"I've changed my ways. Now I'm known as a guy who used to be known as a horrible, horrible womaniser... I don't even like the word womaniser; I prefer the word serial promise remover. Back in my dirty dog days, I needed a 'clear history' button for my whole house; it was called my doorbell. I used to have to do the pre-cleaning lady pre-clean. There's certain things nobody should see, not even me." Former bad boy John Mayer pokes fun at his wild reputation from his youth during a guest-hosting stint on America's The Late Late Show on Thursday night (05Feb15). The rocker, who is reportedly back with on/off girlfriend Katy Perry, previously dated Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift.
Actor Courtney B. Vance has been cast as O.J. Simpson's lawyer Johnnie Cochran in much-anticipated TV drama series American Crime Story: The People V. O.j. Simpson. The Tony Award winner will portray Simpson's flamboyant defence attorney in the show, which will centre around the sports star's 1995 murder trial, during which the former football star was controversially acquitted of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
Simpson's defence "dream team" will be rounded out by John Travolta, who will play Robert Shapiro, and former Friends star David Schwimmer, who will take on the roll of Simpson's late friend and attorney, Robert Kardashian.
Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. will portray Simpson, while actress Sarah Paulson has been cast as prosecutor Marcia Clark.
The series will be executive produced by Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy.
Cochran passed away in 2005.
Singer Katy Perry and rocker John Mayer have reportedly rekindled their on/off relationship after nearly a year apart. The former couple split last February (14), but were spotted together again at a restaurant in the Sunset Tower Hotel in California on Thursday (08Jan15), sparking rumours of a romantic reunion.
A source tells the New York Post, "Katy Perry and John Mayer walked in together, arm in arm, and the whole room literally fell silent.
"Even Dimitri Dimitrov - Hollywood's most famous maitre d', who has seen everything - and Sunset Tower owner Jeff Klein, both stopped mid-sentence when John and Katy arrived, as if they wanted to announce to everyone in Hollywood they are back together."
The meal in public reportedly took place days after they attended a friend's dinner in Los Angeles last weekend (03-04Jan15).
Perry and Mayer initially began dating in 2012, following her divorce from comedian Russell Brand.
They split briefly in 2013, but revived their romance before calling off the relationship again last year (14).
Perry allegedly moved on to date producer Diplo, while Mayer remained largely out of the spotlight in 2014.
The rocker was previously linked to Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Taylor Swift.
John Travolta is returning to TV to portray real-life defence attorney Robert Shapiro in American Crime Story: The People V. O.j. Simpson. The Pulp Fiction actor, who became a household name in America for his TV hit Welcome Back Kotter, will star alongside Cuba Gooding, Jr., who has been cast as Simpson in the drama.
The new TV project from Glee creator Ryan Murphy will centre on the former U.S. football player's murder trial. Simpson was accused and acquitted of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1995.
Travolta will also serve as a producer on the mini-series.
Actress Sarah Paulson has also been cast as prosecutor Marcia Clark and former Friends star David Schwimmer will portray Simpson's late friend and attorney, Robert Kardashian.
R&B star Chris Brown led the way at the 2014 Soul Train Awards on Sunday (30Nov14) by taking home three prizes thanks to his hit song Loyal. The embattled singer had a night to remember by winning Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year, Best Dance Performance, and Best Collaboration for his track with Lil Wayne and Tyga.
Brown even kicked off his big night with a medley of some of his greatest hits, including Yo (Excuse Me Miss), Poppin' Take You Down, New Flame, and award-winning Loyal.
Behind Brown with two awards each were Beyonce, who was feted with the Best R&B/Soul Female Artist accolade and Album of the Year for her acclaimed self-titled album, and Pharrell Williams, whose hit Happy was named Song of the Year and Video of the Year.
Other winners included Trey Songz (Best R&B/Soul Male Artist), John Legend (Record of the Year/The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter's Award for All of Me), and Nico & Vinz (Best New Artist).
Meanwhile, disco band Kool & the Gang were honoured with the Soul Train Lifetime Achievement Award, and artists such as Doug E. Fresh, Elle Varner, MC Lyte, Tamar Braxton, Joe, and Mase took to the stage to perform songs from the group's catalogue spanning 50 years in the business.
However, the highlights of the night came from R&B group Jodeci, who reunited for the first time since 2006 and sang a medley of their hit songs, while Lil Kim, Missy Elliot and Da Brat closed out the ceremony with their 1997 track Not Tonight, with a special segment devoted their late collaborator Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes.
The TLC star, who died in 2002, was featured in a video performing her part in the song which was projected onto a big screen during the rendition.
