty-handed.
"I was shocked, actually," Roberts said backstage. "I suppose when I presented the best director and Steven [Soderbergh] didn't win for either film ["Traffic" and "Erin

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 11, 2001 -- If anything, it won't be a total and complete shutout for "Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
Or will it?
The Jim Carrey blockbuster is among the seven films being considered for this year's Visual Effects Oscar, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday.
Going up against the Grinch himself will be "Cast Away," "Dinosaur," "Gladiator," "Hollow Man," "The Perfect Storm" and "X-Men."
After the Visual Effects Award Nominating Committee have screened all the 15-minute clip reels from each of the seven films on Feb. 7, the group will nominate three of them for Oscar consideration, which will be announced with the rest of the nominees in the other 22 categories on Feb. 13 at 5:30 a.m. PT.

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 8, 2001 -- Will the mob run amok at the castle?

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 6, 2000 -- Like it or not, a superstar maintains the right to be busy. And like it or not, Leonardo DiCaprio is a busy superstar.
The "Titanic" superstar has temporarily dropped out of his next project, DreamWorks' "Catch Me If You Can," The Hollywood Reporter says. The studio has yet to decide on whether to recast the role or to wait for a possible change of mind from the actor.
The project, which co-stars "The Sopranos'" James Gandolfini, is based on the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., a scam artist/impersonator who successfully committed frauds in 26 foreign countries.
DiCaprio is currently shooting Martin Scorsese's big gangster flick "Gangs of New York," which is running two weeks over schedule.

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 18, 2000 -- Call him Matthew McConaughey, dragon slayer. Daily Variety reports that the "U-571" hunk will star opposite Christian Bale ("American Psycho") in "Reign of Fire." The big-budget flick will go into production early next year in England.
SHE'S THE ONE: Keanu Reeves' Neo isn't the only one getting all the play in the next two "Matrix" sequels. The Hollywood Reporter says that Jada Pinkett Smith might join the original cast of the two sequels for the Wachowski brothers sci-fi flick. HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 18, 2000 -- The four-year love affair is over. Daily Variety reports today that MTV has canceled the late-night series “Loveline” after a four-year run.

“Loveline,” hosted by Adam Corolla, Dr. Drew Pinsky and Catherine McCord, has accumulated 369 half-hours since its MTV debut in November 1996.
THE $10 MILLION MAN: Recent Emmy winner James Gandolfini has signed a renegotiated contract that will give him $10 million for the next two seasons of the HBO hit drama “The Sopranos,” Variety says. SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 10, 2000 -- Agent Clarice Starling could be back on the case in the big-screen version of "Hannibal." After Jodie Foster dropped out to direct "Flora Plum," the project looked to be filed away -- or at least returned to producer Dino DeLaurentiis.
Now it appears that "Magnolia" star Julianne Moore could be ready for her FBI badge and power suit. Daily Variety reports that the busy actress (she appeared in five movies in 1999) is in strong contention for active duty. Although Universal tells Hollywood.com that the actress hasn't committed yet, the studio may very well put her on the front line.
Variety says the role Moore is looking at is indeed that of Clarice Starling -- and not an all-new FBI agent character, as had been rumored when Foster bailed on the project.
Moore is a wild card in a "Hannibal" derby where Cate Blanchett, Hilary
