It’s been said that lightning doesn’t strike twice. But how have the following actresses been able to star on more than two successful shows? With so many actresses cursed to star on failed TV shows, these actresses all seem to have the golden touch to make a series last. They have all been series regulars on television shows that have taken off and lasted insanely long ... in some cases unnecessarily long.
Thorne-Smith has bright blue eyes, a slightly raspy voice, and a general likable folksiness. She starred in Melrose Place from day one. Despite initial bumps in the road, the series went on to last seven seasons partly because of her on-again/off-again relationship with Andrew Shue (who was never heard from again). Ally McBeal became a huge must-see series with the insane antics of an off-beat law firm. It lasted five seasons and launched the careers of Calista Flockhart, Lucy Liu, Jane Krakowski, and Portia de Rossi. Then despite all sense of rhyme or reason, According to Jim managed to last eight seasons.
Garth managed to do the impossible. She was on both a series and its reboot and both did extremely well. She was on the wildly successful Beverly Hills 90210 and managed to star on the show for a startling ten seasons. When the series was rebooted, she was the anchor to tie the new series, 90210, to the original. She didn’t stay on the series, but it did go on to last a respectable five seasons. This is a great achievement considering the number of television channels grew exponentially since the original series hit the airwaves. She also played Amanda Bynes’ older sister for the five season run of What I Like About You.
Malick has the perfect blend of beauty, brains, and comedic genius that it’s no wonder she can help keep a series on the air. She has done a million guest spots but has helped more than a few series find their groove. She starred on HBO’s T&A comedy Dream On with Brian Benben. It lasted six seasons, which is a lot for a series on premium cable in the early '90s. She then starred in the eight seasons of NBC’s Just Shoot Me. Now, she’s currently lending her magic to Hot in Cleveland, already in its fifth season.
Holly Marie Combs
Did someone say magic? Combs is best be remembered for playing Piper, a witch that could freeze time on Charmed for eight seasons. The series held the record for the longest running series with an all-female cast until it was eclipsed by Desperate Housewives. Combs started her career playing Kimberly Brock on the David E. Kelly series Picket Fences, which lasted a respectable four seasons. She is currently starring on Pretty Little Liars. It has five seasons under its belt and shows no sign of ending anytime soon.
Cuoco is plucky, pretty, and a great addition to any television show. Cuoco starred on 8 Simple Rules which survived a notable name change and the loss of comedic genius John Ritter, and lasted a respectable three seasons. She also joined the cast for the final season of Charmed without causing a jump the shark situation. She has done voice-over work on shows like Brandy & Mr. Whiskers and 6Teen which have lasted more than one season. Most notably, she is starring on The Big Bang Theory. It’s in its seventh season and still going strong.
Sagal is the definitive actress with the magic touch. She has managed the impossible more than once. She starred in Married With Children which helped launch the Fox network. She starred on 8 Simple Rules with Cuoco, and helped the series survive. She lent her lovely voice to Futurama as the voice of one-eyed beauty Turanga Leela. The sci-fi animated series went on to last seven seasons, four movies, and multiple cancellations. She’s currently flexing her dramatic muscle in FX’s dark biker drama, Sons of Anarchy as matriarch Gemma Morrow. Not only is she great at playing a mother, she’s great at being a mother to a successful series.
Talent often runs in the family -- just ask the Jacksons (maybe not LaToya) -- and so it comes as no surprise that many celebrities also have siblings who share their aspirations in entertainment. While some successfully strike out on their own like Solange Knowles, others stay perpetually in the shadows of their sibling's success. So what new faces have recently emerged from some famous family trees?
The little sis of the The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco recently made headlines after she won her audition for The Voice. The aspiring singer was currently working as Cuoco's personal assistant, but given the tears Kaley shed during the audition, the two are clearly close. Briana has also made bit appearances on The Mentalist and The Big Bang Theory thanks to her family connection, but we'll have to wait and see if she can survive on The Voice on her own musical merit.
