"So excited about having announced the first legs of the stadium tour. So looking forward to announcing more dates soon!!!!!!!" Irish singer Niall Horan is overjoyed about One Direction's 2014 worldwide stadium tour, which was announced on Thursday (16May13).
Pop stars One Direction have encouraged Dutch fans to show their national pride by wearing orange to the band's gig in Amsterdam, Holland on Friday night (03May13). The What Makes You Beautiful hitmakers will play at the city's Ziggo Dome venue on Friday, and they want all their fans to come dressed in the country's signature colour.
The stars of One Direction launched the orange campaign on their Twitter.com pages, with Harry Styles writing, "So, for the show in Amsterdam tomorrow. You MUST be wearing orange. Orange and orange and orange only. Wear orange. Orange..."
Styles also posted a picture of a shop in Holland full of orange clothes, adding, "The show tonight will look niiiice (sic) and orange."
Niall Horan adds, "If you are coming to the Amsterdam show tonight at the Ziggo Arena (sic) make sure you wear Orange! Turn Ziggo Orange," and Louis Tomlinson concludes, "Everybody who's coming to the Amsterdam gig... Please be advised there is a strict dress code of orange and only orange!"
Pop star Niall Horan has reached out to fans to assure them a picture purportedly showing him naked in the shower is a fake. The snap, which shows a nude male from the waist up washing himself in the shower, spread around the internet and caused a stir among One Direction devotees, who were adamant the man in the picture was Horan.
However, the Irish singer insists the photo isn't of him.
He took to Twitter.com on Tuesday (23Apr13) and wrote: “That’s not me by the way in that pic! I’d be happy with biceps like that though to be fair!"
Pop hunk Harry Styles turned heads backstage at a recent One Direction concert when he stripped off to go streaking on a Segway scooter. The 19-year-old singer peeled off his clothes and hopped onto a Segway vehicle for a zip around the venue.
His bandmate Louis Tomlinson explains, "Niall (Horan) turned up recently at a gig with a Segway. We were all spinning about on it then Harry decided to strip off and go streaking. He turned a few heads."
Niall jokes, "He's a braver boy than me. It can get a bit chilly when you pick up speed. It can be quite cold backstage too."
It is not the first time Styles has been exposed - he was left red-faced when Liam Payne pulled down his jeans onstage during a sold-out gig in London earlier this month (Apr13).
Styles adds, "Worst of all though, it was a night when the concert was being filmed for our new movie. If (the footage) stays in, you'll see what I have to offer - in 3D."
Pop stars One Direction were thrilled when they finally came face-to-face with their waxwork doubles at Madame Tussauds' official unveiling in London on Thursday (18Apr13). Workers at the London tourist attraction have spent months recreating the stars in detail for the life-like figures, which will tour Madame Tussauds branches around the world after a stay in the British capital.
The group turned out for the official unveiling and posed for pictures with the dummies, with Harry Styles saying of the occasion, "It's amazing and such an honour" and Zayn Malik adding, "They look wicked (good), they're bang on (just right)."
Niall Horan admitted he was shocked to see his double wearing a pair of sneakers he once owned, adding, "This is weird - he's wearing my actual shoes."
The band's wax figures will be on display in London from 18 April to 11 July (13), in New York from 19 July to 11 October (13), and Sydney from 24 October (13) to 28 January (14).
A leading British politician has apologised after branding One Direction "grossly immoral" for making millions as part of the boyband. Business Secretary Vince Cable was announcing plans for a minimum wage increase in the U.K. on Monday (15Apr13) when he was asked for his thoughts about the pop stars' high wages.
Cable was quoted as saying "(it is) downright insensitive and in some cases grossly immoral" that certain individuals are paid so much.
However, Cable has now backtracked over his comments, insisting he did not hear the question correctly, and was in fact referring to company chief executives, not the members of the group.
A statement from Cable reads, "I don't want to attack One Direction; this is one particular group who are apparently very popular and very successful so I have nothing against them."
Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne are estimated to have earned $8 million (£5 million) each in 2012.
One Direction star Niall Horan fulfilled a "boyhood dream" by attending a training session at a top British soccer club on Wednesday (10Apr13). The singer and his bandmates met with players and coaches of Newcastle United at the team's training ground ahead of their second show in the city on Wednesday night (09Apr13).
Horan, who is a fan of U.K. club Derby County, told fans about the experience and revealed the visit was a dream come true for him. He also thanked the team's manager, Alan Pardew, for his hospitality, and was full of praise for soccer player-turned-coach Peter Beardsley.
In a series of posts on Twitter.com, Horan writes, "Massive thanks to Alan (Pardew) and the staff and players (at) NUFC (Newcastle United Football Club) for the training session today! Was incredible! Boyhood dream...