U.S. talk show host Wendy Williams hosted the event at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The awards were handed out on 7 November (14), but televised on Sunday.
Actress Katherine Heigl once tried to make singer Josh Kelley jealous by suggesting she was interested in dating rocker John Mayer.
The Knocked Up star reveals she told a little white lie to Kelley early on in their relationship in a bid to push him to commit and officially make her his girlfriend.
In an interview on America's The Meredith Vieira Show, which airs on Monday (24Nov14), she explains, "Around the same time I met Josh, I also met John Mayer. John Mayer and I are from neighbouring towns and knew some of the same people. My Josh had gone off on tour and was playing hard to get. So I didn't know - are we a thing? Are we a couple?"
Heigl, who met Kelley in 2005 when she was cast as his love interest in his Only You video, claims there was never anything romantic about her friendship with Mayer, but she had no problem playing up the prospect with the man who would later become her husband.
She continues, "These musicians, they are competitive and jealous of each other. (So) over the phone, because he was on tour, I was like, 'Josh, I've got to be honest. I just want to know where we stand because if not, I might try to pursue something with John.'"
Her ploy worked and the couple started properly dating, before marrying in 2009.
She adds, "(I confessed) probably a year into our marriage. I was like, 'You got played!'"
Mayer is known for his high-profile romances after previously dating famous females including Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
Actor John Krasinski and British funnyman Stephen Merchant are teaming up with U.S. comedian Jimmy Fallon to launch a new TV lip-syncing battle series. TV host Fallon has had both actors on his previous Late Night With Jimmy Fallon programme to take part in the comedy segment, which featured celebrities miming their favourite songs.
Merchant took part in one of the most popular instalments with Joseph Gordon-Levitt last year (13), racking up over 33 million views on YouTube.com, and now he has joined forces with Fallon and The Office star Krasinski to turn the idea into an original show for U.S. network Spike TV.
The trio will serve as executive producers of Lip Sync Battle, and will also compete against other stars, going head-to-head for bragging rights.
The 30-minute shows will tape in New York in January (15) ahead of an April (15) premiere.
Fallon announced the news during an interview with Merchant on his late-night programme, The Tonight Show, on Thursday (20Nov14), when Ricky Gervais' comedy partner admitted his 'renditions' of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's Boom Shake the Room and Beyonce's Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) had won him more recognition than any of his TV or movie work.
The Office co-creator and Hot Fuzz actor said, "(I'm known for) a myriad of things. Well, you'd think that were the case, but really, the only thing that anyone recognises me for, is the lip-syncing nonsense. That's all I get recognised for!
"I wander the streets, with all those credits just floating around, and they go, 'Lip-sync guy! Lip-sync guy, yeah! Do the funny dance!' It's great and I'm pleased that it went well and everyone saw it, and there was like, millions of views, and that's all great, but you don't wanna just be remembered for some stupid thing you did.
"It's like O.J. Simpson or something. Every day he must wake up and think, 'Jeez, you're involved in one double homicide... trial, just one trial and suddenly no one remembers I was in the Naked Gun!' I'm not saying the lip-syncing was quite as bad as that, but it's up there!"
Family and friends of jazz legend Acker Bilk brought the village of Publow in Somerset, England to a standstill on Thursday (13Nov14) as they said their farewells to the musician and poet. Bilk, who lived in nearby Pensford, died at the beginning of the month (02Nov14) and his final gig took place at All Saints Church, where hundreds of mourners gathered to say goodbye to the beloved clarinet player.
Canon John Simpson, who officiated the funeral service, told those gathered he knew the Stranger on the Shore hitmaker personally, adding, "He was always most welcoming and friendly".
Bilk's composition Aria was played as his coffin was carried out of the church and a poem he wrote about the nearby River Chew was read during the service.
Filmmaker J.J. Abrams took a break from making the new Star Wars film last week (ends07Nov14) to star in a fish-flying skit for comedian John Oliver's U.S. TV show Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.
The British comic was covering a news report about salmon transportation and decided to shoot fake fish from a gun.
U.S. soap stars and fellow TV personalities Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, Jon Stewart and Anderson Cooper all appeared in the skit and were hit by fish, as was The Simpsons' Homer Simpson in an animated segment and Tom Hanks, who was recording a public service announcement. But Oliver outdid himself when Abrams was hit by a salmon as he chatted with robot R2-D2 on the Star Wars: Episode VII film set.
The disgusted director stormed off saying, "I quit. I can't work like this!"
Last Week With John Oliver aired on Sunday night (09Nov14) in America.
We may have discovered photographic evidence of the most adorable playdate in history. Thank you, Jessica Simpson:
