Singer Kelly Clarkson has recruited her mother-in-law Reba Mcentire and celebrity friends like Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood for a star-studded holiday benefit concert in Nashville, Tennessee. The Since U Been Gone hitmaker will headline a concert called Miracle on Broadway on 20 December (14) at the country music capital's Bridgestone Arena.
Clarkson called on her superstar pals to serve as special guests for the evening, and it will be an eclectic mix with stars also including Ronnie Dunn, Kacey Musgraves, Paramore's Hayley Williams and pop sensation Meghan Trainor.
The stars will cover Christmas classics and also join Clarkson for tracks from her platinum-selling holiday album, Wrapped in Red.
Texas native Clarkson hopes the event will become an annual concert in her adopted Nashville.
A statement reads: "I love my adopted hometown of Nashville with all of my heart, and I am so honored to be able to give back to the community alongside some of my favorite artists and friends for my first annual Miracle on Broadway benefit concert.
"I thank all of the artists joining me, as well as the people of Nashville for making me feel so welcome over the last seven years.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit local organisations.
Celebrities including Whoopi Goldberg, Johnny Depp and Hugh Jackman have paid tribute to veteran comedienne Joan Rivers following her death on Thursday (04Sep14). The legendary funnywoman, 81, died at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital after she was removed from life support following a cardiac and respiratory arrest on 28 August (14).
Her daughter Melissa announced that her mum passed away just after 1pm local time, and celebrities have been paying tribute to Rivers ever since.
Fellow comedienne and longtime pal Whoopi Goldberg took to Twitter.com to share her condolences, and wrote, "My friend Joan Rivers has passed away once again to quote Billy Crystal... There are no words. Bon Voyage Joan."
News of Rivers' death comes weeks after Goldberg also paid tribute to another close friend, Robin Williams, who died last month (Aug14).
Australian actor Jackman lauded Rivers' comedic presence and wrote, "We lost one of the true originals today. Joan Rivers. A force. You will be missed," while Depp called her "An Amazing Individual", and Mel Brooks wrote, "Joan Rivers never played it safe. She was the bravest of them all. Still at the top at the end. She will be sorely missed."
Other tributes from Zoe Saldana and British comedian Ricky Gervais hit Twitter, and rocker Ozzy Osbourne thanked the late comic for being kind to his daughter Kelly - Rivers' co-host on TV show Fashion Police. He wrote, "Not only was Joan a comic genius, she was an amazing woman. Thank you for always having Kelly’s back. You will always be a legend. RIP."
Celebrities also brought levity to the tragedy of her death, recalling catty remarks Rivers had made about them on awards show red carpets. Actress Anna Kendrick said, "Being publicly told that my dress is hideous will never feel quite as awesome. You will be truly missed", singer Demi Lovato added, "RIP Joan Rivers... You made fun of my boobies just last week and it was an HONOR," and pop star Katy Perry joked, "What's the point of wearing all these dumb costumes if Joan's not here to rip them apart? RIP Joan Rivers. You are a one of a one."
Former Charmed star Rose McGowan recalled that "Joan once said I looked like a whore," and Evan Rachel Wood shared a similar sentiment, and remembered, "She once said I looked like I needed a trip to the VD (venereal disease) clinic..." before adding, "The day I was ridiculed by Joan Rivers for the way I looked was the day I felt like i made it in Hollywood."
Girls star and creator Lena Dunham even poked fun at Rivers' self-depricating extensive plastic surgery, and quipped, "I told (comedian Marc) Maron I'd have a zinger when Joan died. But I didn't think she ever would. She felt eternal, and anyway, zingers are her territory. That being said, Joan is gone but a piece of her lives on: her nose, because it's made of polyurethane."
A plethora of comedians also shared their praise for Rivers, including Kathy Griffin, Roseanne Barr, Ellen DeGeneres, Sarah Silverman, Chris Rock, Cedric the Entertainer, Wanda Sykes, Arsenio Hall, Tim Allen and Kevin Hart, as well as celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, Boy George, Samuel L. Jackson, Nancy Sinatra, La Toya Jackson, Martha Stewart, Naomi Campbell, Brad Paisley, Alec Baldwin, Josh Groban, Maria Shriver, Simon Pegg, William Shatner, Ariana Grande, Vanessa Williams, Julianne Moore and John Stamos.

The musical adaptation of Johnny Depp's hit Peter Pan film Finding Neverland is officially flying onto the Broadway stage. The production, based on the 2004 movie, in which Depp played Peter Pan creator J. M. Barrie opposite Kate Winslet, will debut at a Nederlander Organisation theatre in March 2015, according to the show's spokesperson. Finding Neverland centres on Barrie and the family which inspired him to write about the boy who never grew up. The musical, which is produced by Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein, opened at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts earlier this week (begs11Aug14) to positive reviews. Jeremy Jordan and Laura Michelle Kelly are currently starring in the Cambridge production, but it is not yet known if the pair will be part of the Broadway show. There's quite a resurgence of all things Pan at the moment - English director Joe Wright is adapting an origins story, featuring Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund and Amanda Seyfried, for the big screen, and Girls star Allison Williams was recently cast as Peter Pan in a live TV version of the tale, which will debut in the U.S. at Christmas (Dec14). And of course, one of Hollywood's most beloved Peter Pans, Robin Williams, died earlier this week (11Aug14). He played Barrie's Pan in Steven Spielberg's Hook.

