British TV shows swept the board at the 35th annual International Emmy Awards in New York on Monday night.
The nation won seven of their eight nominations: Jim Broadbent won best actor for The Street, which also won best drama series; Little Britain won best comedy; and Simon Schama's Power of Art: Bernini won the award for best arts programming.
Stephen Fry's The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive won best documentary, and How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? took the award for best non-scripted entertainment.
British comedian Victoria Wood was nominated for her role in drama Housewife, 49--but the award went to Muriel Robin from France.
Former vice president Al Gore received an honorary award for his work in broadcasting.
The awards ceremony, held at the Hilton New York hotel, honors TV programs produced outside the U.S.