In the ultimate case of Single White Female, Lindsay Lohan's half-sister has recently clawed her way into the media spotlight after it was revealed she underwent plastic surgery five times to resemble her sister. The formerly fresh-faced 18 year-old now resembles more a sad Cabbage Patch kid than her famous sibling. As if this family wasn't dysfunctional enough, Horn only recently learned of her status as the love child of Michael Lohan after he took a paternity test on a daytime talk show in 2012. Something tells us Lohan didn't do a victory dance
Sharing the same surname and bewitching beauty as her famous sister, Sofia Vergara, this up and coming actress has already cemented her sex-symbol status by appearing on the cover of Maxim. While technically not Sofia's biological sister, Sandra is her first cousin and was adopted by Sofia's parents when she was a month old. While she won't be appearing on Pepsi billboards anytime soon, Sandra has landed small rolls on CSI: Miami, the film Fright Night and a recurring role in The Bold and the Beautiful.
It's often the younger sibling who wants to follow in their famous brother or sister's footsteps, but for Gemma Styles (older sister of One Direction's Harry Styles) — she was a late bloomer. Gemma shares her brother's passion for music and allegedly already has a demo in the bag with an album soon to follow. Her brother is very supportive and the two share a close relationship (he does have her name tattooed on his arm). Plus it doesn't hurt to have a built-in, rabid fan base at your disposal.
True sibling rivalry is when you share a Burberry modeling campaign, play a friendly game of polo in the English countryside and calorie-count your biscuits together. Well, the first part is true for Alex Watson, the smoldering hot and professional model brother of Emma Watson. He pals around with Malfoy, walks the red carpet and looks sexy with his hair pushed back — he's already well on his way to continuing the family tradition.

Paramount has pushed back the release date for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Deadline.com reports. The action-comedy, which stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as fairytale bounty hunters, has been moved from March 2012 to January 11, 2013, presumably to allow more time for either Renner or Arterton to become a big-enough star to sell an action-comedy about fairytale bounty hunters.
In other Paramount release-date news, the Eddie Murphy comedy A Thousand Words has been moved from March 23, 2012, to April 20, 2012, while the Duplass Brothers' latest film, Jeff, Who Lives at Home, has been pushed back from March 2 of this year to March 16. The latter will give the sibling directors more time to put the finishing touches on the complex CGI work that has come to distinguish their high-gloss "mumblecore" efforts.

It's the typical teenage romance shuffle over on the CW's Beverly Hills: 90210 reincarnate, with a little Thanksgiving seasoning. It's all a bit silly, but a little melodrama never hurt anyone.
Looks like James Franco and Anne Hathaway may battle some extra terrestrials in the near (but really distant) future.
Bloody Disgusting reports that the two actors are interested in roles for the prequel to Alien, written by Lost scribe Damon Lindelof and to be directed by original helmsman Ridley Scott. Of course, these aren't the first big names names rumored to be boarding a Weyland-Yutani craft in much anticipated flick: Natalie Portman, Noomi Rapace and Carey Mulligan have all been linked to the project in some capacity, while others like Gemma Arterton turned out to be nothing more than web-based fantasies.
Naturally, this is all just talk and no solid casting has been announced, but many sources believe that Twentieth Century Fox will announce the official roster soon.
Regarding Hathaway and Franco: I like the idea of both of them in the Alien prequel. Hathaway's resume is full of rom-coms and dramas. Outside of Get Smart, we haven't seen her take a shot at action movies (see what I did there?). Starring in Alien would give her the chance to diversify herself as an actress and open herself up to a new fan base. And regarding Franco? That dude can just do whatever he wants and it will be awesome. Stoner pot dealer? Check. Beat poet? Check. Hiker who cuts off his arm to live? Check. Hopefully he can add "space traveler who rips off Alien's head" to that list.
