Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Kate Moss helped disgraced fashion designer John Galliano get back on his feet after his infamous anti-Semitic rant and subsequent stint in rehab. Galliano's fall from grace came after he was arrested for hurling racist comments at a couple during a night out in France in 2011, which cost him his job as head designer at Christian Dior later that year (11).
The star apologised, but the damage was done and Galliano was largely ostracised from the fashion community.
He recently sat down with Vanity Fair magazine for his first interview since the scandal, and admits he was in a really dark place at the time of the incident due to his substance abuse issues.
He says, "At first alcohol was like a crutch outside of Dior. Then I would use it to crash after the collections. I'd take a couple of days to get over it, like everyone. But with more collections, the crash happened more often, and then I was a slave to it. Then the pills kicked in because I couldn't sleep. Then the other pills kicked in because I couldn't stop shaking. I would also have these huge bottles of liquor that people got for me. Towards the end, it was whatever I could get my hands on. Vodka or vodka-and-tonic... But I never for one second would admit I was an alcoholic. I thought I could control it."
British catwalk star Campbell, who once struggled with her own drug problems, stood by Galliano and even helped reserve a spot for him at a rehab centre in Arizona, where he spent six weeks undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Evangelista was one of his first visitors. She says, "I just didn't want that weekend to go by without anyone reaching out to him."
When he was released, Moss hired Galliano to design her wedding dress for her nuptials to Jamie Hince. She explains, "When my dad gave his speech he thanked everyone and then he referred to the genius of Galliano, who made his daughter's dress. Everyone stood up and gave John a standing ovation. It was the most moving thing, because suddenly John realised he wasn't on his own."
Disgraced fashion designer John Galliano was physically ill when he watched a video of his infamous anti-Semitic rant because he felt so sickened by his behaviour. Galliano was thrown into a downward spiral when he was arrested for launching a racist tirade at a couple during a night out in France in 2010, and he was subsequently fired from his position as head designer at Christian Dior in 2011.
The fashion mogul, who battled alcohol and drug addiction for many years before the incident, insists he does not remember the expletive-filled rant and was physically sick when he was shown a video.
Galliano tells Vanity Fair magazine, "I have been trying to find out why that anger was directed at this race. I now realise that I was so f**king angry and so discontent with myself that I just said the most spiteful thing I could...
"When everyone came over to tell me that I had done these terrible things, I was walking round and round not really knowing what had gone down (happened). My assistant told me about the video. When I saw it, I threw up..."
Galliano checked into a rehab facility in Arizona in 2011 to kick his addictions for good, and he is convinced the scandal was the wake up call he needed to get his life back on track.
He adds, "It sounds a bit bizarre, but I am so grateful for what did happen. I have learnt so much about myself. I have rediscovered the little boy who had the hunger to create, which I think I had lost. I am alive."
Keira Knightley's ex-boyfriend Jamie Dornan is convinced his good looks held him back when he made the move from model to actor because British casting bosses refuse to hire catwalk stars. The 31-year-old Northern Irish hunk, who has modelled for designers including Calvin Klein and Christian Dior, has appeared in U.S. fantasy series Once Upon a Time and landed a lead role opposite The X Files actress Gillian Anderson in BBC drama The Fall.
However, Dornan insists he has struggled to land acting roles in the U.K. because of his modelling work.
He tells Britain's Red magazine, "Modelling doesn't hold you back in L.A. at all. In L.A., they don't think that because you leant (sic) against walls and looked depressed while someone took your photograph, it means you can't act. In the U.K., there's a massive stigma attached to it. You couldn't possibly have had your photograph taken for a living and act."
Dornan met Knightley on a photoshoot in 2003 and they dated for two years before their split.
Disgraced designer John Galliano's scheduled master class at a top New York City fashion school has been scrapped after he refused to be quizzed about the scandal which wrecked his career. The fashion mogul lost his job as head designer at Christian Dior following an anti-Semitic rant at a couple during a night out in Paris in 2011.
He has recently started to rebuild his reputation by working for Oscar de la Renta on a temporary contract and he agreed to run a three-day workshop at Parsons The New School for Design for a series of sessions called Show Me Emotion.
Bosses at the college promised students would get the chance to have a "frank conversation" with Galliano on the "challenges and complications" of running a top fashion house, but they have now announced the course has been cancelled after the designer refused to take part in the forum.
An email from the college to students reads, "It was a condition of our agreeing to host Mr Galliano that we also hold a larger forum, which would include frank discussion of his career. Ultimately, an agreement could not be reached with Mr Galliano regarding the details of that forum, and so the program will not move forward. While we understand the pressures Mr Galliano faces, we expected to invite students, faculty and staff to ask Mr Galliano how his trajectory as a designer was changed by his offensive remarks and to learn from that example."
Disgraced designer John Galliano is heading back to school after signing up to teach a three-day master class at a top New York institution. The fashion mogul plunged into a downward spiral in 2011 when he was accused of hurling anti-Semitic remarks at a couple during a night out in Paris, France and the controversy cost him his job as head designer at Christian Dior.
He is slowly working on a comeback and has now agreed to share his fashion knowledge with students at Parsons The New School for Design in the Big Apple in a series of sessions called Show Me Emotion.
The decision to hire the shamed 52 year old sparked criticism online on Monday (22Apr13), but educators have defended their plans to recruit Galliano as a lecturer.
A statement from the college to New York Magazine reads, "An invaluable part of a Parsons education is the opportunity to learn from the world's leading designers, from Donna Karan and Diane Von Furstenberg to Olivier Theyskens. The planned master class with John Galliano will be a dynamic and intimate opportunity for our students to learn from an immensely talented designer.
"We believe that over the past two years Galliano has demonstrated a serious intent to make amends for his past actions, and as part of this workshop, Parsons students will have the opportunity to engage in a frank conversation with Mr. Galliano about the challenges and complications of leading a design house in the 21st century."
Finally, Channing Tatum's torso gets its due: After getting snubbed all award season long, the genius (and abs) of Magic Mike managed to garner three separate nominations for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. While the list of nominees includes plenty of expected names (America's BFF Jennifer Lawrence, America's annoying theater kid Anne Hathaway, America's hot dad Ben Affleck), it also includes several fan-favorite selections that weren't quite Oscar-worthy (Perks of Being a Wallflower, Pitch Perfect).
Leading the honors with seven nominations each are Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, followed by Silver Linings Playbook with six nominations and The Dark Knight Rises with five. Rounding out the most-nominated films are The Avengers, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Pitch Perfect, and Skyfall with four each. Check out the full list of nominations below:

The style guru was convicted of racial abuse and fined following allegations he hurled an anti-Semitic tirade at a couple during a night out in Paris, France in February, 2011.
The controversy cost him his job as head designer at Christian Dior, as well as his role at the helm of his eponymous label, which is majority-owned by Dior.
He appeared before an employment hearing in Paris, France on Monday (04Feb13), where his lawyers claimed he should not have been dismissed as he was struggling with addictions to prescription pills and alcohol.
The initial hearing was deemed a victory by Galliano's lawyers after court officials decided to look into the case in more detail instead of sending it to a higher court, which lawyers for the fashion house had wanted.
Galliano's lawyer Chantal Giraud-van Gaver says, "I am satisfied because Dior's request has been rejected, and our arguments have been upheld."
Bosses at Dior have been granted 15 days to accept the ruling or appeal.
The Hunger Games star hit headlines for the wrong reasons at the SAG ceremony in Los Angeles last Sunday (27Jan13) when her Christian Dior gown fell apart as she went up to collect a Best Actress prize for her turn in Silver Linings Playbook.
Lawrence saw a video clip of the incident for the first time when it was played to her during an appearance on Piers Morgan's U.S. talk show on Thursday night (31Jan13).
She urged the presenter not to play the clip, saying, "Oh, God. Don't do it. Don't play it... Oh my God. Oh my God. I haven't seen this yet. No."
Lawrence then screeched and covered her face with her hands when she saw the moment the bottom tier of the dress fell away and exposed her thighs.
She went on to explain someone accidentally tripped her up when she was walking to the stage, and that may have caused the embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.
The actress adds, "My pants fell off... Somebody trips me on the way. I remember that... I got tripped... (then) it (the dress) starts to fall off. And then I'm keeping it together, keeping it together. And then my pants fall off again... It was a tiered dress."
Lawrence came into the interview late after taping on another talk show overran so she agreed to stay behind after the show ended to record the rest of the chat, which will be aired on Friday (01Feb13).
"The dress is made with different levels of tulle and satin and that is what the viewers saw when Jennifer lifted her dress slightly. It was not ripped and there was no malfunction... It was the design of the gown." Christian Dior bosses release a statement dismissing reports suggesting Jennifer Lawrence's couture dress ripped at Sunday night's (27Jan13) SAG Awards ceremony.
The actress attended the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (27Jan13) and scooped the prestigious award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her turn in Silver Linings Playbook.
However, Lawrence's big moment was almost ruined when she stood up to walk to the stage and the bottom half of her Christian Dior dress detached and slipped down, leaving her thighs on display.
The embarrassing moment was caught on camera, but the actress gamely smiled as she adjusted the garment to spare her blushes before taking to the stage.
