There’s no true grit to be found in James Mangold’s fun but safe Western remake. Nitpicking, however, is no way to treat a movie that gives us two heavyweights like Russell Crowe and Christian Bale on top of their games.

The side-splitting yet poignant The 40 Year-Old Virgin took the No. 1 spot for the second week in a row with $16.4 million, while Terry Gilliam's The Brothers Grimm, a fantasy starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger as the 19th century fairy-tale siblings, debuted in second place with $15.1 million.

Just because the Academy will most likely snub a low-budget, character-driven gem like Broken Flowers doesn't mean you should. In fact, run to the theater, and don't be deterred if it's mostly empty, because you'll need all the room you can get to get a hold of this one.
