The actors had to film sequences for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in which their characters, Jacob Black and Edward Cullen, become embroiled in a clash over Kristen Stewart's alter-ego Bella Swan.
But Lautner found it difficult to act angry at his pal - and they couldn't get through the scenes without giggling.
He tells Access Hollywood, "One of the most challenging things about filming this was having to hate Edward, because I’m looking at Rob and it was difficult. Every time we’d have a shouting match or he’d grab me on the shoulder or something, as soon as they called cut, we’d bust out laughing. Or we’d ruin plenty of takes.”
Shakespearean actor Patrick Stewart was knighted earlier today by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his career.
The 69 year old Stewart is a theatrical veteran, and regarded as one of the best classically trained actors of his generation. A member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for the past 44 years, he has appeared in more than 60 productions with the Company alone. Stewart’s most recent theater role found him playing the Bard himself in Edward Bond’s Boingo.
Stewart was never afraid to apply his classical training to more unconventional projects. He is much-beloved in the nerd community for his role in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Captain Jean Luc Picard and his part as Professor Xavier in the X-Men films, alongside fellow knight Sir Ian McKellan.
While most people would be surprised to hear that Sir Patrick was not already knighted, Stewart described the knighthood as “an unlooked-for honor.”
"The knights of the theater represented to me not only the pinnacle of the profession but the esteem in which the profession was held.” He continued. "To find myself, to my astonishment, in that company is the grandest thing that has professionally happened to me."
We here at Hollywood congratulate Stewart, and wish him luck in all his future enterprises. To commemorate Sir Stewart's new role as defender of the realm, we’ve included a tribute to what may have previously been the highpoint of his career: the Picard Song.

The third movie in the vampire franchise is set to launch in London on 1 July (10), with stars including Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz and Nikki Reed confirmed to attend the event.
But lead actors Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner won't be flying to Britain to promote the movie - Pattinson is currently shooting new film Water For Elephants in Los Angeles, but no reason has been given for the absence of his co-stars.
A representative from the film's U.K. distributor E1 Entertainment reveals the three stars will be recording a video message to be played to the hordes of fans in the British capital instead.
The statement reads, "Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan), Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) will not be far away with specially recorded video messages for their U.K. fans."
Summit today released two new images from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, featuring another amorous embrace between aspiring J.Crew models Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart). Enjoy:
Careful, kids. You're not married yet!
And here's a new shot of Edward with the Twilight B-Team:
Eclipse opens June 30, 2010.
The British hunk has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame since playing vampire hunk Edward Cullen in the hit Twilight movies - but his aunt, Diane Nutley, insists stardom has affected her nephew.
She tells Britain's Star magazine, "It looks like we're being frozen out. It's funny how fame affects people. Never in a million years did I think this would happen."
It's not the first time Nutley has spoken out about her superstar relative - last year (09) she revealed Pattinson had introduced alleged girlfriend Kristen Stewart to his parents, and urged the 23 year old not to jump into a serious relationship with his co-star.
Summit Entertainment today released a trio of new pics from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third chapter in Stephenie Meyer's harlequin teen vampire saga. No captions have been provided by the studio, so it's up to you to determine the context of the scenes depicted. I for one believe the first pic involves Bella negotiating the terms of a threesome with Jacob and Edward:
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. It opens June 30, 2010.
OMG!!! Summit Entertainment today released the latest theatrical one-sheet for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, featuring Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) flanked by Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) in a veritable hottie sandwich:
Poor Bella. Who could possibly choose between two such adorable supernatural specimens?
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opens June 30, 2010, but I wish it were here today!!!
When we last left Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, in the closing moments of 2009’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the glowering teen vampire and his mopey paramour were happily reunited, a marriage proposal was offered, and sensitive werewolf Jacob Black was sent home packing, his washboard abs no match for Edward’s sparkly marble skin. New Moon stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner are set to revisit their supernatural love triangle (in a chaste, PG-13 kinda way, of course) this summer in Eclipse, the third chapter of Stephenie Meyers’ harlequin saga.
Summit Entertainment today released a teaser trailer for Eclipse that features bits of everything fans expecting from a Twiliight flick -- namely, breathy Pattinson, shirtless Lautner, and pensive Stewart. But there's also a hint of the darker, action-movie tone promised by director David Slade (30 Days of Nighthem=), who succeeds New Moon's Chris Weitz at the helm:
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse also stars Dakota Fanning, Anna Kendrick, and Bryce Dallas Howard. It opens June 30, 2010.
The British hunk shot to fame as vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight, while his co-star and rumoured girlfriend Stewart is equally as pale-skinned in the movie franchise.
And the pair has been credited with giving youngsters the confidence to step out without a tan - which will ultimately help lower cancer rates.
Dr. Raj Mallipeddi says, "People have to want to resemble the individual giving the message. If that image comes in vogue then people will follow suit and ultimately that could be better for people's skin."
Eric Jimenz from Urban Decay Cosmetics adds, "Due to films such as Twilight, people see that pale skin can still be sophisticated, timeless and glamorous."
More than 80,000 cases of skin cancer are reported every year in the U.K. alone.
The actor has become a huge hit with the ladies after appearing as vampire Edward Cullen in the box office smash and he's got a big fan in 68-year-old Martha.
Actress Stewart filmed an appearance on The Martha Stewart Show earlier this week (begs16Nov09) and was expecting to swap pie recipes and tips with the kitchen whizz.
But she was surprised when Martha changed topics to focus the conversation on Stewart's on-screen love interest and rumoured real life boyfriend Pattinson - revealing she had had a dream about the British hunk.
The 19 year old says, "All she wanted to do was talk about Rob! She told me she had a dream that she hung out with him. I was like, 'That's awesome!'
"There was a whole pie segment and I assumed that's what we were gonna talk about. And she was like, 'You know, I'm such a fan and I had a dream about Robert the other night.' I was like, 'Dude, I should hook you guys up!'
"She just said they hung out - I don't know what goes along with that. I didn't really push it, I was just like, 'OK, that's cool.' She said he was really down to earth and real and she really liked that - in the dream!"
