This crafty indie with a big-budget cast goes from a seemingly paint-by-numbers noirish comic thriller to something entirely more genre-bending. Definitely a ride worth taking.

This plane-crossing load of malarkey is not altogether awful until two-thirds in, the exact point when the music stops, you see the abysmal finale coming at you like a brick-loaded train, and you wish you'd rented The Ring instead.

If you have to sit through another adaptation of Peter Pan, this version is serviceable, if not original, with enough eye candy and enjoyable performances to make it worthwhile.

Although the singing and dancing aren't as good as on Broadway, Chicago is thoroughly entertaining. Look for it to gather a few accolades in the coming award season.

City by the Sea is an uneven picture with peaks of greatness and valleys of melodrama that make the overall viewing experience more like a roller-coaster ride at Coney Island than an eye candy-filled walk down the Long Beach boardwalk in its heydey.
