"The dress is made with different levels of tulle and satin and that is what the viewers saw when Jennifer lifted her dress slightly. It was not ripped and there was no malfunction... It was the design of the gown." Christian Dior bosses release a statement dismissing reports suggesting Jennifer Lawrence's couture dress ripped at Sunday night's (27Jan13) SAG Awards ceremony.
The actress attended the ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (27Jan13) and scooped the prestigious award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her turn in Silver Linings Playbook.
However, Lawrence's big moment was almost ruined when she stood up to walk to the stage and the bottom half of her Christian Dior dress detached and slipped down, leaving her thighs on display.
The embarrassing moment was caught on camera, but the actress gamely smiled as she adjusted the garment to spare her blushes before taking to the stage.
The fashion mogul fell from grace after he was accused of hurling anti-Semitic abuse at a couple during a night out in Paris, France in February, 2011. His arrest, and the subsequent court case, cost him his job as head designer at Christian Dior.
Galliano admitted he was battling a drink problem and has spent the last two years recovering, and now he is set to get back to work with a job at Oscar de la Renta's studio in New York.
De la Renta says, "John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent. He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to re-immerse himself in the world of fashion and reacclimate (sic) in an environment where he has been so creative."
Galliano adds, "I am an alcoholic. I have been in recovery for the past two years... I have expressed my sorrow privately and publicly for the pain which I caused, and I continue to do so. I remain committed to making amends to those I have hurt. I am grateful to Oscar beyond words for inviting me to spend time with him in the familiar surroundings of a design studio. His support and faith in me is humbling."
The style guru was offered the role of creative director at the French fashion house after John Galliano was fired following his arrest for hurling anti-Semitic insults during a drunken rant in Paris in 2011.
Jacobs, who heads the Louis Vuitton brand, as well as his eponymous clothing lines, brought up the job with his shrink, who made him think about the consequences of taking on such a highly-publicised role.
In WWD, he is quoted as saying, "It was actually my psychiatrist who said, 'How is this going to improve the quality of your life?' and I said, 'It's not.' I mean, two more shows - and after Galliano, what he has done - when am I going to live my life?
"(I) never dreamed of being a couturier... it would be a very difficult place to work."
Belgian Raf Simons was eventually drafted in to take over from Galliano last year (12).
The Twilight hunk will follow in the footsteps of fellow Brit Jude Law by starring in a series of advertising campaigns for the French fashion house.
And Pattinson will certainly be smelling success with the lucrative contract, which is believed to be worth an estimated $12 million (£7.5 million) for three years.
A source tells EOnline.com, "Rob likes the brand."
Hollywood A-listers Charlize Theron and Natalie Portman have appeared in commercials for Dior perfume, while Pattinson's girlfriend Kristen Stewart endorses Balenciaga's Florabotanica perfume.
The director has made TV advertisements for products by sports brand Nike, car manufacturers BMW and Corvette, and Christian Dior fragrance Dior Homme, which featured his Sherlock Holmes star Jude Law.
And he admits he jumps at the chance to work with brand executives who are eager to throw big money at him, because he gets to test out the most technologically-advanced gadgets and processes.
In a new interview with his Snatch star Brad Pitt for Interview magazine, Ritchie reveals, "That's where the real technical talent lies. There aren't many movies where you can spend $3 million on one minute, so when I do a commercial, I can go balls-out and play around with toys and try out new stuff.
"I do use it as a bit of a tester... But the commercial guys are actually more open to the idea of f**king around with stuff and they don't mind if you hit a post because it's so cutting-edge. Commercials will always be technically more advanced than movies. It's a funny thing, but they're also so much more efficient. So I try to do one commercial a year just for that reason."
Advertising Standards Agency officials have barred the Black Swan star's Diorshow New Look Lash-Multiplying Mascara campaign from publication.
According to their ruling, the firm set up unrealistic expectations for buyers by failing to back up written claims the product has a "spectacular volume-multiplying effect".
