Incarcerated former football star O.J. Simpson begged for his freedom during a parole hearing in Nevada, insisting he has been "the best prisoner" since he was jailed on kidnapping and armed robbery charges. The 66 year old was brought before a parole board on Thursday (25Jul13) after serving nearly five years behind bars for his conviction stemming from a sports memorabilia heist in Las Vegas in 2007.
During the 15-minute hearing, Simpson described how he had missed many important family events during his time in jail, telling the board, "(My years in prison) have been somewhat illuminating at times and painful a lot of times... I missed my two younger kids who worked hard getting through high school, I missed their college graduations. I missed my sister's funeral. I missed all the birthdays."
The former sports star also insisted he has been a model inmate during his incarceration, adding, "(I told prison officials) I would be the best prisoner they have ever had here, (and) I think, for the most part, I've kept my word on that."
Simpson, who is currently serving nine to 33 years on a number of charges, will find out the parole board's decision in around two weeks, but their ruling is unlikely to set him free as he is serving out concurrent sentences.
The star is also awaiting a decision on whether a judge will grant him a retrial after his lawyers argued Simpson was improperly represented during his court battle.
Beloved characters played by Fred Savage, Michael J. Fox and Claire Danes have topped a new list of the greatest TV kids. Savage's Kevin Arnold from The Wonder Years has beaten out Fox's Alex Keaton character from hit show Family Ties for the number one spot, while Homeland star Danes' Angela Chase from My So-Called Life comes in third in the new TV Guide countdown.
The Simpson's Bart Simpson tops the animated kids at four and Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy Summers rounds out the top five, while Diff'rent Strokes' Arnold Jackson (Gary Coleman), Roseanne's Darlene Conner (Sara Gilbert) and South Park's Eric Cartman make the top 10.
Australian pop star Cody Simpson is completing all his schoolwork on the road by interacting with his teacher via web cam. The 16 year old is studying while he is on tour in the U.S. with Justin Bieber and he uses the latest technology to keep his work up-to-date.
Simpson talks to his teacher via web calling service Skype and he completes all of his school work on the Internet.
He tells USA Today, "All my schooling is online-based. We Skype back and forth, and she'll give me assignments to do online. I'll complete them and send them back."

Ashlee Simpson is following in elder sister Jessica's fashionable footsteps by launching a new clothing line. The 28-year-old singer has revealed she is designing a "very different" adult collection - her first since she helped her sister create the Jessica Simpson Girls line for teenagers two years ago.
Talking about the inspiration for her new clothing collection, she tells America's Life & Style magazine, "I think there's a time and a place for certain outfits, and, for me, it's also about comfort and kind of finding your own way with clothes."
Singer Jessica Simpson has been discharged from hospital after giving birth to her second child. The pop star was released from Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Hospital on Wednesday (10Jul13) - her 33rd birthday - and she returned home to celebrate her special day with family and close friends.
She has been resting at the medical centre since undergoing a scheduled Caesarean section to deliver her son, Ace Knute, on 30 June (13).
Simpson and her fiance Eric Johnson are also parents to a 14-month-old daughter, Maxwell Drew.
Ashlee Simpson is to reprise her stage role as Roxie Hart in Brooke Shields' Chicago spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl. The singer/actress will join Stephen Moyer, Lucy Lawless, Samantha Barks and Drew Carey in the upcoming production, which will run for three nights at the fabled Los Angeles venue at the end of July (26-28Jul13), according to BroadwayWorld.com.
Simpson made her professional stage debut as Roxie Hart in the West End production of Chicago in 2006. She reprised the role for her Broadway debut.

British pop star Jessie J struggled through a radio interview on Tuesday morning (09Jul13) after she fell sick with a throat condition. The Price Tag hitmaker was struck down with a sore throat, but she refused to cancel her chat on Ireland's Today FM station.
In a post on her Instagram.com page, the star writes, "My voice has decided to be friends with the air con today and dry out to (The Simpsons character) Marge Simpson vibes! So I'm in bright trousers and will do all I can to be entertaining with hardly no (sic) voice! Let's do this! Today FM official I'm live now!! *whispering*."
Speaking during the interview, the star, who recently quit her role as a judge on the U.K. version of The Voice, declared, "To any of my contestants listening - yes, I lose my voice too, guys. You have to rest your voice, it's so hard. I know every trick of the trade (to treat a bad throat) - I know exactly why my voice is like this, I know exactly what I need to do to get it back. I'm just human."
Australian pop star Cody Simpson was instrumental in launching his younger sister's singing career as he encouraged her to follow him into the music business. Simpson, who is currently touring the U.S. with his friend Justin Bieber, helped his 15-year-old sister Alli land a recording contract and is now feeling proud as her debut track, Why I'm Single, is racking up millions of hits on YouTube.com.
Alli has revealed she wouldn't have pursued a pop career without her brother's encouragement, telling the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "I never had any intention of getting into the business but whenever I would sing around the house, Cody always encouraged me to take it further. I thought I might as well give it a go because we are in the right market to do it...
"The response has been mind blowing. I would never have thought it would make it into the top charts around the world. It's so surreal to me... We are both 100 per cent supportive of each other and are always there for one another."
Cody adds of his sister, "She's my best mate. We hardly argue and I always ask for her opinion on things. I trust her in every single way.''
Former Busted star Charlie Simpson has moved swiftly to dismiss rumours suggesting the band will be reforming on a reality TV show. The pop stars split in 2005 and Simpson has gone on to carve out a new career with rock group Fightstar, but speculation about a possible Busted comeback has increased following the success of U.K. TV show The Big Reunion, which resurrected 1990s groups including Five, 911, Atomic Kitten and Liberty X.
Fans had hoped Busted would be part of a potential second season of the show, but Simpson has now spoken out to torpedo the reunion rumours.
Speaking to Britain's Absolute Radio, he says, "Busted - that won't be happening, but I'll definitely be getting in the studio with Fightstar again."
He adds of reality TV talent shows, "I'm not a big fan of reality TV shows to be honest. It's a bit of a cliche to say it's ruining the music industry but I just don't really care about it... The majority of people who come off those shows and have that initial success before it fades away are left in a worse position from where they started."
Other bands including All Saints, East 17, Eternal and Savage Garden are rumoured to have signed up for the second season of The Big Reunion.
