The hotel heiress has been dating David Katzenberg, whose father co-founded film studio DreamWorks, for the last four years after meeting as teenagers.
But they have now gone their separate ways due to their hectic schedules, reports New York Post gossip column Page Six.
A source tells the publication, "They broke up quietly after four years together. The main reason was that they have been busy with their work schedules, and it has made it difficult to spend time together.
"Nicky has been back and forth traveling overseas a lot with her business. She has recently been in Asia promoting her jewellery line, and David is starting a new production company. Their schedules never seemed to match.
"There is no scandal or any third person - they remain close friends, they have been friends since they were teenagers."
Sources have confirmed that Nicky Hilton has quietly split with longtime boyfriend David Katzenberg after four years of being together. Evidently Hilton's parents were hoping she would eventually tie the knot with the son of DreamWork's Jeffrey Katzenberg, but just like most kids take pleasure in disappointing their parents, the Hilton girls are no different. Sources claim that the split was amicable and happened after their work pushed them in different directions. One friend divulged that "They broke up quietly after four years together. The main reason was that they have been busy with their work schedules, and it has made it difficult to spend time together." The friend adds, "Nicky has been back and forth traveling overseas a lot with her business. She has recently been in Asia promoting her jewelry line, and David is starting a new production company. Their schedules never seemed to match."
Despite the split, the ex-couple have been talking and tweeting one another (how romantic?). So there's no drama...really? How very un-Hilton of them. A source backs up this hard to believe claim stating, "There is no scandal or any third person -- they remain close friends, they have been friends since they were teenagers." Sorry to hear about the split Nicky, but look on the bright side -- you'll always have Paris.

The Mean Girls star was spotted at the intimate gathering outside Hilton's Malibu, California home on Sunday (24Jul11), joining guests such as actress Emma Roberts, Inception star Lukas Haas and the socialite's designer sister, Nicky.
And the one-time party pals were all smiles when Lohan arrived at the event.
A source tells TMZ.com, "Everyone was so surprised when Lindsay walked in and we thought they didn’t get along. But they immediately gave each other a big hug."
The stars' friendship has wavered in recent years following Lohan's string of legal troubles, and Hilton recently apologised to the actress after making a jibe about her recent court case over the alleged theft of a necklace during an episode of her reality TV show, The World According To Paris.
Lohan recently completed 35 days of home confinement stemming from a probation violation as a result of the theft allegations.
The Hills are alive with the sound of separation. After just 10 months together, a source confirms that Kristin Cavallari and her Chicago Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler, have called off their engagement stating, "She got dumped...she's absolutely devastated. She can't believe this is happening." The couple became engaged last April in Mexico and were planning a spring wedding.
The duo had been spending a lot of time in Chicago and the Laguna Princess was even planning to move there during the upcoming football season. The source claims that, "She was planning her dream wedding, the date was set, the location – everything was set...she's in shock that the dream wedding she was planning is going to end this way." Only a week ago Cavallari tweeted about her engagement party saying, "Thx to all my amazing friends for making my engagement party a blast last night!" The reality star wasn't going to let a little thing like a canceled engagement keep her from going out on a Saturday night though. Cavallari hit The Beverly, an L.A. lounge, and was spotted without her engagement ring. A source claimed, "She was hanging out at a table with Nicky Hilton and Alessandra Ambrosio...she was telling friends how they called off the engagement." A rep for Cavallari had no comment thus far, but it looks like this California girl won't be heading to the windy city anytime soon.
The socialite announced last week (end26Jun11) that she had parted from Waits, who she had been dating for just over a year.