"Peter Beardsley! What a top guy!... What a player! The man is a footballin (sic) genius... Did a bit of scouting for Derby when I was there! Couple of lads we could snatch in the summer... That was one of those things when ya (sic) just go 'I cannot believe where we are!' Like just dreams are made of stuff like that!"
The Gavin & Stacey funnyman exchanged vows with Julia Carey, the mother of his son Max, at luxury venue Babington House in front of guests including Doctor Who star Matt Smith, comedian David Walliams and Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia.
The couple arrived at the wedding by helicopter after attending the wedding of TV presenter Dermot O'Leary in Kent, England on Friday (14Sep12), and after the nuptials, they were serenaded by Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody.
Hip-hop group Rizzle Kicks also performed, but the highlight of the reception came when Corden's best man Ben Winston played a spoof video tribute which mocked Corden's days in a boyband called Insatiable.
The video reunited the original members of the defunct group and also featured Sir Paul McCartney, One Direction, Snow Patrol and Take That stars Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams, who all recorded a line from a song Corden penned as a youngster, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.
After the ceremony, Niall Horan of One Direction took to Twitter.com to thank the couple for their hospitality, writing, "Incredible night last night! Thanks to (James Corden) and (Julia Carey) now Corden for having us! Had such a laugh!"
Corden and Carey, who were introduced by the comic's former roommate, actor Dominic Cooper, became engaged in 2010.
There really is no accounting for taste, especially in the minds of youngsters. Will Smith and his summer box-office disappointment "Wild Wild West" grabbed three awards at Nickelodeon’s 13th annual Kids’ Choice Awards taped Friday night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Smith won three orange blimps for favorite song ("Wild Wild West"), favorite song from a movie (ooh … guess the song) and favorite male singer.
Rosie O'Donnell (who emceed the event) and Adam Sandler each won two awards. O’Donnell, in fact, picked up the highest honor of the evening, the Hall of Fame Award for her humor and charity work.
Other orange blimp winners included the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Melissa Joan Hart and Mandy Moore.
And in a surprise career move, Robert De Niro (yes, Robert De Niro) presented an award, as did LL Cool J, 98 Degrees, Carly Pope and Leslie Bibb from the WB’s "Popular" and Mel Gibson.
GARBO’S SECRETS INTACT: Historians unsealed more than 100 letters and other correspondence between Greta Garbo and Mercedes De Acosta on Saturday, but anyone hoping that rumors of a lesbian love affair between the actress and her socialite friend would be confirmed are likely to be disappointed. Garbo's grandniece, Gray Reisfield Horan, told the Associated Press, "I see nothing that refers to a liaison … I don't think there's much here to back it up. I only knew her to be interested in men." The items were unsealed 10 years after Garbo’s death, as she requested in her will. Garbo’s estate won’t let the media quote the letters, but it’s possible the letters may be published in a book.
LATIN SIZZLE: Actors Antonio Banderas and Cameron Diaz, along with singers Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera, were among the Hispanic performers who were honored Sunday in Pasadena, Calif., at the fifth annual American Latino Media Arts Awards.
ALMA kudos also went to Latin tube talents Hector Elizondo of "Chicago Hope," Wilson Cruz of "Party of Five" and Laura Ceron of "ER."
Ten musical performers were recognized, including the Backstreet Boys, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan (with 'N Sync), Enrique Iglesias, Mariah Carey, Rage Against the Machine and Santana. Martin nabbed the male entertainer of the year award for shaking his bon-bon while Lopez, also of bon-bon fame, and Aguilera, of future bon-bon fame, received awards for female entertainer and new female entertainer, respectively.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MOUSE: Disney has paid horror director Clive Barker an advance of $4 million against nearly $8 million for all movie and ancillary rights to four unpublished fantasy novels he is writing. Collectively, the books carry the tentative title ``The Abarat Quartet.''
BLAME CANADA: Actor, Canadian and former Julia Roberts fiance Kiefer Sutherland joined thousands of protesters in Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday to protest plans to privatize some of Canada’s public health care system. Perhaps he was worried about his own benefits, since his acting career has apparently gone into cardiac arrest.
MURDOCH HAS CANCER: Doctors are planning several weeks of radiation treatment for Fox media mogul Rupert Murdoch. In a statement published by Murdoch's newspapers over the weekend, a spokesman said: "His doctors have told Mr. Murdoch the prognosis is very good. ... He has no intention of changing his work schedule."
THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: All it takes to own the pair of ruby red slippers from "The Wizard of Oz" is a whole lotta of cash. A pristine pair of slippers made for Judy Garland will be sold to the highest bidder May 24 by Christie's auction house, and collectors estimate the pair could fetch $750,000. Also available are the Cowardly Lion's "Oz" costume, a Rolls-Royce from the James Bond classic "Goldfinger" and Christopher Reeve's Superman capes and body stockings.
