A planned The Goonies cast reunion at this weekend's (24-27Jul14) Comic-Con has been cancelled due to scheduling issues.
The stars of the 1985 movie, including Sean Astin and Josh Brolin, were slated to come together for The Goonies Never Say Die panel at the annual San Diego, California event on Thursday (24Jul14), but an organiser for the panel cites "talent scheduling conflicts and unforeseen circumstances" for the last-minute cancellation.
Earlier this year (14), director Richard Donner revealed a sequel to The Goonies is in the works, and that he had high hopes of bringing Astin, Brolin and Corey Feldman back for the follow-up.
Former child actor Corey Feldman interrupted his The Goonies co-star Sean Astin's SKYPE chat with fans on Wednesday (07May14) to quiz him about the cult film's sequel. The Lost Boys star popped up during the web event on HuffPost Live and wanted to know if Astin had heard anything new about a follow-up to the beloved 1985 film.
Feldman asked, "Sean, my question to you is what's happening with Goonies 2?"
The Lord of The Rings star replied, "This is what I know. I'm doing my television show The Strain for FX (network) in Toronto and I'm sitting down with the network brass and my phone is ringing in my pocket. It's you calling saying, 'Hey, I just met with the director and The Goonies 2 is happening so get ready to work'.
"They're actively trying to secure a writer based on an outline that they feel really confident about."
Talk of a sequel went into overdrive last month (Apr14) when director Richard Donner revealed the project was in the works.
The original film also featured child stars Josh Brolin, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton and Jonathan Ke Quan.
