Actor Alec Baldwin grew emotional in court on Tuesday (12Nov13) after coming face-to-face with his accused stalker as he testified about the "nightmarish" harassment he has suffered since 2010. French Canadian actress Genevieve Sabourin stands accused of bombarding the 55 year old with emails and voicemails, and making unwelcome visits to his New York homes after they enjoyed dinner together in 2010.
The former 30 Rock star maintained in Manhattan Criminal Court that the meal was purely business, claiming he gave her career advice as a favour to his friend, Scarface producer Martin Bregman, who had been romantically involved with Sabourin.
However, he began fearing for his family's safety when Sabourin showed up on his doorstep on multiple occasions, and even turned up in the Hamptons on the day he proposed to his now-wife, Hilaria, in April, 2012.
Fighting back tears, he recalled, "I ran to tell my wife not to go near the door because I wasn't sure if she had a gun or a weapon or where we were at this point, and then I called the East Hampton police."
Baldwin insisted he never had a sexual or romantic relationship with Sabourin and described the alleged harassment as "nightmarish".
His denials prompted a number of outbursts from Sabourin, who repeatedly interrupted Baldwin's testimony and even shouted out, "You're lying", as the judge threatened to hold her in contempt of court. She was subsequently bundled out of the courtroom by her lawyer, Todd Spodek.
In hearings last week (ends08Nov13), prosecutors shared a number of emails Sabourin had reportedly sent to Baldwin, including one in which she expressed her desire to conceive a "mini Baldwin" on St. Patrick's Day in 2012.
Spodek claims his client only contacted Baldwin seeking closure for their "crumbling" romance.
New mum Hilaria Baldwin is also expected to testify in the case.
Performance artist Laurie Anderson has broken her silence following the death of her husband Lou Reed at the weekend (27Oct13) in a heartfelt open letter to the couple's Springs, New York neighbours. The O Superman hitmaker, who was with the rocker when he lost his battle with liver disease at their home on Sunday, reveals Reed spent his final days marvelling at nature as summer turned to autumn in their rural New York town.
She writes, "To our neighbors: What a beautiful fall! Everything shimmering and golden and all that incredible soft light. Water surrounding us. Lou and I have spent a lot of time here in the past few years, and even though we're city people this is our spiritual home."
In the letter that has been published in the East Hampton Star newspaper, Anderson also explains she promised her husband she would take him home from hospital after doctors told him there was nothing else they could do for him following a liver transplant earlier this year (13).
She adds, "Last week I promised Lou to get him out of the hospital and come home to Springs. And we made it! Lou was a tai chi master and spent his last days here being happy and dazzled by the beauty and power and softness of nature. He died on Sunday morning looking at the trees and doing the famous 21 form of tai chi with just his musician hands moving through the air."
She closes by stating, "Lou was a prince and a fighter and I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life. Long live the beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us."

Did you know that some of your favorite celebrities have interests that are somewhat and/or completely unrelated to their careers? Shocking, we know. But they do! Producer Swizz Beatz likes to paint, Matt Damon is involved in clean water projects, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt has one of the coolest websites/online open collaborative production companies ever.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, HitRecord
First of all, everything JGL does is pretty awesome. So when he got the brilliant idea to start a production company that literally anyone in the world can join, we should have known it would take off. HitRecord is a website where artists, writers, musicians, and anyone who has any kind of talent that they've parlayed into a project can submit their work. If the big man (who goes by 'Regular Joe' on the site) likes what he sees, you can get hired as a freelance worker and paid for your work. And if you just like to be around art and other artists, this website is one hell of a place to hang out.
Zooey Deschanel, Hello Giggles
Zooey Deschanel and her two best friends (Molly McAleer and Sophia Rossi) have a blog and it is as adorable and fun as you think it is. With a focus on women, they post about everything from DIY nail art to creative writing tips, to social issues. A lot of it is cutesy, but much of it deals with heavier issues, including the Malala Yousafzai story.
Jay Z, Life + Times
When we visit Jay Z's Life + Times website it kinda feels like we're hanging out with Hova himself. The site (which features lots of great work from writer, hip-hop critic, activist, and Jay Z's good friend dream hampton) specializes in sharing sports news, art news, fashion news, and of course music-related stuff. It's all very NYC...in fact, there's even a recent article on the Chelsea Market Cookbook.
Charlize Theron, Africa Outreach Project
Lots of celebrities do lots of great charity work, but Charlize Theron is legitimately and completely involved in this project. The Oscar-winning actress is very hands-on in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa and in her native South Africa. We love that Charlize actively tweets updates about her project, and continuously promotes the work she and the folks in her organization are doing.

Actress Shanola Hampton is pregnant with her first child. The 36 year old, who stars in the U.S. version of TV drama Shameless, and her producer husband Daren Dukes will welcome their baby in January (14).
A statement issued to People.com reads: "We are beyond excited to expand our family and begin this new chapter. Words can’t describe the joy our hearts feel."
The couple has been married for 13 years.
Liza Minnelli is set to perform with her half-sister Lorna Luft for the first time in 20 years at two upcoming cancer charity fundraisers. Judy Garland's daughters have not appeared onstage together since they duetted at the 1993 Tony Awards, but the singers will reunite for fans at two New York gigs next month (Oct13) to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
The Nothing Like a Dame: Lorna's Pink Party events will take place at the Birdland jazz club on 14 and 21 October (13), and will also feature singers Phyllis Newman and Ann Hampton Callaway, theatre stars Nick Adams and Jim Caruso, and actress Marcia Strassman.
The cause is particularly close to Luft's heart because she was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year (13).
Luft says, "This event means the world to me. I'm so grateful to be feeling so well and performing again. These two Birdland nights are the perfect opportunity for me to gather some friends - including my sister - to raise money to help two essential organisations."
Proceeds will benefit the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative and the Dr. Philomena McAndrew Fund of Tower Cancer Research Foundation.
Gwyneth Paltrow has been criticised by a fellow author who insists she was shut out of her own book signing session by the actress' heavy-handed bodyguards. Christina Oxenberg was among the writers assigned tables in alphabetical order in a tent at the East Hampton Library's Authors Night event in New York on Sunday (11Aug13) and she was seated next to Paltrow, who was signing copies of her latest cook book.
Oxenberg moved away for a break after Paltrow's fans began queuing in front of her, but claims she was blocked from re-entering by the Iron Man star's bodyguards - so she had to crawl underneath her table.
The writer was so annoyed, she began eating smelly burgers right next to the clean-living star, who famously doesn't eat red meat.
In a post on her blog, Oxenberg writes, "Due to the inflexibility of the alphabet I had the questionable good fortune to be seated directly beside Gwyneth Paltrow... The divinity in question arrived with hubby, children and a couple of massive bodyguards. The worshippers blocked my view of the whole world, abusing my tiny territory upon which to abandon their trash or lean their sorry a**es.
"So I abandoned my post and took that opportunity to roam the great tent and greet my fellow authors. Which is when I saw the food table, and suddenly I knew what needed doing. I made a plate of miniature sloppy hamburgers, stinky steak sandwiches, and the like and hauled it back to my piece of table.
"Gwyneth's bodyguards blocked my re-entry despite my assurance I was a just an author and pointing at my name tag, 'No!' they growled, body blocking me. So I was forced to crawl under the table. And there I sat with my meat products, wafting the excellent smells toward my sleek vegan neighbor. She ignored the siren smells of protein. We never did say hello, although I did try to sell my book to her sleek vegan children. No bites."
Hollywood stars including Jack Nicholson and Owen Wilson turned out alongside the cream of the music world from Sir Paul McCartney to Jon Bon Jovi to honour music mogul Clive Davis in New York over the weekend (10-11Aug13). Davis made a rare trip to the Hamptons on Saturday (10Aug13) to sign copes of his memoir The Soundtrack of My Life at the East Hampton Library's Author's Night, and he was later treated to a glittering party.
The bash was held in his honour at the home of art dealer Larry Gagosian, and the cream of Hollywood turned out. Jack Nicholson was an unexpected guest, along with Owen Wilson, Anjelica Huston and Chevy Chase, while McCartney, Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and Jimmy Buffett were also in attendance.
Davis' sons and grandsons were also there to honour the music mogul.
An intruder has been arrested at Sean 'Diddy' Combs' New York home after a man was reportedly spotted lounging by the rapper's swimming pool. Quamine Taylor was detained by police in East Hampton, Long Island on Friday (02Aug13) after neighbours reported seeing someone lurking close to the hip-hop star's house.
Taylor was taken into custody by officers of the East Hampton Town police and released later that day with a desk appearance ticket (DAT) ordering him to appear in court later this month (Aug13), according to Easthamptonstar.com.
The New York Post reports the intruder was "primed to lounge poolside" before cops swooped.
Taylor previously found himself in trouble with the law last year (12) after he gained entry to the house by posing as a friend of Combs and spent a day drinking the rapper's alcohol and sleeping in his bed.
Calvin Klein's on/off boyfriend Nick Gruber has been questioned by police over allegations he was involved in a nightclub brawl last month (Jul13). The model was reportedly caught up in a clash with a fellow reveller at a bar in the Hamptons, New York on 20 July (13) and he was contacted by police last week (ends04Aug13) and asked to answer questions about the incident.
He attended East Hampton Police Station on Friday (02Aug13) and spoke to cops about what happened. He was not arrested.
Matt Rich, a spokesman for Gruber, tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "Police... called me on Wednesday to say they wanted to interview Nick. He voluntarily... spoke with the police for an hour, it was a friendly conversation, and he was not arrested... He fully cooperated with all aspects of routine processing. He was given a desk appearance ticket to come back to tell his story with his witnesses on September 26... Of course he'll continue to cooperate fully."
Reports suggested another reveller was hospitalised after the alleged incident.
Rapper Wale has helped a financially-strapped college student stay in school by awarding her a $25,000 (£16,670) scholarship. The Pretty Girl hitmaker offered up the prize as part of a Norfolk, Virginia radio competition to celebrate the recent release of his hit new album, The Gifted, and Lauren Pryor was announced as the winner after becoming the 25th caller to enter the 103 Jamz station's sweepstakes.
Pryor, who studies psychology at Virginia's Hampton University, admits she couldn't be more grateful to Wale for the generous donation because she feared she would have to drop out of school due to a lack of funds.
She says, "Winning this scholarship was truly a blessing. Almost not returning to Hampton University in the fall (autumn) because of expenses, I was exceedingly fortunate to receive this scholarship. It was truly a test of faith."
Wale, 28, decided to give back to the local community after earning a scholarship to play American football at Virginia State University. He also studied at Illinois' Robert Morris University and Bowie State University in Maryland before finding fame as a hip-hop star.
