Pregnant actress Alyssa Milano is willing her beloved Los Angeles Kings ice hockey team to victory in the Stanley Cup with a shrine she has set up in her home. The Kings will meet the New York Rangers in the finals, which begin on Wednesday night (04Jun14), and Milano is hoping her prayers will be answered when her team lifts the cup again.
And to give the players a spiritual boost, the star has gathered her Kings collectibles and lit a candle in a special corner of her home.
Her memorabilia includes a signed photo of the Kings announcer Bob Miller, an Andre Kopitar stressball and bobblehead, a Luc Robitaille rookie card and a Wayne Gretzky doll.
She showed off a photo of her shrine during an appearance on U.S. show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday (03Jun14), revealing she makes cash offerings to the "hockey Gods".
The superstitious sports fan also makes her husband wear certain clothing items for games, explaining, "He has to wear a specific sweatshirt and hat. I make him wear it."
Robin Thicke's TV star dad is heading back to the small screen to front a new U.S. reality series. Growing Pains star Alan Thicke has signed up to allow TVGN cameras follow him and his wife Tanya as they attempt to balance business and parenting in Unusually Thicke.
Singer Robin is not expected to be a regular on the show, but he will appear in at least one episode.
The series will also feature the Blurred Lines singer's teenage brother Carter, while David Hasselhoff, John Stamos, Tom Green and sports stars Magic Johnson and Wayne Gretzky are expected to make cameo appearances.
Announcing the new show, which will debut in America next month (Apr14), Thicke says, "Unusually Thicke combines my two favourite things: family... and laughing at my family.
"This series is my foray into the reality-ish television world where viewers will meet the lovable, unpredictable, and often challenging people who live with the real Jason Seaver (Growing Pains character). We take our relatable real-life stories and blow them up to amuse and amaze, tossing in a handful of celebrity friends along the way."
Perry plays a fictional sports broadcaster struggling to cope after the death of his wife on the hit U.S. show, and he's building a wish list of athletes he'd like for cameos.
He tells WENN, "We have asked (ice hockey icon) Wayne Gretzky; I'd love to have him on the show at some point. We've talked to David Beckham and he said that he would do it, so that was very exciting.
"My favourite athlete of all time is (tennis ace) Jimmy Connors, so, I guess my hope is that we get Jimmy Connors to come back and work with me again, which would be a dream come true."
Connors played himself in Perry's last TV sitcom, Mr. Sunshine.
Actress Janet Jones’s hockey star husband Wayne Gretzy has denied any involvement in the betting scandal that has implicated his wife.
Jones has been indicted for placing bets of at least $100,000 with a sports gambling ring.
Gretzky, who is the head coach of the Phoenix (Arizona) Coyotes hockey team, is attempting to distance himself from the scandal.
Spokesman Elliott Mintz maintains, "Janet is merely one of a number of witnesses, and there is no allegation whatsoever that Janet has violated any law."
