Actress Pauley Perrette is refusing to wed her fiance until same sex marriage is legal across the U.S. The NCIS star, a longtime supporter of equal rights causes, became engaged to former British Marine and aspiring actor Thomas Arklie, 52, in 2011, but she has been putting off her big day because she only wants to exchange vows when gay marriage is officially recognised in all 50 U.S. states. So far, lawmakers have legalised same-sex marriage in 19 states, including California, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
The 45-year-old bride-to-be tells Us Weekly, "Every day we get closer. But it's fun being engaged."
Perrette, who was previously married to actor/musician Coyote Shivers, isn't the first celebrity to make such a vow - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie famously made a similar declaration upon their engagement in 2012, while Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard also promised not to wed until same-sex marriage was legalised in California. They became man and wife in October (13), almost four months after the state's ban on gay unions was lifted in June, 2013.
Francis 'Coyote' Shivers has been slapped with one count of violating a court order and one count of probation violation. He faces 18 months behind bars if convicted.
Shivers was arrested last month (Mar12) after showing up at a Los Angeles sushi restaurant where Perrette and her fiance, aspiring actor Thomas Arklie, were having dinner and an argument broke out.
The guitarist, who is currently on probation for sending harassing emails to Perrette's lawyer, maintains the encounter was a coincidence, reports TMZ.com.
Perrette was married to Shivers from 2000 until 2004.
Perrette reportedly called in cops last month (Mar12) after encountering her ex Francis 'Coyote' Shivers during a sushi dinner with her new fiance, aspiring actor Thomas Arklie, in Los Angeles.
Shivers allegedly left the restaurant by the time police arrived, but officials launched an investigation and he was arrested by cops on Thursday, reports TMZ.com.
Shivers' attorney Sandy Passman says, "There is no merit whatsoever in the latest allegations."
The website claims Shivers is being held on $100,000 (£62,500) bail. He has a court date scheduled for 23 April (12).
Shivers insists the sushi restaurant encounter was a coincidence.
The NCIS star has a restraining order in place against her former partner, actor/musician Shivers, and she reportedly called cops last Tuesday night (20Mar12) after allegedly encountering him during a sushi dinner with aspiring actor Thomas Arklie.
Shivers reportedly left the restaurant by the time police arrived, but officials are now investigating whether the restraining order was breached, according to TMZ.com.
The NCIS star, 42, accepted a proposal from her boyfriend, 49-year-old aspiring actor Thomas Arklie, last month (Nov11).
Breaking the news to fans on her Twitter.com blog, she writes, "Me and my Marine are totally engaged now!"
Perrette also posted a photo of the newly-engaged couple online.
She was previously married to actor/musician Coyote Shivers and was engaged to cameraman Michael Bosman before splitting in 2008.
