Actress Jennette Mccurdy has opened up about her unexpected romance with basketball star Andre Drummond in a new essay about dating in the world of technology. The iCarly star struck up a flirty friendship with the Detroit Pistons player on Twitter.com this summer (13) after he made it known to fans that he had a big crush on her, and their online connection soon turned into a real-life date.
McCurdy and Drummond went public with their fledgling relationship last week (03Sep13) when they were spotted leaving a Los Angeles restaurant hand-in-hand, and now the blonde beauty has penned an article detailing her initial doubts and concerns about finding love on the Internet.
In the piece, written for a blog on the Wall Street Journal website, McCurdy reveals she only became aware of the sportsman's interest after being bombarded with messages from her Twitter fans, and she immediately found his public adoration to be "sweet, gutsy, and flattering".
They soon exchanged numbers and began speaking regularly over the phone, but McCurdy suffered an attack of the nerves after arranging to meet up in California.
She writes, "I was excited. Then, as his visit crept closer, I began to feel a little unnerved. What if my fears of the overhype of cyberspace played out in my life? ...What if the person I had built up in my head was different than the person I'd soon be sitting across from? What if technology aided and enhanced our conversations to the point where we felt crippled without it? What if two screens cannot properly replicate two humans after all?"
McCurdy needn't have worried, but she warns others to be mindful about striking up close relationships online: "The Andre Drummond I got to know in person is the same person he projects online, but it's important to remember that the image displayed through a screen is in fact just that - a display. A person doesn't converse in 140 characters, they don't react in filters, and a well-played moment doesn't loop itself every 6 seconds. We don't live our life in glossy little quips, blips, and fragments, regardless of the fact that that's what we're encouraged to do in this day and age...
"If played right and used smartly, social networking can be like a little scrapbook for your personal life... That's what social networking can and hopefully does do for our personal lives: frame them nicely and with cute little borders that we can show off to our friends and be proud of."
Jimi Hendrix's ex-girlfriend Kathy Etchingham has publicly condemned a new biopic of the music legend, branding the movie inaccurate and miscast. Etchingham, who dated the musician for several years and is portrayed by British actress Hayley Atwell in All is by My Side, opposite Andre Benjamin, better known as former Outkast star Andre 3000, as Hendrix, is not happy with the way her story has been altered for the big screen, and her lawyers have asked for numerous corrections in a bid to improve the accuracy.
She also reveals movie bosses ignored her when she offered to consult on the project, telling Britain's Sunday Express, "I wrote them an email when I first heard about it (the film) saying, 'If you want any help don't hesitate to contact me'. They didn't reply.
"(The film's costumes have) Austin Powers written all over (them); I would not be seen dead in anything like that... Andre and Hayley are much older than Jimi and I were, and it shows... A lot of people will go and see it who have never read any of the biographies and they will think it's the gospel truth. I don't want it (the film) to fundamentally change history."
The film premiered at this month's (Sep13) Toronto Film Festival in Canada.
Icarly star Jennette Mccurdy is dating basketball star Andre Drummond after they struck up a flirty friendship on Twitter.com. The blonde actress fell for the towering sportsman after he made his interest in her public by tweeting photos of her as part of a 'Woman Crush Wednesday' event on the microblogging website.
And the pair proved the power of social networking when they later hooked up for a date, according to TMZ.com.
McCurdy and Detroit Pistons star Drummond seemingly went public with their blossoming relationship on Tuesday (03Sep13) when they were spotted hand-in-hand leaving a restaurant in Los Angeles after a romantic meal.
Opera singer Katherine Jenkins has rejoined the record label that launched her career. The Welsh star signed for the Universal Music Group in 2004 but moved to Warner Music for a reported fee of $8.7 million (£5.8 million) in 2009.
She left when that deal ended earlier this year (13) and now it has emerged she has returned to her musical alma mater by signing for Universal subsidiary Decca.
Mezzo-soprano Jenkins will join other classical artists at the label, including Andre Rieu and Andrea Bocelli.
Singer-turned-reality TV star Peter Andre has vowed to withdraw from the spotlight when his new baby is born. The Mysterious Girl hitmaker has two children with his ex-wife, former model Katie Price, and he is due to become a dad for the third time after announcing last month (Jul13) that his new partner Emily MacDonagh is pregnant.
Now he has revealed when the baby arrives, he plans to scale back on his fly-on-the-wall show Peter Andre: My Life so he can devote even more time to his family.
Andre tells The Sun newspaper, "Things will be done slightly differently... I've got to understand that I'm also with someone that's not in the industry, so we can approach this differently, which is great... It's going to be a slight little farewell for a while after this year... (But) we can always come back to a full reality show in five years' time. It's not the end."
