Actor Idris Elba is set to make his film directorial debut on a new movie based on the music of R&B singer K. Michelle. The V.S.O.P. hitmaker released her debut album, Rebellious Soul, last year (13), and now she has transformed the record into a musical, with the Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom star set to helm the project.
During a recent interview on Chicago's WGCI Morning Riot show, K. Michelle revealed, "My album, Rebellious Soul, we turned it into a musical and Idris Elba is the director.
"I took every song on Rebellious Soul and turned it into a conversation and flipped it... I turned the whole album around, Idris heard it. Loved it. And we decided to team up on it.
"I didn't want to make it this celebrity thing. Me and him decided we really wanted it to be focused on the story and fun and laugh and cry. People have been talking to me about a lot of acting roles, but this will be my first time (acting) on the screen."
K. Michelle says the movie will air on America's VH1 network, which is also the home to reality TV series Love & Hip Hop, on which she stars.
Elba stepped behind the camera last year (13) to direct The Pavement Psychologist, a one-off drama as part of Sky TV's Playhouse Presents series.
French police officials have confirmed Kate Barry, the fashion photographer daughter of singer/actress Jane Birkin and late Bond theme composer John Barry, died after falling from the balcony of her apartment in Paris on Wednesday (11Dec13) Detectives are currently investigating the tragedy after Barry's body was found on the pavement outside the apartment block, where she lived on the fourth floor.
Reports suggest she may have taken her own life.
Barry, who was actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon's half-sister, was raised by Birkin's lover Serge Gainsbourg after her parents split the year she was born (67).
The 46 year old leaves behind a son, Roman de Kermadec, who is 26.
Barry's work appeared in British Vogue magazine and the Sunday Times, among other publications.
Tom Cruise will introduce his Tropic Thunder co-star Ben Stiller when the funnyman adds his hand and footprints to the pavement outside Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre next month (Dec13). Cruise received the hand and footprint honour in 1992.
Singer/actress Jennifer Hudson had to be asked to move along by police last week (13Nov13) after staging an hours-long gospel celebration on her Hollywood Walk of Fame star shortly after the unveiling ceremony. The Dreamgirls star was presented with the pavement plaque on 13 November (13) and she reveals she took her family back to the sidewalk spot that evening to gaze at the honour.
The get together quickly became a church-style event as family and friends joined the Oscar winner for a few hymns and spirituals.
The impromptu gathering, which lasted into the early hours, attracted strange stares from cops patrolling the area - and they eventually managed to convince the group to head home.
She says, "It was so fun. I tried to fly my whole, entire family to the ceremony so I had everybody with me, and it's just such an amazing honour...
"I ended up back at the star (afterwards)... I had to go make sure it was still there...! Like, this is really real. I took my whole family and we ended up having church (sic) on the star, singing. We stayed out there until like, two in the morning until the police removed us! We prayed and we sang... Well they (police) didn't kick us out, but they was (sic) about to by the third time they came around!"
Hudson was joined by her fiance, David Otunga, their four-year-old son David Daniel Otunga, Jr., music mentor Clive Davis, R&B star Raphael Saadiq and songwriter Diane Warren at the ceremony, where she paid an emotional tribute to her late mother, Darnell Donnerson, who was murdered in 2008 by the singer's estranged brother-in-law.
Funk and hip-hop stars Outkast are in talks to return to the stage after a long hiatus to headline next year's (14) Coachella festival, according to U.S. reports. Sources tell Billboard.com that Andre 3000 and Big Boi are close to reuniting for the California desert event next April (14).
The duo has been on hiatus since 2007 following the release of their Idlewild film soundtrack.
Coachella has become famous for landing reunited headliners - the Pixies, Pavement and Rage Against the Machine all reformed for shows there, while the Stone Roses and Blur headlined this year's (13) event.
Alec Baldwin has clashed with members of the paparazzi once more after allegedly pushing one photographer into a car outside his New York apartment building. The actor was caught on tape growing annoyed with one particular snapper waiting on the pavement as he left his home on Friday morning (15Nov13).
Video footage obtained by TMZ.com shows Baldwin approaching the paparazzo and appearing to shove him against a parked vehicle. As the former 30 Rock star walked off, the unidentified man shouts after him, "You just grabbed me! You just grabbed me!", prompting Baldwin to step up to the photographer again, allegedly smacking the small camera out of his hands.
The snapper then chases after Baldwin, telling him, "You just shoved me into a car!", with the actor responding, "Get out my face... You're assaulting me... Who's chasing who down the block now...? You take a walk... you don't wanna get hurt, do ya (sic)?"
The 55 year old's latest run-in with the paparazzi occurred just a day after he raged at another Big Apple snapper for coming too close to his wife Hilaria and their baby daughter, hours after Canadian actress Genevieve Sabourin was convicted and jailed for stalking his family.
Baldwin was also previously involved in an altercation with a shutterbug in August (13), and he was accused of hitting another Big Apple photographer in 2012.
British socialite Peaches Geldof became embroiled in a heated Twitter.com feud with a controversial commentator on Tuesday (12Nov13), hours before they were due to debate parenting techniques on a TV show. Katie Hopkins sparked the war of words after posting a photo of Bob Geldof's daughter from last year (12), when she accidentally pushed her 18-month-old son Astala's stroller into a pothole after failing to see a crack in the footpath while holding her cell phone.
