Actress/journalist Irene Kane has lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. Kane passed away on Thursday (31Oct13) at her home in New York City, her family confirms to The Hollywood Reporter.
She landed a handful of roles onscreen and on the Broadway stage in the 1950s and '60s, but was perhaps best known for her role in Stanley Kubrick's 1955 film, Killer Kiss, in which she played the lead female character, Gloria Price.
Kane, whose date of birth has not been published, later decided to pursue a career as a writer and journalist under her real name, Chris Chase. She went on to work for TV networks CBS and CNN, and the New York Times, and co-authored autobiographies with Rosalind Russell, Betty Ford and Josephine Baker. She also wrote her own memoir, titled How Be a Movie Star, or A Terrible Beauty Is Born.
Former 'N Sync star Chris Kirkpatrick is a married man after tying the knot with his fiancee Karly Skladany on Saturday (02Nov13). The 'N Sync singers - Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass - reunited to celebrate as their former bandmate married his long-term girlfriend in a ceremony at the Loews resort hotel in Orlando, Florida.
Kirkpatrick has been dating Skladany for more than three years and he popped the question to the marketing rep during a birthday trip to Italy in October last year (12).
Actor Chris Noth wasn't the only star forced to slim down for his role on Sex And The City - his onscreen love rival John Corbett was also asked to lose weight for the hit TV series. The Law & Order star recently revealed that he had been asked by show creator Michael Patrick King to shed a few extra pounds before reprising his character Mr. Big in the film adaptations of the programme, and now producer Amy B. Harris confesses Noth wasn't alone.
But it wasn't his leading lady Sarah Jessica Parker who was asked to watch her weight - it was her other love interest Aiden, played by Corbett.
Harris admits TV executives wanted Corbett's character to make a return to the TV version after his initial split from Parker's Carrie Bradshaw looking sexier than ever, so he had to embark on a strict diet plan.
She tells Eonline.com, "We told Corbett to lose weight between seasons three and four. When we talked about whether or not we wanted to see John come back, we basically said we want him to come back so hot that she cannot believe it. Like, he looks so much better after she left him. And we made him lose weight. And then we made Chris lose weight for the movie."
And Harris still finds it funny how the male stars were the only ones placed under pressure to watch their figures: "It's hilarious. The women were, like, perfection, and no one ever mentioned anything about their weight ever. It was just the two guys! I think the women were just predisposed to be lucky and didn't have to worry."
Actor Tom Hiddleston stunned children at a charity screening of his new Thor sequel on Thursday (31Oct13) by making a surprise appearance at the New York event. The Avengers star, who plays villain Loki in the Marvel Comics films, flew in from London to attend the advanced screening and pay tribute to organisers at the Variety the Children's Charity of New York and The Children's Aid Society.
Speaking after the event, he said, "I just landed from London... and to sort of come through the airport, throw on some clothes and come into that response (at the cinema) where there were just 300 kids so excited to be there. To see that enthusiasm, to see them clap and cheer, wearing Loki T-shirts and swinging hammers, that was really gratifying.
"For charities like Variety of New York and Children's Aid Society and UNICEF, who I have done some work for, I believe so strongly in their work. There are armies of people behind the scenes who do tireless work on behalf of children all over the world. So it's nothing for me to turn up and introduce a screening for them. I hope it's a nice reward."
Thor: The Dark World, which also stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, hits U.S. theatres on 8 November (13).
Gwyneth Paltrow has vowed to return to the U.K. before her kids grow into teenagers. The actress and her husband, Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, have moved the family from London to Los Angeles to give them experience of living in Paltrow's native America.
But the star is adamant she will return to her U.K. home within three years as she doesn't want Apple, nine, and seven-year-old Moses to be teens in Hollywood.
She tells Red magazine, "I don't want my children to be teenagers in LA. No way. I'm looking at this move to America like two years, three years tops - then we will go back.
"It's part of my parenting philosophy that children should get the opportunity to reinvent themselves at a few points in their childhood to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie and to experience living in different cultures. It's an experiment.