Australian singer Andre has a son Junior and daughter Princess Tiaamii from his three-year marriage to Price.
British model-turned-reality TV star Katie Price has given birth to her fourth child. Jett Riviera was born last week (begs12Aug13) eight weeks premature and was delivered via Caesarean section after Price developed a dangerous infection while on vacation abroad.
The 35 year old and her husband Kieran Hayler are currently waiting to take the baby home as he remains under doctors' care.
Price, previously known as Jordan, released a statement via her Twitter.com account on Sunday (18Aug13), which reads, "Many thanks for all your kind words of support and congratulations. Kieran and myself are so happy with our baby Jett. We look forward to coming home when allowed and introducing him to our families."
Price is already mum to Junior, eight and six year old Princess from her marriage to Australian singer Peter Andre. She is also mum to Harvey, 11, from a previous relationship.
Bono's actress daughter Eve Hewson is heading to the small screen after landing a role in Steven Soderbergh's upcoming TV series The Knick. The This Must Be The Place star, 22, has been cast alongside Clive Owen in the 10-part show, which is based in 1900s New York and will centre around groundbreaking surgeons and staff at Knickerbocker Hospital during a period of high mortality rates and a lack of antibiotics.
Kristen Stewart's ex-boyfriend Michael Angarano has also joined the line-up, which includes Andre Holland and Sinister's Juliet Rylance, according to Deadline.com.
Production on the programme, which will air on America's Cinemax cable network, is due to begin in late September (13).
Cee Lo Green has blamed fellow hip-hop star Andre 3000's lengthy hiatus from the music industry on a "severe case of stage fright". The Forget You hitmaker, who grew up with the rapper in Atlanta, Georgia, claims Andre 3000 worries about living up to the critical acclaim of his last solo material, which was released as part of the Outkast double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2001.
His publicist recently played down reports suggesting the Hey Ya! star is set to release a new solo album in early 2014, and now Cee Lo has shed some light on why Andre 3000 is taking his time with his music.
Cee Lo tells MTV's Rap Fix Live show, "He just said he had a severe case of stage fright and just kind of been away from the game and didn't know if he could truly live up (to his reputation)... He just said he was bothered by this bar that had been set and maybe he wants to do something different, and he'll always be his worse competition, his worse critic and maybe he don't (sic) want to live up to what people think he should do (sic)."
Andre 3000 has been spending the past few months in Dublin, Ireland filming an upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is By My Side, which is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada in September (13).
Rapper Big Boi is turning his love for a good pair of socks into a profitable business idea by launching his own collection. The Outkast star has been trying out his new Left Foot products for himself and he is excited to share the Crooks & Castles design collaboration with fans.
The Atlanta, Georgia native tells the Wall Street Journal, "They will be very colourful, you know. Some have images of pitbulls on them, also some with gold chains and medallions. A lot of different designs and very, very colourful. It reflects my personality. I can't wait for people to get them. I've been rocking (the socks) for a few weeks now, the samples. They're comfy."
And Big Boi insists his sock fetish is nothing new: "One of my passions has always been flip flops and socks. That's what we do down here in the South...
"If you go back a few years, me and (Outkast bandmate) Andre 3000 always be into socks, and such (sic). It's just part of your whole get up, part of your whole outfit. I just want to bring a fresh layer to it."
A representative for Andre 3000 has played down reports suggesting the rapper is preparing to release his first solo album in 13 years in early 2014, insisting the star has yet to confirm anything. The Outkast member has unveiled little new material since the hip-hop duo's Idlewild project in 2006, and he has only recorded a handful of guest appearances in the last seven years, including tracks by Beyonce, Drake, Lil Wayne and Frank Ocean.
However, he allegedly let slip plans to make a chart comeback during a chat with BET network boss Stephen Hill backstage at Lil Wayne and T.I.'s America's Most Wanted Music Festival stop in Washington, D.C. on Friday (02Aug13).
Tweeting about the conversation he had with Andre 3000, Hill wrote, "Me: hey what's up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah... and I got a solo album coming top of the year. Me:*droptofloor*".
However, Andre 3000's publicist has urged fans not to get too excited about the album news - because details about the project are still to be determined.
His spokesperson tells Billboard.com, "Regarding reports of a specific plan to release an album in early 2014, there is no official confirmation on that report."
Andre 3000's debut solo disc was released as one half of Outkast's 2001 double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which also featured a whole set of songs recorded separately by his bandmate Big Boi.
The rapper has been spending the past few months in Dublin, Ireland filming an upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is By My Side, which is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada in September (13).