In the accompanying caption, Hopkins wrote, "peaches believes in attachment parenting. Attached to a phone that is."
The criticism prompted an angry response from Geldof, who hit back at the embarrassing shot in a number of heated posts hours before the pair was due to go head-to-head to discuss parenting skills on British talk show This Morning on Tuesday (12Nov13).
Responding to Hopkins' tweet, she wrote, "I don't even want to reply to Katie Hopkins (sic) desperate, incessant tweeting because it feeds her insatiable lust for recognition. However her posting low blows like a picture of my son falling from his pram (stroller) when I tripped over a crack in a pavement has warranted at least a few responses from me...
"This is the woman who hates women, ethnic minorities, anyone with less money, anyone who dares point out the glaringly obvious.... I wouldn't be surprised if she had a shrivelled old pair of balls under that 1980s... tweed skirt of hers. All the better to castrate her with. what we need to ask ourselves is why we even allow her to have a platform."
The pair continued to clash on This Morning as Hopkins challenged Geldof over her parenting techniques, with the star accusing her of being a terrible role model for her own children.
After the showdown, Geldof tweeted: "Well... That was easy. Think I know who won that one. Hopkins was literally SHAKING when I shook her hand afterwards.
"Think I just said to Katie Hopkins live on This Morning what the whole of Britain wants to say to her. YOU LOSE, sucka!!!!"
Actress Emma Thompson cemented her place in Hollywood on Thursday (07Nov13) when she added her hand and shoe prints to the fabled pavement outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The Oscar winner was overcome with emotion at the ceremony, recalling a childhood visit to the tourist attraction with her father.
She said, "When I was 14 I came to Hollywood with my dad, who was directing the Norman Conquests, and he brought us here, to the Grauman's, and showed us all the people's hands and feet and the signatures and it was so other-worldly that for me to be here now feels not at all real!"
The 54 year old was joined by her Saving Mr. Banks co-star Tom Hanks at the ceremony and he used the occasion to jokingly try and convince Thompson to give up her British citizenship and become an American.
He quipped, "We wish to convey the following message to Emma - Please Emma, leave England, come here, live with us, live amongst us! Los Angeles and Hollywood needs your Sense and Sensibility. England, they don't appreciate you like we do."
The ceremony didn't go completely to plan - Thompson took a tumble from an elevated box just as she was about to place her hands in the wet cement, but laughed off the moment and continued chuckling as she was immortalised outside the iconic cinema on Hollywood Boulevard.
And she was more than a little upset about the fact she would have to throw away the designer black shoes she wore to the ceremony, explaining, "They were covered in cement."
Pamela Anderson is already making plans to tackle the New York Marathon again next year (14), despite the fact her first big race on Sunday (03Nov13) left her in agony. The former Baywatch beauty hit the pavement and took part in the a 26.2-mile (42.16-kilometre) challenge to raise money for charity, but admits she crossed the finish line in excruciating pain.
Returning to The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday (07Nov13) with her medal, the model and actress confessed the last five miles of the marathon was like giving birth.
She told the host, who had previously doubted her chances of completing the marathon, "It was like giving birth and then being told to run as you're giving birth. It was so much pain. My hips! I don't know if women are meant to run, especially after having kids."
But, despite the pain, the mother of two, who completed the race in five hours and 41 minutes, is determined to run again in 2014, when she'll be joined by her oldest son, Brandon.
We might still have to wait until January to reunite with Sherlock and Watson, but at least now we have the first still from season three of Sherlock to gaze at. Knowing that its fans couldn't be kept at bay for much longer, BBC One took to Twitter and Facebook to reveal the first official photo from the upcoming season of the fan-favorite sleuth show.
The picture features Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) solemnly looking through a window at his forlorn sidekick Watson (Martin Freeman), and comes with a quote from creator Steven Moffat: "It's been a long time since Sherlock Holmes [spoiler] jumped off that roof - it's time to reveal the truth about what happened between him and the pavement." While there's not too much that we can infer from the photo -- although we're guessing that it's set before Watson finds out that Sherlock is still alive -- we're hopeful that the first episode will give us the answers to all of the questions that we've been waiting over a year for.
BBC One even tweeted out three of the questions it knows we all have:
How did he do it? #Sherlock
— BBC One (@BBCOne) November 5, 2013
And how will John take the news that his best friend faked his own death? #Sherlock
— BBC One (@BBCOne) November 5, 2013
What will #Sherlock think when he finds out John has fallen in love with Mary Morstan?
— BBC One (@BBCOne) November 5, 2013
And here are our responses to these questions:
1. We don't know how he did it, and it's driving us nuts! That's why we desperately need Sherlock to come back into our lives.2. Watson totally isn't going to take it well. There comes a point when he can no longer be the trusty sidekick who simply goes with the flow. When your best friend fakes his own death, you better believe there are going to be some trust issues.3. Yeah, Sherlock doesn't really normal human emotions, so chances are, he's not going to take a liking to Watson's new love interest.
Season three of Sherlock will premiere on Jan. 19 at 10 PM on PBS. But you can catch Cumberbatch and Freeman in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which hits theaters Dec. 13.
