On this 237th birthday of our dear country America, we all band together in our patriotism. Yes, we do have quite the uniting country indeed... despite it being split up into 50 states, all of which vehemently hate the other 49 (especially Jersey).
But as brethren of the same land, we must find common ground. We must find something to appreciate each of the states from which we do not hail. The best way to do that: Movies. Hollywood.com has taken a look at every corner of our land of the free and pinpointed the big screen feature that best exemplifies each of the 50 states. Fun Size may be the only production from kid-centric studio Nickelodeon to also feature underage drinking (complete with red solo cups) and boob groping. The murky demographic for the movie ends up hurting the well-intentioned Halloween flick — it's not quite suitable for the young ones nor is it funny or wild enough for the Gossip Girl crowd which director Josh Schwartz (creator of the show) knows well. Instead we get a floundering trick or treat adventure that reduces the colorful twisted holiday to a meandering situational comedy.
Nick TV grad Victoria Justice (Victorious) stars as Wren a high school "geek" who finds herself unable to bag the guy of her dreams (who adores her) but finds a glimmer of hope in the big cool kids' Halloween party. Ready for a night out with her best friend April (Jane Levy) Wren thinks life is finally going her way until her Mom (Chelsea Handler) sticks her with her troublemaking little brother Albert (Jackson Nicoll) for the night. If chaperoning Albert wasn't already the worst thing in the world Wren finds herself in an even bigger dilemma when her brother wanders off into his own night of mischievous debauchery.
The "one crazy night" formula fits perfectly with Halloween but Fun Size struggles to find interesting material for its eclectic ensemble. Unlike many of the young actresses who have previously collaborated with Schwartz Justice seems unable to crack his voice and comedic style. She's too hip to too aware to play someone struggling with high school. The material doesn't serve her or Levy either; off-color jokes and a bizarre sense of entitlement turn them into two people you don't want to see succeed. Luckily for the audience during their sweeping search for Albert Wren and April cross paths with two true nerd-looking boys: Roosevelt (Thomas Mann) and Peng (Osric Chau) who along with feeling like real teenagers actually land a joke or two.
Interwoven into this speedy adventure — Fun Size clocks in at a little over 75 minutes giving little time to flesh out our teenage heroes — is Albert's encounter with a convenience store clerk named Fuzzy. The adults of Fun Size see the ten-year-old Albert as a parter-in-crime rather than a lost little boy. Fuzzy recruits him for a raid on his ex-girlfriend's house; after running away he meets a lady who brings him to a nightclub. At one point a sleazebag kidnaps Albert and locks him in his bedroom. If Fun Size were madcap it may all make sense. Instead things just happen — and it's not hilarious scary or even deranged.
Nick's '90s sitcom Pete & Pete created an amazing sense of weirdness and heart in its exploits of two teenage brothers. Anyone could watch and enjoy it. Fun Size has a beautiful look (the colors of Halloween are mesmerizing) and Schwartz as always has impeccable soundtrack tastes but when it comes to telling a story that feels both relatable and wonderfully weird — what Pete & Pete did so well — the movie falls flat. It's stereotype humor (the movie packs many a fat and gay joke) doesn't cut it — when paired to Nick's best efforts the movie lives up to the title: a bite-size portion of a bigger better cinematic sweet.
Saturday was a big day for the TV world as the 2012 Creative Emmys took place. Hollywood.com was both backstage and on the carpet, bringing you the scoop direct from the source. HBO and its epic hit Game of Thrones were the night's biggest winners, with the network taking home 17 statues — six of them for GoT. CBS wasn't far behind with 13 wins, followed by PBS with 11. Frozen Planet, Great Expectations, and Saturday Night Live each took home four awards, resulting in a three-way-tie for second place after Game of Thrones. See below for the list of winners:

A judge has ruled that Courtney Love won't have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation in the ongoing legal dispute with the Nirvana bandmates of her late husband, Kurt Cobain, The Associated Press reports. Last May, Love asked that Nirvana LLC, the business partnership she formed with Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl in 1997, be dissolved on the grounds that she signed the agreement at a time when her judgment had been impaired. The judge commented that granting the request for a psychiatric evaluation would "serve no other purpose than to contribute to a circus-like atmosphere" to the legal proceedings, but added that if Love tries to claim she was incapacitated again, the issue of a mental examination could be revisited.
The latest Madonna buzz is that she will indeed make a cameo appearance in the new James Bond film. According to Ananova.com, director Lee Tamahori told Entertainment Tonight that Madonna will spend two days filming the cameo role in Die Another Day, wearing an outfit specially designed for her.
Diet guru Dr. Robert Atkins, who promotes a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet, is recovering from a cardiac arrest he suffered at his Manhattan home on April 18, which he said is not related to diet. A spokeswoman for Atkins, 71, issued a statement saying: "This was not a heart attack but a cardiac arrest related to an infection of the heart he has been suffering from for a few years, " the AP reports.
Following ABC's two-hour finale of the reality series The Bachelor yesterday, Alex Michel is still single. Of the 25 women who competed for a chance to marry the bachelor, Michel chose Amanda Marsh, but he asked the 23-year-old event planner to first move to California to live with him before they walked down the aisle. She said yes.
HBO is developing a reality series tentatively dubbed General Manager for summer 2003. The series, a cross between Bull Durham and The Real World, would allow viewers to track the progress of a minor league baseball team, and then control its destiny through the Internet, Variety reports.
The editors at TV Guide have selected Seinfeld as the greatest television show of all time, the AP reports. Shows included in the top 10 on the magazine's list of the top 50 television shows are All in the Family, The Sopranos, The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live.
In her talk show's final farewell, Sally Jessy Raphael smashed her trademark red-framed glasses but didn't shed a tear, the AP reports. "They belong to the [production] company," she explained later about the glasses. The show was canceled after it sank to ninth in the ratings among talk shows.
Henry Winkler, better known as the Fonz from Happy Days, will executively produce Hollywood Squares alongside Michael Levitt, Reuters reports. They will replace John Moffit and Pat Lee Tourk, who were let go after Whoopi Goldberg revealed she was leaving the show's center square.
Dr. Dre has been named as one of the defendants in a lawsuit filed by five former and current Detroit, Mich., city officials, claiming their privacy was invaded. According to the AP, the lawsuit alleges that hidden cameras and microphones were secretly used to "intercept, eavesdrop upon and record" exchanges between city officials and Up In Smoke tour organizers. Also named in the suit are Magic Johnson, AOL Time Warner, Best Buy and Panavision.
Looks like White Zombie rocker Rob Zombie will finally get his day in court. Two years ago, Zombie filed a copyright lawsuit against Mazda Motor Corp. for using music from his 1998 album Hellbilly Deluxe for a television truck commercial without his permission.
