Sports legend-turned-actor O.J. Simpson has been granted parole on some of the charges relating to his 2008 armed robbery conviction. Nevada Parole Board officials granted his request for leniency in his sentence on Wednesday (31Jul13).
Simpson still has to serve at least four more years behind bars because his sentences are to be served consecutively.
The parole board bosses ruled he was worthy of parole due to his "institutional conduct, participation in programs and lack of prior conviction history."
His parole becomes effective on 2 October (13). He'll then start serving a 12-month-minimum sentence related to his use of a weapon during the incident.
Simpson was sentenced to serve up to 33 years behind bars in October, 2008, for entering a Las Vegas hotel room with associates and collecting sports memorabilia that he claimed belonged to him.
Last week (ends26Jul13), Simpson told parole board members that his years in custody have been "painful" at times.
He explained, "I missed my two younger kids who worked hard getting through high school, I missed their college graduations. I missed my sister's funeral. I missed all the birthdays."
Pop singer/actress Ashlee Simpson went public with her new boyfriend Evan Ross at the launch of her sister Jessica's new clothing line in New York City on Tuesday night (30Jul13). The 28 year old has been linked to Ross for several weeks, but Tuesday night's outing to the party marked their first public appearance as a couple.
Simpson previously dated Boardwalk Empire actor Vincent Piazza, and she has a four-year-old son, Bronx, with her rocker ex-husband Pete Wentz.
Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie's U.S. reality show Fashion Star has been cancelled after two seasons due to low ratings. The style competition featured the pair as mentors, alongside menswear guru John Varvatos, giving 12 aspiring designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar contract and launch their line in America's largest retail stores, including Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue.
The TV programme premiered to strong viewing figures last year (12), but its recent second season failed to capture audiences and now bosses at NBC, the network which aired the show, have confirmed it's been axed.
Supermodel Elle Macpherson served as host and an executive producer during its 2012 debut, but was replaced as presenter by Louise Roe, who took over the job earlier this year (13).
Incarcerated former football star O.J. Simpson begged for his freedom during a parole hearing in Nevada, insisting he has been "the best prisoner" since he was jailed on kidnapping and armed robbery charges. The 66 year old was brought before a parole board on Thursday (25Jul13) after serving nearly five years behind bars for his conviction stemming from a sports memorabilia heist in Las Vegas in 2007.
During the 15-minute hearing, Simpson described how he had missed many important family events during his time in jail, telling the board, "(My years in prison) have been somewhat illuminating at times and painful a lot of times... I missed my two younger kids who worked hard getting through high school, I missed their college graduations. I missed my sister's funeral. I missed all the birthdays."
The former sports star also insisted he has been a model inmate during his incarceration, adding, "(I told prison officials) I would be the best prisoner they have ever had here, (and) I think, for the most part, I've kept my word on that."
Simpson, who is currently serving nine to 33 years on a number of charges, will find out the parole board's decision in around two weeks, but their ruling is unlikely to set him free as he is serving out concurrent sentences.
The star is also awaiting a decision on whether a judge will grant him a retrial after his lawyers argued Simpson was improperly represented during his court battle.

Talking about the inspiration for her new clothing collection, she tells America's Life & Style magazine, "I think there's a time and a place for certain outfits, and, for me, it's also about comfort and kind of finding your own way with clothes."