"I love London - it's my favourite city in the world. I love my house and my life there. But in California, I have the girls I grew up with and my family."
Pop superstar Justin Bieber has found a new hobby - he showed off his graffiti skills by tagging a wall in Bogota, Colombia on Wednesday night (30Oct13). The Baby hitmaker paid tribute to his dead hamster by spraying 'R.I.P. Pac' above an image of a frog, and then appeared to show his support to embattled Chris Brown by writing 'Free Breezy' in another spot. The R&B singer, who is nicknamed Breezy by his fans, is currently seeking treatment for anger management after he was arrested for assault in Washington, D.C. on Sunday (27Oct13)
Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been confirmed to play Quicksilver in the new Avengers film. The Kick-Ass star has been the rumoured frontrunner for the role since June (13), but a scheduling conflict with the Godzilla reboot movie, which Taylor-Johnson also stars in, almost derailed his chances of appearing in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
However, the issue has reportedly been worked out and Taylor-Johnson will take on the superhero role, according to TheWrap.com.
Quicksilver is the twin brother of the Scarlet Witch, who will be played by Elizabeth Olsen.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which also stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, is set to hit theatres in 2015.
Fun-loving film fans want to be superhero Thor and The Hunger Games' Katniss for Halloween in America this year (13). Bosses at movie ticket website Fandango.com have surveyed movie buffs to find out which costumes are most popular for parties and trick-or-treating and Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence's characters have come out on top.
Among men, Henry Cavill's Superman and Iron Man are also popular, while Theodora, the Wicked Witch of the West from Oz: The Great & Powerful and Elizabeth Banks' The Hunger Games character Effie Trinket come in second and third, respectively, for women.
Meanwhile, Despicable Me's Minions have topped Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. and Monsters University as the most popular kids costumes this year.

The next big thing in sci-fi might be the perplexing sight of a World War II-era battleship hurtling through the endless vacuum of space. As ridiculous as that sounds, Skydance Productions has tapped Christopher McQuarrie to write and direct Star Blazers, an American live-action adaptation of the classic '70s Japanese anime series Space Battleship Yamato. The original anime series was translated for American television audiences under the name Star Blazers, but this will be the first time the series will get the American big screen treatment.
In Star Blazers, a future Earth comes under attack from an alien menace that destroys the Earth's atmosphere, forcing humanity to burrow underground to survive. A crew is tasked with blasting into space in a battleship retro-fitted with alien technology in order to retrieve a piece of alien technology that will revive the Earth's ecosystem and save the human race.
Skydance Productions is hoping that Star Blazers becomes the next massive franchise hit. Director and writer McQuarrie has a fair amount of action films under his belt, but nothing as large scale or just downright kooky as a flying warship from the 1940's. McQuarrie has written screenplays for Jack Reacher (which he also directed), The Tourist, Jack the Giant Slayer, and most notably, The Usual Suspects. Hopefully his flair for screenwriting will help us buy into the ridiculous idea that throwing a battleship into space is humanity's best option in an alien attack.
Embattled R&B star Chris Brown will reportedly spend up to three months in rehab in an effort to resolve his anger issues. The Kiss Kiss hitmaker checked into a treatment centre in Malibu, California on Tuesday (29Oct13), a day after pleading not guilty to a misdemeanour assault charge following a weekend (27Oct13) fight outside a Washington, D.C. hotel.
The singer stands accused of allegedly punching a 20-year-old man who was attempting to board his tour bus, and the incident could land him in jail for a maximum of four years if Los Angeles prosecutors feel his latest arrest violates his probation from his 2009 assault conviction following a fight with his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Sources tell TMZ.com that Brown is serious about his rehab stint, adding the singer is eager to get to the root his temper troubles and is open to undergoing treatment for as long as three months.
An insider tells the website, "The rehab facility has been told to take him (Brown) apart and put him back together."
Brown's decision to seek professional counselling prompted him to pull out of a Halloween concert in New York on Tuesday (29Oct13).