Fashion chiefs, who have since confessed to digitally replacing several of the actress' damaged lashes to improve the overall look of the image, have now been ordered to amend the ad.
The Hunger Games star will front the 2013 spring/summer advertising campaign for Miss Dior and the 21 year old insists she is delighted to represent the brand.
She tells Women's Wear Daily, "It's such a dream to represent an iconic brand that is synonymous with high fashion."
And executives are just as excited about working with the Oscar nominee.
Creative director Raf Simons says, "Like everyone else, I first discovered Jennifer Lawrence in the roles she played in action movies. I was, of course, struck by her incredible onscreen presence in these blockbuster films, but also impressed by her powerful interpretations of subtler, more rounded characters.
"Her youth and her classic beauty, but also her force of character and the complexity she's capable of embodying at such a young age, are, for me, both unique and very moving."
Black Swan star Kunis recently shot ads for the firm's 2012 autumn/winter line.
The fallen fashion king was arrested in February, 2011, over allegations he became embroiled in a bust-up in Paris, France, and had shouted insults.
He was subsequently fired from his job as head designer at Christian Dior, fined $8,428 (GBP5,268) and charged for his behaviour, and now the star has been dealt another blow after French officials decided to revoke his Legion d'Honneur medal which Galliano received in 2009 for his contributions to haute couture.
The decree was signed by French President Francois Hollande and published in the country's official journal on Thursday (23Aug12).
What do you get the girl who has everything? Designer high heels, purses, party dresses, privacy (just kidding!)... Suri Cruise has it all. Still, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter turns six years old today, so her A-list parents will have to get creative. What could one gift Suri on her big day? Here are some ideas — though they'd need to stock up on lots of gift wrap.
1. A Small Country
Suri may already be the ruler of the younger generation of Hollywood's elite families — but she has yet to add a real title to her name. They say that anything can be bought for a price, so why don't Cruise and Holmes charge a small country to their credit cards for their little girl? Welcome to Suri-Land: Live (Not For) Free and Die Over the Fact that a Child Has a Ferragamo Purse.
2. Crown Jewels Suri already has the ballgowns and Cinderella slippers. (And we know she wouldn't be happy with a pumpkin.) Now all she needs are the Crown Jewels to accessorize her ever-changing outfits. So she's not only Tom's little princess. 3. Her Own Star No, we're not talking about Ursa Major. (Though Tom probably knows some folks that could make that happen.) At six, Suri is one of the few A-list toddlers in Hollywood. (Shiloh Jolit-Pitt leads the Brangelina six-pack for a close second.) But Suri lacks the one necessary asset to make her a true Hollywood star — a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her dad already has one, and her mom is sure to get one soon (well, if Dawson's Creek ever enjoys a movie reunion). But a frighteningly runway-ready walk doesn't quite qualify a young celebrity for a star. Still, she should get one anyway... just for wearing heels better than we ever will. 4. The House of Suri Gabrielle "Coco" Bonheur Chanel did it. So did Christian Dior, Gianni Versace, and Giorgio Armani. So why not Suri Cruise? The House of Suri sure does have a nice ring to it. Of course, there is a problem: It is difficult for a six-year-old to launch a fashion business. Then again, look at Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's mini-empire and eventual Elizabeth and James line. The idea that we might be able to (never in our lives) afford a Suri-designed dress for a child more focused on banging a pot with a spoon than her wardrobe? Have mercy!
5. A Free Stress Test You would need one too if you spent your days hiding under blankets to avoid the paparazzi. Maybe it's time for Suri to go a vacation. Tom, fire up your private jet! 6. The Suri Song If Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton have released singles without any discernible talent, why can't Suri? For her song, let's try a simple remix of J.Lo's "Louboutins" combined with the Barney theme song. If the beats are fast enough, maybe Willow Smith can whip her hair back and forth in the music video.
