Phil Collins has ruled out a reunion of the classic Genesis line-up because he can never play the drums again. The Against All Odds hitmaker has hung up his cymbals for good because nerve damage in his elbow means he can no longer keep a strong grip on his sticks.
He is adamant his health means there will never be a comeback for Genesis with him on the drummer's stool and Peter Gabriel singing, and he is also convinced Gabriel would not be interested in performing any tracks the band wrote after he left in 1975.
Collins tells Uncut magazine, "There's this incessant desire for it to happen. But I often think, 'Have people thought it through?' It's not as if you're going to get Peter as singer, me as drummer. I can't play any more, so it's never going to happen. But even if it could, you're not going to get Peter singing I Can't Dance or Invisible Touch or Mama."
Anne Hathaway was left red-faced when she showed up to her Interstellar co-star Matthew Mcconaughey's surprise birthday party a day late. The movie star's wife Camila threw the bash for her man last November (13) at their home, and Hathaway admits she got her dates mixed up.
She tells Access Hollywood, "Very true to Matthew, he said, 'Come on in!' And I said, 'Surprise!' And he said, 'The party was last night'. I just wanted to die and then he said, 'Come on in, let me pour you a drink'.
"We hung out for nine hours. It was awesome. We had such a great night."
Actress Amy Poehler is convinced she "blew" her chance to romance John Stamos when she failed to dress up for a dinner date. The comedienne split from funnyman Will Arnett in 2012 after nine years of marriage and admits she was so out of touch with the dating scene, she had no idea if an invitation to dinner with Full House hunk Stamos was a romantic date or just a meal between co-workers.
She explains, "I remember I was at dinner with John Stamos... I was at a restaurant. We were having dinner and I was like, 'Oh, maybe this is a date!' But I didn't know... But I kinda blew it...
"We worked on a movie (They Came Together). He did a little bit in a movie that I did and a bunch of us hung out. And then later on, he's like, 'Let's go get dinner'. And it was fine.
"I remember thinking like, 'Oh, s**t. Like, if this is really a date...' I think I was wearing a Leslie Knope top (from her character's wardrobe on Parks and Recreation). I think I was wearing a shirt from work."
However, Poehler insists she has no regrets about the failed romantic connection, because she has since found love with actor Nick Kroll.
She tells U.S. shock jock Howard Stern, "I think everything ended up the way it was supposed to end up... I've usually dated people that I have been friends with, and I'm dating someone now. I have a boyfriend whom I've known for a very long time before we started dating, Nick Kroll. I don't really date people I don't know, if that makes any sense."
And Poehler reveals Arnett, the father of her two young sons, approves of her new love.
She adds, "Yeah, they know each other. It's all fine."
Funnyman George Carlin's daughter is adamant the street renamed in his honour on Wednesday (22Oct14) would have "meant so much to him". The Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure star has been commemorated in his native New York City with his own road in Manhattan's Morningside Heights, the neighbourhood where he grew up.
George Carlin Way was unveiled on Wednesday in a ceremony attended by his daughter, Kelly, and a number of comedians including Colin Quinn, Robert Klein, Judah Friedlander and Gilbert Gottfried.
Kelly insists her dad would be thrilled with the newly-renamed West 121st Street, telling U.S. radio station 1010 WINS, "That neighbourhood meant so much to him that he continued to be friends with all the people he grew up with, and hung on corners with and got into trouble with... (He) spoke a lot and often and very fondly about that neighbourhood."
Carlin died of heart failure in 2008, aged 71.
Fleetwood Mac star Christine Mcvie conquered her flying fears once and for all on a trip to Hawaii with bandmate and pal Mick Fleetwood. Panic attacks and her flying phobia prompted McVie to quit the band and retire to the English countryside in the late-1990s, but she has since come to terms with her problems and rejoined the group for a tour, which began in Minnesota on Tuesday night (30Sep14).
And it was a trip to Hawaii with Fleetwood that made her realise she was ready for the rock 'n' roll life again.
She tells CBS News, "I did have a phobia about flying. And I had the phobia when I left Fleetwood Mac. It was a multiple of different reasons that led me to leave - my father had died in England, and I wanted to be close to my own family there. So I bought a house.
"The (Northridge, California) earthquake happened in '94 and I developed a phobia about flying. It was multiple reasons why I thought, 'I've had enough. I wanna go home, and live in the country and get a Range Rover and get the dogs, the wellie (Wellington) boots and the scarf and cook for the YMCA', or whatever.
"I sort of had this misguided idea that that was the life that I wanted... and, to some degree, I enjoyed it for a few years. Moving onto more recent times, I've then gone for therapy, 'cos I found that I couldn't go anywhere except by boat or train... I couldn't really go to anywhere exotic because I was frightened to fly. So I went to a therapist, had that dealt with, and in the end, bought myself a ticket to Maui and called Mick and said, 'I'm gonna come to Maui to visit you'.
"He said, 'You're gonna get on a plane? Oh, my God!' He said, 'I'm coming to England in about 10 days to promote the European leg of Fleetwood Mac's tour... so you stay there. And then I'll come back with you.'
