Sharon Stone and Hilary Swank were among the Hollywood stars who flew to India to raise money for AIDS research at a glittering gala in Mumbai on Sunday night (17Nov13). Basic Instinct star Stone mixed with the Bollywood elite by co-hosting the amfAR India gala at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel with superstar Abhishek Bachchan and his actress wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Speaking before the event, Stone revealed her involvement came about after a meeting with Rai Bachchan in Cannes, France, saying, "It is very kind of Aishwarya and Abhishek to support this cause. It all started in Cannes two years ago when she came up to me. It's wonderful to be here with her. More people should come forward to lend a helping hand."
Rai Bachchan adds, "This is (the) first event of amfAR in India and I am confident we will have several more to come in our country. I hope we all collectively raise funds, spread awareness and strengthen the force."
The event, which raised money for The American Foundation for AIDS Research, also featured a performance from pop star Ke$ha, a charity auction, and a fashion show by some of India's top designers.
Singer Ke$Ha will headline the amfaR fundraiser at Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace on 17 November (13). The event, which will raise money for the fight against AIDS, will be hosted by Sharon Stone, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.
Bollywood movie Barfi swept the board at the 14th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards on Saturday (06Jul13) after scoring a total of 12 honours. The romantic comedy picked up Best Film, Best Story and Best Screenplay, while Anurag Basu was crowned Best Director and the film's stars Ranbir Kapoor and Vidya Balan earned the Best Actor and Best Female Actor prizes, respectively.
It also won Best Musical Director for Pritam, in addition to a slew of technical titles.

The IIFA Awards, which is touted as the Indian version of the Oscars, was held in Macau, China as officials celebrated 100 years of Indian cinema and was hosted by Khan and Shahid Kapur. Performances on the night came from stars including Deepika Padukone, Madhuri Dixit and Prabhu Deva.
Madonna is helping to spread the message of female empowerment by joining Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez on the bill for a charity concert in London this weekend (01Jun13). The Material Girl will serve as a presenter at the Sound of Change Live mega gig, which will be headlined by the Crazy In Love superstar and feature performances by Lopez, Florence + the Machine, Ellie Goulding, John Legend and Timbaland, among others.

The Indian icon, dubbed Bollywood's first superstar, passed away on Wednesday (18Jul12) at his home in the city following a bout of ill health. He was 69.
His funeral procession began the day after his death, in accordance with his Hindu religion, and hordes of mourning devotees took to the streets around his property to throw flowers as his body passed by in a glass coffin carried in an open truck.

Dance music star Moby also went on Twitter to share his sympathies, writing, "I just read about the tragic earthquake in India. I'm terribly sorry for the people who are suffering."
