It certainly pays to be an Academy Award winner-in more ways than one. Sure, there's the adulation and prestige one receives when winning an Oscar, but did you also know it could help you live longer?
According to a study published in Tuesday's Annals of Internal Medicine, Academy Award winners live nearly four years longer than those actors who have been nominated but haven't actually won the gold statuette.
Lead author Dr. Donald Redelmeier, director of clinical epidemiology at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Center in Toronto, who specializes in general Internal Medicine, attributes these additional years of life to the kind of satisfaction a person gets from a deep sense of accomplishment, making them more resilient.

HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 20, 2001 - One of Hollywood's greatest filmmakers, Stanley Kramer, died on Monday, battling pneumonia. He was 87.
A socially conscious director (a label he hated), Kramer made such classics as "The Defiant Ones" (1958), starring Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier as escaped convicts; the moving if depressing ode to nuclear holocaust "On the Beach" (1959), starring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner; and two of the most powerful courtroom dramas ever made -- "Inherit The Wind" (1960) about the famed "Monkey" trials on teaching evolution in schools and "Judgement at Nuremberg" (1961) about the Nazi war criminal trials.
Kramer was also one of the first independent producers, working outside the studio system and raising financing himself. He produced such films as "High Noon" (1952) starring Gary Cooper and "The Wild Ones" (1954) starring Marlon Brando.

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 20, 2000 -- The media just want to get a peek at Madonna. But the pop star’s security guards want to take a peek under her guests’ kilts.
Photographers, cameramen and reporters from all over the world have already begun to set up camp in the sleepy Scottish town of Dornoch for what will be the biggest celebrity wedding of the year, Reuters reports. The Queen of Pop is scheduled to marry British filmmaker Guy Ritchie (“Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels”) at Skibo castle on Friday.
But the media frenzy is expected to start going into overdrive Thursday when the couple will christen their 3-month-old baby, Rocco.
Security is said to be extremely tight, with rumors going around saying that the pop star’s security guards will be checking under Scotsmen’s kilts as they enter the castle to keep those pesky hidden cameras at bay.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 14, 2000 -- Kidney surgery wasn't enough to keep Steven Spielberg from making an impassioned plea for diversity. The 53-year-old director skipped the red carpet arrivals but mustered the strength to make it to the podium at the 31st NAACP Image Awards on Saturday in Pasadena, Calif.
Only a few days after having a kidney removed, the filmmaker -- looking no worse for his recent wear -- urged his peers in the industry to continue to "expand the opportunities of the portrayal of diversity in all medium." His call to action came after receiving the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's Vanguard Award for his "pioneering courage to promote social justice through creative endeavors."
"A couple of days ago, I was in the hospital,'' the director said. ``This is the first time I've been out since my operation and it feels like a dr