"That's what happened, ultimately. We met up in London and hung out together for a few days. And then I joined him, or he joined me, to go back to Maui. And I got on the plane. And I swear, it was completely effortless. I didn't even think when we took off, you know, I was so busy chatting. We're in the air. And do I care? No. I didn't."
Taylor Swift launched her new album with a secret listening party for fans at her Los Angeles home on Saturday (20Sept14).
Fans took to Twitter.com to express their joy at winning an invitation to the singer's home in a contest via her website. They listened to new record 1989 and hung out with the star for five hours. The I Knew You Were Trouble hitmaker introduced followers to her parents and her pet cat, Olivia Benson, baked pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for her guests, and took Polaroids with her fans.
The pictures, posted on Twitter, show attendees posing with the singer and holding her Grammy award, her cat and books. Swift also gave the fans piles of 1989 merchandise to take home with them, including T-shirts, bags and copies of the album.
Actor Anthony Anderson has become close friends with Prince after the pop superstar attempted to convert him to his Jehovah's Witness faith at a party. The Hustle & Flow star was thrilled to be invited to a bash at the Kiss singer's Los Angeles home many years ago, and couldn't believe his luck when Prince insisted on chatting to him before he left.
Anderson recalls, "He cornered me at the elevator in his house one day, trying to convert me to be a Jehovah's Witness. He was two inches from my face and I made the mistake of looking at him in his eye; Jamie Foxx said, 'Never look him in his eye'.
"He was like, 'Anthony, I hear things are going on in Hollywood with my brothers and sisters. Is everything OK...?' He was like, 'Can I have your number to call you...?' He finally came back and got my number and we've been cool ever since."
But he rarely gets invited to parties and gigs by Prince himself, adding, "He has his people call me... and they're like, 'Prince would like you to come to the party... Prince would like you to come up to the suite for pizza and pasta!' I'm like, 'Alright, it's like 3am...' When Prince summons you to the suite or to the house, you show up.
"I went to Vegas while he had a show in Vegas... a few months ago in New Orleans at the Essence Festival, I went to the show and went backstage and introduced my publicist to him and then hung out with him until about 5.30 in the morning."
Rocker Ryan Adams cut short a recent phone interview with an Australian radio show when the host quizzed him about his marriage to singer/actress Mandy Moore. The Wonderwall singer, who wed Moore in 2009, was promoting his new self-titled album in late August (14) and made it clear he was not interested in opening up about his romantic relationship to the Melbourne-based DJ, politely stating, "I just don't share at all about my private life."
However, when the prying interviewer broached the subject again, Adams hung up.
The incident was documented in a Buzzfeed.com interview, published this week (ends12Sep14), chronicling a conversation between Adams and his management representative Michael Meisel following the call.
During the chat, the singer said, "OK, so I just hung up 'cause I was on the radio getting asked about my wife. I was really nice about it the first time, and I'm sorry, but I won't repeat myself.
"The deal is this: I'm a private person and I'll be a gentleman and say I'm not talking about my marriage ever. I'll never talk about it. Ever."
Adams continued, "I'll talk about rescue cats for a few seconds. But even there I don't want to talk about my pets. If I have children I'm not going to discuss that with anyone ever. I'll suggest it once and then I'm going to hang up."
The star appeared to have had a change of heart after the radio outburst and subsequently sent the Australian radio host a message via Twitter.com, apologising for getting "disconnected".
5 Seconds Of Summer star Ashton Irwin has dismissed rumours he is dating Kim Kardashian's sister Kendall Jenner. The Australian pop star has been linked to the reality TV-star-turned-model in recent weeks after they were spotted hailing a taxi together in New York last month (Aug14).
However, Irwin is adamant there is nothing romantic between him and Jenner, who has previously been linked to fellow boyband star Harry Styles.
He tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "We're not dating. I met her in New York with our team and we just hung out and had a drink. We were walking down the road - there was a whole group of us. And I didn't even get into that taxi."
However, Irwin admits he is attracted to Kim Kardashian's younger half-sister, adding, "Hell yeah, she is very attractive... I'm kind of awkward though, I think the most conversation we had was like, 'Hello, I'm Ashton.'"
Actress Vanessa Hudgens gave a teenage cancer sufferer a prom to remember on Thursday (28Aug14) by making a surprise appearance at his high school dance. The Spring Breakers star decided to stop by the end-of-year bash, thrown by officials at Los Angeles arts charity The Art of Elysium in conjunction with bosses at the local Kaiser Pediatric Oncology centre, after hearing about 17-year-old superfan Cesar's health battle.
An eyewitness tells Eonline.com, "She dressed up, spent most of the night dancing with the kids and took countless photos with fans.
"(Cesar) told me it was the best night of his life."
Hudgens also helped to raise awareness about the art foundation by posting a shot of herself with delighted Cesar on Instagram.com, alongside the caption, "Hung out with @cesarrudyguerrero at his very own prom thanks to the amazing work of @theartofelysium #artheals (sic)".
