HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 11, 2001 -- Looks like the on-again, off-again "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" is finally ready to get it on.
Daily Variety reports that Johnny Depp is in final talks to star in the project, which is a biopic based on the autobiography of Chuck Barris, aka "The Gong Show" host, who says that he also worked for the CIA.
Adding more weight to the offbeat film would be George Clooney, who might join Depp in a co-starring role as a CIA recruiting agent.
The project will be directed by "X-Men's" Bryant Singer and is written by "Being John Malkovich" scribe Charlie Kaufman.
GETTING THE 'JOB' DONE: Kevin Costner will reunite with "Bull Durham" and "Tin Cup" helmer Ron Shelton in the action thriller "Two Guys on the Job," Variety says.
The story is about two San Francisco cops who begin as partners but eventually become bitter enemies.

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 15, 2000 -- Even dreams of being a millionaire becomes passe after a little while.
And that's perhaps why the once ubergameshow "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" is upping its loot.
According to USA Today, the titular ABC quiz show -- which has brought daytime talker Regis Philbin to primetime TV -- is increasing its top prize to save itself from declining ratings and waning audience interest.
Here's how the monetary hike is going to work: Starting with the Jan. 4 episode, the show's producer will tag on an additional $10K for each day that the million-dollar jackpot isn't hit.
Let the games begin. PAPA DON'T PREACH: Once your little girl, always your little girl. And it doesn't matter if she is now all grown up, married and is an international superstar.
Just ask Jon Voight.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 19, 2000 -- What does an A-list surname like Coppola get you in Hollywood? Memo to Sofia Coppola, whose directorial debut, "The Virgin Suicides," opens today: It won't necessarily get you famous.
While nepotism is alive and well in the acting trade, your dad's coattails won't give you much of a free ride in the cutthroat world of directing. Case in point: There are lots of famous actors who have passed their occupational torch to their equally famous offspring (Blythe Danner to Gwyneth Paltrow, Jon Voight to Angelina Jolie, the Fonda clan), but few big-name directors have given rise to big-name directors.
Instead, great filmmakers tend to spawn auteur-minded kids, whose work never quite measures up to dad's (Witness Nick Cassavetes, Jennifer Lynch and Anjelica Huston).
These second-generation directors tend to have two things in common
