Rocker John Mellencamp has sparked rumours of a reunion with actress Meg Ryan after they were spotted together in New York on Wednesday (15Oct14). The couple parted ways in August (14) after more than three years together, but it appears the stars are now keen to give their relationship another chance.
Mellencamp, who lives in Indiana, has been open about his feelings for the When Harry Met Sally star in recent weeks and admitted last month (Sep14) he would not rule out rekindling the romance.
He told U.S. shock jock Howard Stern, "Meg is an angel. She was just an angel sent to me at the right time. We tried to have a relationship for three years - long distance. We'll see what happens."
Mellencamp, 63, previously revealed to Rolling Stone that he had no intention of moving to the Big Apple to be closer to Ryan, admitting, "I'm too sensitive to live there (in New York). I can't see poor people. I can't see the suffering. I can't see the trash on the streets. I'm not leaving Indiana. I'm going to die here."
A representative for Josh Brolin has dismissed reports suggesting the actor's brother is homeless. Rumours about Jess Brolin's alleged vagrant life appeared in The Mirror newspaper over the weekend (11-12Oct14), alongside a photograph of him appearing to retrieve a bottle from a trash can.
The accompanying speculation suggested the True Grit star's brother was so poor he had to dig in dumpsters for food.
But a rep for the Brolin family says, "Contrary to what has been erroneously reported, Jess is gainfully employed and supports himself.
"If Jess were ever in need of support or any assistance, there would never be a question his family and friends would be there for him under all and any circumstance."
A family source tells the New York Daily News Brolin was actually removing a bottle he had mistakenly thrown out when he was photographed.
Rocker John Mellencamp is refusing to rule out a reunion with actress Meg Ryan after recently ending their three-year romance. The couple quietly began dating in 2010, but it emerged the pair had since called time on its relationship last month (Aug14).
Mellencamp, who lives in Indiana, has now opened up about the split, revealing the long-distance romance proved to be too much of a challenge.
However, the musician admits he still thinks highly of Ryan, who is based in New York.
During an interview with U.S. shock jock Howard Stern, he said, "Meg is an angel. She was just an angel sent to me at the right time. We tried to have a relationship for three years - long distance. We'll see what happens."
The 62 year old then joked about what he's looking for in his next girlfriend, quipping, "I need, like, a nursemaid - a wet maid or something!"
Mellencamp previously revealed to Rolling Stone that he had no intention of moving to the Big Apple to be closer to Ryan, admitting, "I'm too sensitive to live there (in New York). I can't see poor people. I can't see the suffering. I can't see the trash on the streets. I'm not leaving Indiana. I'm going to die here."
Billy Joel joined volunteers picking up trash for the New York State Beach Clean Up on Saturday (20Sep14). The Piano Man hitmaker and New York Governor Andrew Cumo were among those who spent hours removing garbage from a beach on Long Island as part of the annual clean-up drive.
Joel was pictured carrying black trash bags out of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay.
Actress Anna Kendrick once threw a pair of diamond earrings in the trash after an obsessed fan tracked down her address and sent her the pricey gift in the mail.
The Pitch Perfect star warns devotees she has a strict rule about presents delivered to her private residence - and she won't hesitate to discard them, no matter how expensive and lavish the gifts are.
During an interview with U.S. podcast host Marc Maron, she explains, "I got (a gift) with, like, a really long letter about how he really felt like we should be together, and if I would just give him a chance, and he didn't want to do it over social media because he thought that would pressure me because it was public... "He (wanted) to be a gentleman. And he, uh, sent me a pair of diamond earrings. For real diamond earrings. I did go and check. And I was just like, 'These have to go into the trash. I can't. I cannot. I cannot wear them. I can't give them to someone.' "It's too weird. If the teddy bear goes in the trash, these go in the trash. Just on principle. So, I had to throw them away. If you send something to my house, it's going in the trash."
U.S. funnyman Conan O'brien blamed marijuana-puffing rapper Wiz Khalifa for a fire drama on his set on Tuesday (09Sep14), telling audience members that the alert that brought his late-night show to a brief halt was sparked by a "small fire" in a trash can in the hip-hop star's dressing room. Khalifa, who was the show's musical guest, brought more drama when he later performed by wearing a T-shirt featuring a photo of O.J. Simpson and the words 'EXTRA NOT GUILTY'. Incarcerated Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his wife and her friend Ron Goldman 20 years ago.
Actress Dame Helen Mirren wants to try her hand at fashion design by making bath robes and frocks out of trash bags. The Oscar winner is a keen fan of sewing and often makes clothes for her family, and now she wants to put her homely skills to good use after fashioning a robe.
She tells British magazine Notebook, "I do dressmaking. I've got my mother's old sewing machine, which I love. I make horrible things that are awful - although I did make my sister a good skirt, she liked her skirt.
"I made myself a nice dressing gown for (backstage at) the theatre too. Maybe I should have a dressing gown line, there are not enough nice dressing gowns in the world...
"I did want to (make my own dress for red carpet events) but my husband stopped me. He said, 'I am saving you from yourself', but I'm still going to do it one of these days. I am going to make a red carpet dress out of bin bags. It will be beautiful... Bin bags and duct tape."
Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp have reportedly split after three years of dating. The actress and rocker quietly began dating in 2010, but they have recently called it quits due to their cross-country relationship, according to People magazine.
An insider tells the publication, "It was the distance. She lives in New York and he resides in Indiana. It was the long distance that ultimately was the cause (of the split)."
Mellencamp previously revealed to Rolling Stone that he had no intention of moving to the Big Apple to be closer to Ryan, admitting, "I'm too sensitive to live there (in New York). I can't see poor people. I can't see the suffering. I can't see the trash on the streets.

New Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi owned a huge haul of rarities from the show when he was a teenage fan but he threw them out with the trash to pursue a life of hard partying. The Scottish actor, whose first full episode as the Time Lord is due to air in the U.K. and U.S. on Saturday (23Aug14), was a huge fan of the sci-fi hit when he was growing up.
He amassed an impressive collection of autographs, photos and books, but he ditched the lot when he hit 18 and began drinking in bars.
Capaldi tells British magazine Radar, "I was totally geeky. But when you reach the age of 17 or 18, you move on and discover sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll. I'm ashamed to say I had a kind of bonfire of the vanities. I had a huge collection of Doctor Who books, autographs and pictures, but I threw them all away to go and drink lager and eat curries. That was silly, wasn't it? I wish I'd known that one day the geek would inherit the Earth."
