Rod Stewart has scored a smooth new gig as a radio presenter. The singer will front his own one hour show on Britain's smoothfm from 1 February (15).
Stewart, who is a regular on the network's playlist, says, "You’ve heard my singing voice many times on smoothfm, so I thought it was time I grabbed the mic so we could have a chat. I’m looking forward to hearing your smooth favourites and playing you some of mine."
Station boss Paul Jackson adds, "Rod Stewart is one of the greatest and most enduring artists of all time. He has created so many magical songs that our listeners associate with memorable moments in their lives, from Have I told You Lately to Maggie Mae and The First Cut Is The Deepest. We are delighted to have Rod host his own shows."
He isn't the first artist to take a break from recording and performing to host his own show on smoothfm - Michael Buble, Seal, Olivia Newton-John and Keith Urban have also played presenters.
Carlos Santana's nephew has been tipped for success on reality show American Idol after wowing judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, Jr. and Keith Urban with his audition in New Orleans, Louisiana. Adam Lasher sported a cast over his right wrist after injuring his hand in a skateboarding accident, but that didn't stop him from showing off his guitar skills and winning over the star-studded panel by performing a song called These Shoes, which he had written himself.
During the audition, which aired in the U.S. on Thursday night (22Jan15), Lasher credited his uncle with teaching him how to play the instrument, calling him "a Jedi with a guitar", but he did not mention Santana by name - and Lopez, Connick, Jr. and Urban appeared unaware of who his famous relative was, even though show host Ryan Seacrest had discussed it with the 27-year-old wannabe prior to his try out.
Lasher also amused the judges after Lopez compared his look to that of U.S. late night host Jimmy Fallon, while the aspiring singer revealed he was a diabetic after Urban inquired about a pouch attached to his guitar strap.
He will now move on to the next round in Hollywood.
Controversial pop star Miley Cyrus has landed a role on the committee organising Sir Elton John's annual Academy Awards viewing party.
The veteran singer's charity event is considered one of Tinseltown's hottest tickets of the year, and Cyrus has been named as one of the co-chairs of the 2015 bash.
Cyrus, who has become known for controversial antics in recent years, is believed to have landed the role through her partnership with make-up giant MAC, which is among the sponsors of the event.
Elton John, who has been running his Oscar viewing party for 23 years, has previously branded Cyrus a "meltdown waiting to happen" over her brash behavior, which includes saucy performances, smoking pot onstage and stripping off for risque photoshoots.
Other big names on the list of co-chairs include actors Jim Carrey, Denzel Washington and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban, and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.
The party is held in Los Angeles on the night of the Oscars and raises funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. This year's (15) party takes place on 22 February (15) and features a performance by Nile Rodgers and CHIC, and food by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
"They're so disinterested... because when we go, 'Come to the set', they're like, 'Ugh...'. When we say, 'Come see Daddy play', they're like, 'No...' Fifi will sit and she'll watch her daddy and pick up a guitar and stuff, but Sunday literally is like, 'No way'. And she'll even say, 'Ugh, I don't like it.' She wants to be a party planner." Actress Nicole Kidman's two young daughters with singer husband Keith Urban have no interest in following their parents careers.
"I kinda rushed out (onstage) because I'm like, 'You gotta kiss at midnight!' It's a good omen, right? But he was thrown 'cause he was still playing guitar and trying to sing and then he saw me and was like, 'Er... er....' He said he lost his timing, so I threw him off." Actress Nicole Kidman interrupted her husband Keith Urban's New Year's Eve (31Dec14) gig in Niagara Falls, Canada so they could ring in 2015 with a kiss.
The stars of rock opera Tommy are heading for the 2015 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival after Sir Elton John and The Who were announced as headliners on Monday (12Jan15). The annual seven-day event, which will take place from 24 April (15) to 3 May (15), will also feature Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga, Keith Urban, No Doubt, John Legend, Pitbull and Hozier.
Chicago and Steve Winwood are also scheduled to perform.
The Who will make history with their set - the British band last performed at a festival over four decades ago.
Jennifer Lopez was given a thrill during auditions for American Idol in Nashville, Tennessee last year (14) when a romantic 20-year-old student insisted on slow-dancing with her.
Michael Simeon wowed Lopez and fellow judges Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. with his rendition of a Sam Smith song and then had an odd request for the singer/actress.
Urban took Simeon's guitar and Connick, Jr. took over the audition room piano and performed Stay With Me as their fellow judge danced with the young wannabe with her head on his shoulder. After the magical moment, which featured in an episode of American Idol on Wednesday (07Jan15), Lopez told her dance partner, "You're so sweet. That's the most fun I've had in months."
Lopez has previously romanced a number of dancers, including former husband Cris Judd and ex-boyfriend Casper Smart.
Actress Nicole Kidman and her husband, Keith Urban, have made it a rule to never take photos with fans while they are with their children. The Moulin Rouge! star explains she has no issues posing for photographs with fans while she is out and about by herself or with Urban, but she doesn't want her kids to feel uncomfortable while she is posing for photos with strangers.
She tells U.S. TV show Today, "Our kids don't understand what we do, so for them it's like, 'Well, why is this stranger taking a photo of you?' It's very discombobulating to them. They find it, like, odd.
"They get possessive of us; they're like, 'She's my mommy'."
Nicole Kidman has been hit with a lawsuit from a neighbour at her New York City apartment building after allegedly failing to properly install a pipe, which burst and flooded his downstairs condo. The Oscar winner's neighbour, Leonard Steinberg, and representatives at his insurance company, Nationwide Property & Casualty, are asking for nearly $47,000 (£29,375) in damages.
According to legal documents filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday (05Jan15) and obtained by the New York Daily News, Nationwide representatives claim Kidman authorised a contractor through New Industries Inc. to install a copper pipe in her home to carry water to her terrace.
However, the contractor allegedly did not install insulation or heat tape around the pipe, and when the weather turned cold in January 2012, the pipe froze and burst, subsequently shooting a cascade of water from the actress' home down into Steinberg's apartment.
Kidman and her country star husband Keith Urban purchased the condo in December 2010 for $10 million (£6.25 million).

Moved from Australia to Nashville in 1992 and formed the three-man band the Ranch before developing his solo career.
Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, this sexy singer-guitarist finally found his niche in Nashville playing American-style country. Raised by country-loving parents, the precocious musician began winning talent shows Down Under at age 8. As a teen, he continued to hone his skills, adding a rock-and-roll edge to his music. During the '90s he was an Oz chart-topper but in 1997 he relocated to Tennessee, founded a trio called The Ranch and caught the attention of the country community. Although an addiction to cocaine in the '90s threatened to derail his career, Urban went straight, and all that was left of his bad-boy days were his motorcycle, scruffy facial hair and rebel attitude. In 1999 he went solo, playing for the likes of The Dixie Chicks and Garth Brooks before releasing his eponymous hit album. Over the years he stayed in the spotlight due to his prolific output, good looks (his naked photos in Playgirl firmly established him as a sex symbol) and a high-profile romance with Hollywood A-lister and fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman. The two made it official in June 2006.
