Katie Holmes, Olivia Wilde AND Gerard Butler are among the big names who will host New York's free Global Citizen Festival on 28 September (13). They will be joined by will.i.am, Erin Heatherton, Deborra-Lee Furness, Karolina Kurkova and Freida Pinto. Alicia Keys and John Mayer will headline the event, which aims to help tackle poverty worldwide.
Producers of Naomi Campbell's reality TV show The Face had planned for weeks to replace judges Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha after just one season. The supermodel launched her TV career earlier this year (13) by joining the U.S. show, on which she and two other catwalk beauties compete to discover the new face of an American retailer.
It was reported over the weekend (31Aug13-01Sep13) that Kurkova and Rocha had decided not to shoot a second season, but now it has emerged producers had planned all along to replace two judges at the end of the first series, and it was their decision for the pair not to return.
A source close to the production tells WENN, "This transition has actually been in the works for quite some time and it was always the intention to sign two new mentors for each season. An announcement from the network is coming early this week. Naomi and team have found two new supermodels that will surely make for an even better second season."
Supermodel Naomi Campbell is the last coach standing on her reality show The Face after her fellow panellists Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha both dropped out. The British beauty made her first foray into reality TV earlier this year (13) when the show, on which the trio of models compete to find the new face of an American retailer, launched in the U.S.
However, bosses at the Oxygen network are scrambling to find replacements for Kurkova and Rocha after they decided not to return for a second season, according to New York gossip column Page Six.
Filming on the second run is set to start in New York next month (Oct13).
Campbell has also launched a U.K. version of the show, appearing alongside Erin O'Connor and Caroline Winberg.
Actresses Whoopi Goldberg, Evan Rachel Wood and Sienna Miller helped Robert De Niro kick off the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday (16Apr13) by attending the annual Vanity Fair gala in New York. The bash, hosted by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter and festival co-founders De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, is traditionally held on the eve of the Big Apple movie event and a slew of celebrities flocked to New York's State Supreme Courthouse to celebrate.
Pregnant Wood and British beauty Miller both attended the party without their respective partners, Jamie Bell and Tom Sturridge, while fellow guests included Goldberg, Mira Sorvino, Gretchen Mol, model Karolina Kurkova, director Baz Luhrmann, Jimmy Buffett, actor Christopher Walken and author Salman Rushdie.
Security at the Manhattan venue was stepped up in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing on Monday (15Apr13), but Rosenthal insisted the event had to go on.
She said, "Our hearts are with everyone in Boston. We can't let terror or fear deter us from doing anything, so we're going on with our film festival and, as the President (Barack Obama) and the Mayor (Michael Bloomberg) says, we're gonna keep on doing what we do."
The Tribeca Film Festival officially opened on Wednesday (17Apr13) and runs until 28 April (13).
When supermodel Naomi Campbell took the stage Monday morning at the Television Critics Association press tour, the entire room full of reporters stood up a little straighter and braced for any potential flying cell phones.
Luckily there were no iPhone fatalities. Instead, Campbell discussed her new Oxygen reality-show The Face — think of it as a combination of America’s Next Top Model and The Voice. When the TV competition premieres Feb. 12, viewers will see executive producer Campbell — along with former Victoria’s Secret angel Karolina Kurkova and world-renowned supermodel Coco Rocha — act as mentor to 12 hopeful models.
Each coach will guide a team of four girls as they compete to be the face of ULTA Beauty, one of the fastest-growing beauty retailers in the United States. Fashion photographer and former ANTM judge Nigel Barker will host what he considers to be a “truly unique” freshman series. Barker explained that he is excited to serve as a “negotiator” on the competition, rather than as a judge.
Campbell expressed her desire to bring a show like this to television. “There is no model handbook," she says. "Coming from the nineties we basically had to learn as we went along … I think the industry has changed and we have changed, and now I think a show like this is definitely needed.”
Executive producer Eden Gaha stressed that The Face will focus on the real world of modeling, as opposed to a characterized version that other modeling shows in the past have featured. (Ahem, he’s totally talking about you ANTM…)
The three supermodel coaches handpicked the top 12 girls from a group of 24 models, whose experience ranged from 10-plus years in the industry to fresh-faced newbies. The coaches were quick to reveal that there were no height requirements to enter the competition. “That’s what is so great about our show," Campbell says. "We’ve got from small to tall.”Barker said it was great to watch the coaches form a genuine bond with each of their contestants. Campbell agreed, revealing, “Whether the girls were on my team or not — whether they were on Karolina’s team or Coco’s team — I felt an overall protection to all the girls.” The mentor and EP says that at times she felt like a “certified shrink” on the show, however, Campbell explains that she was still brutally honest with her girls. “I'm the mentor or coach that gives tough love… I do believe that you should not sugar-coat anything."
So — what is the secret to winning the new Oxygen reality competition? “I think the bottom line is they have to believe in themselves,” Campbell says.
You can catch the series premiere of The Face Tuesday, Feb. 12 on Oxygen.
