The socialite was a star guest at the Race to Erase MS benefit in Century City, California and admits she was drawn to the cause after watching her grandmother Marilyn's battle with the debilitating condition, which attacks the brain and spinal cord. Marilyn Hilton died at the age of 76 from complications associated with MS.
Paris explains, "I lost my grandmother to multiple sclerosis so this cause is something very close to my heart. I believe that they will find a cure if everyone does their part."
Hilton and her designer sister Nicky helped to raise money at the gala's silent auction by offering up an invitation to join them on a shopping trip.
The Al-Qaeda leader, 54, is believed to have been the mastermind behind the tragedy of 9/11, when two airplanes crashed into the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the worst terrorist atrocities in the country's history.
Reports of Bin Laden's death began surfacing late on Sunday (01May11) after an almost 10 year manhunt.
U.S. President Barack Obama confirmed the news during a specially televised press conference on Sunday, revealing he received intelligence about Bin Laden's whereabouts last August (10) and authorised action last week (ends29Apr11). Bin Laden was shot during a U.S.-led military mission earlier on Sunday and his body is currently under U.S. custody. DNA tests have confirmed his identity.
During the live telecast, Obama said, "Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world, the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda, and a terrorist who is responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women and children."
Stars from the world of showbusiness were quick to react to the news, taking to their blogs on Twitter.com to voice their astonishment and celebrate the death of America's public enemy number one.
Hollywood action man and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger writes, "I'm proud of our men and women in uniform. Wherever you are, take a minute to say thank you to one of the brave heroes who serve our country."
In a series of 'tweets', CNN newsman Piers Morgan stated, "Bin Laden dead. Wow... What a moment for Obama. What a moment for America. Magnificent address by the President. And magnificent operation. This is his finest hour."
Actress Christina Applegate writes, "Let me try this one more time...my heart raced when I heard the news. the terror he caused us was epic.the lives lost, too many..", while designer Nicky Hilton adds, "After 9 years, 8 months and 20 days justice is finally served. #binladenisdead."
The news was made even more emotional for rocker Nikki Sixx, who heard the news while in the Big Apple: "Being in New York and hearing that Bin Ladin is dead is icing on the cake...".
Meanwhile, a stunned LeAnn Rimes exclaims, "Omg (Oh my god), Bin Laden!!! Blessings to our troops and a bit of peace for our country and those who lost loved one's (sic) in 9/11", and Spice Girl Melanie Brown writes, "We need to take a moment to give thanks to the soldiers who risked there lives."
The millionaire reality TV star, along with her sister Nicky and mother Kathy, was given the accolade by the Starlight Children's Foundation for her philanthropy efforts.
Following a silent auction and a cocktail dinner at the Century Plaza Hyatt Hotel in Los Angeles, the Hiltons were presented with their Heart of Gold trophies.
Hilton took to Twitter.com after the event to tell her fans about the emotional night, writing, "Such a beautiful evening tonight accepting my award for the humanitarian work I do with the children of the Starlight Foundation. Such a heartwarming night listening to all the parents' speeches. I was so touched that I cried.
"These families and their children go through so much and my heart and prayers are with them. It's such an amazing feeling to give back and make a difference in someone's life. I am so honoured to be apart of such an amazing cause."
And the following day Hilton continued her charity work by taking part in a run alongside singer Fergie, her husband Josh Duhamel and Glee star Dianna Agron, to raise money for the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief effort.
The movie icon died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and stars around the world have been paying their respects.
Joining the salutes to the great Dame, socialite Hilton has applauded the actress for being "an inspiration". She has posted a wedding photograph of Taylor and her grand-uncle Conrad 'Nicky' Hilton on her website, and writes, "So sad to hear about Elizabeth Taylor. She was so beautiful, such an inspiration and an icon. She was an amazing humanitarian and brought smiles to everyone around the world. She was always so sweet to me and I will really miss her."
Meanwhile, Brits Osbourne and Beckham took to Twitter.com to pay tribute to the late star.
Osbourne writes, "I am so sad to hear about Elizabeth Taylor! Rip you will always be one of my heros! (sic)"
And Beckham adds, "The world has lost a truly iconic beauty, inside and out. Elizabeth Taylor will be deeply missed."
Osbourne's mum Sharon has also posted a tribute on Twitter.com, writing, "Elizabeth Taylor was my idol growing up. Truly beautiful inside & out. She was the last of the real Hollywood."
And another leading celebrity lady, Jane Fonda, offers: "I knew elizabeth Taylor and I can tell you she was kind, brave, generous and loyal. I am sad."
Police stopped Hilton's vehicle after noticing she was talking on her cell phone while driving her luxury car through Beverly Hills.
The star was then handed a citation ticket, which will cost her around $100 (£62.50), and allowed to leave the scene, reports TMZ.com.

The reality TV star passes the milestone on Thursday (17Feb11), but she began celebrating two days early when Waits surprised her with a bright yellow Lexus, a day after the pair enjoyed a romantic Valentine's Day meal together.
Hilton was photographed hugging and kissing Waits after the sports car was delivered to her driveway.
And the socialite followed it up by staging her first 30th birthday bash - on Tuesday night she was joined by 300 friends, including rapper Lil Wayne, comedienne Kathy Griffin, and sister Nicky, at a 1920s-themed party in the Hollywood Hills.
The heiress wore a red basque and feathery skirt for the Pimps and Showgirls party, and told her followers on Twitter.com: "So amazing when Lil Wayne stopped by to give me a birthday present. Everyone at the party loved seeing him!"
Hilton looks set to continue the celebrations in style - earlier this month (Feb11) she revealed she is planning a series of parties to mark the big day, saying, "It's a big birthday so I'm going to be going to a lot of places to have parties: Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas."
The redhead became friendly with Hilton after they filmed U.S. reality TV show My Life On The D List together, and The Simple Life star invited Griffin to her annual Halloween bash last month (Oct10).
Griffin planned to go as a sailor - and the blonde beauty encouraged her to sex up the outfit.
She tells the Las Vegas Review Journal, "It was stripper shoes, fishnets and a sailor minidress. You've gotta bring the heat when you're going to a Paris Hilton party.
"If you go to a Paris Hilton Halloween party, everybody is a 'naughty something'. Her sister Nicky wasn't just Minnie Mouse. She was a sexy, naughty Minnie Mouse."
The socialite and her partner enjoyed an evening out at the Boa Steakhouse in Los Angeles with her sister Nicky and some friends, but as the couple was driving away from the restaurant, the car they were travelling in allegedly clipped a female snapper.
Waits, who was behind the wheel, allegedly sped off after the accident, while paramedics were called to the scene to treat the unnamed woman, who was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The former casino worker is said to have later returned to the scene without his famous girlfriend and spoken to police about the incident. He was allegedly cited for hit-and-run and allowed to leave the scene, according to TMZ.com.
The socialite jetted to Asia on Monday (20Sep10) just hours after she accepted a one-year suspended sentence in Las Vegas for possessing cocaine.
She was stopped by officials on arrival at Narita Airport in Tokyo on Tuesday (21Sep10) over her drug conviction and was questioned for several hours.
The heiress was ordered to stay at a nearby hotel while a decision was pending on whether to allow her to enter the country - but on Wednesday Hilton boarded a plane bound for the U.S.
As she headed for the departure lounge, she said, "I'm going back home. I look forward to coming back to Japan in future and I love everyone and can't wait to see my fans when I get back."
In a post on her Twitter.com blog, she added: "About to take off. Going home now. So dissappointed (sic) to miss my fans in Asia. I promise to come back soon. I love you all! Love Paris xoxo."
Hilton was due to travel around the Far East with her sister Nicky to promote her chain of fashion shops and launch her new fragrance, Tease, but the entire trip - which included stops in Indonesia and Malaysia - has now been cancelled.