Superstar Beyonce has made reference to the infamous elevator fight between her husband Jay Z and sister Solange Knowles in May (14) in a new song featuring Nicki Minaj.
The trio hit headlines earlier this year (14) when surveillance footage emerged showing Knowles lashing out at her brother-in-law Jay Z as they left a party at a New York hotel following the Met Gala.
The Drunk In Love hitmaker later issued a statement insisting her husband and younger sister had "worked through" their disagreement, while Knowles recently claimed she was "at peace" with the incident.
Both siblings stopped short of revealing the reason for the bust-up, but late on Saturday (02Aug14), Beyonce released a remix to her song Flawless, featuring Minaj, in which she brushes off the incident, singing, "We escalate, up in this b**ch like elevators/Of course sometimes s**t go down when there's a billion dollars on an elevator (sic)."
R. Kelly has been dropped from an upcoming music festival in Ohio following a slew of complaints over his controversial past.
Kelly was set to perform as the headliner at the Fashion Meets Music Festival in Columbus in August (14), but he has now been dropped from the line-up following a storm of protest on Twitter.com and Facebook.com.
The news came after local bands Damn the Witch Siren and Saintseneca, along with several sponsors, pulled out of the event over Kelly's involvement.
In a post on Twitter.com, the festival's organisers announced they have "decided to part ways" with the controversial R&B star, with local paper The Columbus Dispatch quoting festival spokesperson Melissa Dickson as saying, "We wanted to make sure we heard the Columbus listeners... to make a statement and support the city we live in."
Kelly's publicist also released a statement, saying, "R. Kelly is sorry to disappoint his fans but looks forward to seeing them in the near future during one of his upcoming tours."
Kelly was indicted in 2002 on charges of making child pornography, but was acquitted in 2008.
The remaining headliners of the festival include O.A.R. and Michelle Williams.
Two bands have cancelled their sets at an upcoming Ohio music festival over headliner R. Kelly's past allegations of sexual violence and assault. Ohio-based bands Damn the Witch Siren and Saintseneca recently announced they have axed their gigs at the upcoming Fashion Meets Music Festival in Columbus in August (14) after festival organisers revealed the controversial R&B singer is one of the headlining acts.
Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of child pornography, based on a sex tape he allegedly made with an underage girl in 2002, and although he was later cleared of all charges, the case has proven to tarnish his reputation.
The band members of Saintseneca are among those who won't let Kelly forget about the scandal, explaining their decision to quit the gig in a statement which reads: "We feel R. Kelly's selection as a performer ignores his very serious allegations of sexual violence and assault.
"We feel it is an affront to all survivors, who are already often overlooked and forgotten in our society."
The musicians also announced plans to hold an alternative concert to benefit victims of sexual assault.
In addition to the bands, bosses at local radio station WCBE 90.5 FM decided to pull their sponsorship of the event, also citing Kelly's participation in the festival.
Fashion Meets Music Festival co-founder Bret Adams has defended adding Kelly to the bill, noting that the singer was acquitted in 2008, and adding, "We're not the morality police."
The inaugural music festival also features fellow headliners O.A.R. and Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams.
Former Destiny'S Child star Farrah Franklin has been released on bail following an early morning arrest in South Carolina on Sunday (20Jul14). The singer was booked for disorderly conduct, according to TMZ.com.
Details of her arrest are unclear, but Franklin was released on Sunday afternoon.
Franklin was briefly a member of Beyonce's girl group before she was dismissed in 2000, leaving the group a trio with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
The members of Destiny'S Child have reunited for Michelle Williams' new video. Williams recorded new track Say Yes! with Beyonce and Kelly Rowland last month (May14), and now the trio has regrouped for the accompanying promo.
At first it appears the threesome shot their scenes separately, but the former bandmates' reunion comes together as the ladies dance with one another at a party.
Williams says, "We had so much fun. Sometimes the director or production assistants had to say, like, 'OK, girls, bring it back home. Bring it back together'. When we were together, we go back to how we were when we were younger, just always laughing and talking about things. It's been a great moment."
The track will appear on Williams' upcoming third solo album, Journey to Freedom.
Newlywed R&B star Kelly Rowland has confirmed rumours she is pregnant with her first child. The former Destiny's Child singer sparked speculation she was hiding a baby bump on Saturday (07Jun14), when she performed at a concert in Oklahoma wearing an uncharacteristically over-sized outfit.
She has since gone public with her pregnancy secret by taking to Instagram.com on Tuesday (10Jun14) to share a photo of her man's Air Jordan sneakers, alongside a matching infant-sized pair. In the accompanying caption, she writes, "I'll be stuntin (sic) like my daddy..."
The news comes a month after Rowland married her manager Tim Witherspoon in a private ceremony in Costa Rica, which was attended by her former bandmates Beyonce and Michelle Williams.
Rowland's kid will be the second Destiny's Child baby - Beyonce is mother to two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.
"I believe in soulmates... I have soulmates through Beyonce and Michelle... I'm so thankful for that too, because I think they understand you. If there's something on my heart or my mind, before I can even pick up the phone, one of them is calling me saying, 'What are you doing? Are you OK?'. We're connected and I think that's such a beautiful thing. It's the greatest gift you can have." R&B star Kelly Rowland counts her former Destiny's Child bandmates Beyonce and Michelle Williams among her closest pals. She also named Beyonce's sister Solange Knowles, cousin Angie Beyince and TV personality LaLa Anthony as her other soulmates.
