Hollywood.saw sharp declines across the board at the box office over the post-Thanksgiving weekend as moviegoing gave way to holiday shopping.

Woody Harrelson's renewable energy and bicycle tour went through Washington state recently to include the Solar Living Center in its soon to be released film What Every Young Person Should Know. I now implicitly understand that actors have way too much money and way too much time on their hands. I thought Woody's pet cause was hemp? After all, Woody's been seen wearing a hemp suit, with a hemp belt and matching hemp shoes. All of the Deadheads I know have been following Woody around since Jerry Garcia dies.

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 20, 2000 -- When it comes to eroticism, the Germans prefer offerings from the United States.

Reuters reports that former "Baywatch" babe Pamela Anderson and film hunk George Clooney topped German moviegoers’ list as the most erotic actors of all time.

The results of the poll were printed in Cinema magazine on Thursday, with Clooney and Anderson heating up the Germans’ (as Austin Powers would say) mojo, baby.

Anderson barely edged out Mexican actress Salma Hayek for the top slot, with Cameron Diaz coming in third.

Nastassja Kinski was voted most erotic German actress, in 26th place overall, with local stud Til Schweiger 35th in the male polling.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 11, 2000 -- Filmmaker Roger Vadim, best known for discovering Brigitte Bardot and keeping company with the likes of Jane Fonda and Catherine Deneuve, died today of cancer. He was 72.

The Paris-born Vadim was married to the then-teenage Bardot when he made his directorial debut in 1956 with "And God Created Woman." The film launched Bardot's career as a sex symbol and stirred much talk for its outrageous (at the time) unveiling of her skin. In the short run, "And God ..." was banned in several countries. In the long run, it helped launch France's New Wave film movement of the 1950s.

In 1965, Vadim wed a 27-year-old, pre-controversial Jane Fonda (his third wife). Two years later, the couple teamed to reveal Fonda's own assets on screen with the Vadim-directed sci-fi cult hit "Barbarella". The couple had one daughter, Vanessa, before splitt

Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe and Mickey Rourke will join Antonio Banderas in the third installment of director Robert Rodriguez's trilogy loosely based on Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns. Once Upon a Time in Mexico: Desperado 2 will begin shooting in Mexico this week, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trilogy began with El Mariachi in 1992 and followed with Desperado three years later. Desperado, which starred Banderas, Quentin Tarantino and Selma Hayek, grossed $25 million domestically.

One would think Jamie Lee Curtis - and Michael Myers, for that matter - would have learned their lessons in the previous seven Halloween installments. Michael was beheaded in the last film, the 1998 Halloween: H2O, for heaven's sakes. But, unfortunately, that is not the case. They've decided to come back for one more go around in Dimension Films' Halloween: The Homecoming. A group of teens - when will old people be the ones being stalked? - go to Michael's home to stage a live Internet chat. Production is to start Monday in Vancouver. Curtis has signed on to reprise her spunky role and maybe this time she'll actually kill her misanthropic mental patient brother for good. With or without his head.

Director Robert Rodriguez and his favorite leading man Antonio Banderas, both hot off the hit film Spy Kids, will reteam for Once Upon a Time in Mexico for Dimension Films. Continuing the trilogy that began with Rodriguez's El Mariachi and Desperado, the new film is loosely based on the spaghetti Western classic The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Rodriguez told the Hollywood Reporter that he will return to a more "down and dirty, more experimental style of shooting" as he displayed in the first film El Mariachi. Quentin Tarantino and Salma Hayek are in talks to reprise their roles, with Mickey Rourke also joining the cast.

"Gladiator" continued to rule the box office this weekend, collecting another $24 million in tribute from moviegoers.

The R-rated action adventure from DreamWorks easily held on to first place in its second week with a hefty ESTIMATED $24.3 million (-30%) at 2,943 theaters (+40 theaters; $8,257 per theater). Its cume is approximately $73.3 million, heading for about $150 million in domestic theaters.

"Gladiator's" per theater average was the highest for any film playing in wide release this weekend.

"Obviously, it's a strong hold," DreamWorks distribution head Jim Tharp said Sunday morning. "The positive word-of-mouth continues to be very strong."

Although DreamWorks is distributing "Gladiator" domestically, Universal is releasing it internationally. The two studios are 50-50 partners, sharing equally in its success. The film reportedly cost $1
