Monjack's mother-in-law, Sharon Murphy, found him unconscious in the Hollywood Hills home he once shared with his late wife on Sunday (23May10). Paramedics determined he had suffered a cardiac arrest and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Monjack's representative, Roger Neal, revealed the overweight Brit was in need of heart bypass surgery when he died.
Officials have since concluded there were "no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved" in Monjack's death, although the cause won't be known until results from toxicology tests are returned.
But the actress' sibling, Tony Bertolotti, admits he suspected something was wrong in the Monjack/Murphy household prior to his death, although he refuses to go into further details.
He tells the National Enquirer, "I wasn't shocked to be honest. The guy was insane."
Clueless star Murphy, Sharon's daughter with Angelo Bertolotti, died at the same Hollywood property in December (09).
Monjack will be buried beside the tragic actress at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles on Thursday (27May10).
British screenwriter SIMON MONJACK will be buried next to his actress wife BRITTANY MURPHY on Thursday (27May10). The tragic couple will lie side by side at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Monjack died from a suspected heart attack on Sunday (23May10), five months after Murphy died at the Hollywood home they shared.
The actress' mother, Sharon, found Monjack unconscious in the master bedroom of the Hollywood Hills home he once shared with his late wife, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Los Angeles police have launched an investigation into the 39-year-old Brit's passing, but officials announced on Monday (24May10) there were "no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved".
Medication prescribed to Monjack was found on the property but the Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter has refused to comment on reports suggesting the writer suffered a drug overdose until results from toxicology tests are returned.
However, Monjack's spokesman, Roger Neal, doubts there is any truth to the overdose claims, because the Brit had been putting off heart surgery for some time.
Neal tells People.com, "I don't believe he had an overdose... Simon needed a (heart) bypass.
"I was told he needed a bypass, and I said to him, 'Simon, you have so much going on, let's keep you healthy.' I said, 'You want to be healthy. Don't you?' He said yes, but he said, 'The bypass can wait.' I don't know how much of an emergency it was. The doctors would have made him get it immediately if he needed it, but Sharon confirmed with me he did need a bypass.
"As far as empty (pill) bottles, I don't know anything about that. If you have a heart condition you're going to have prescription medication for yourself. You're going to be on some kind of medicine."
Neal insists Monjack never released details of his condition to the press because he didn't want the extra media attention the news would attract.
The rep adds, "They didn’t make it public because he had so much going on."
Clueless star Murphy died at the same Hollywood Hills property in December (09).
Murphy's mother, Sharon, found the 39 year old unresponsive on Sunday night (23May10) in the master bedroom of the Hollywood Hills home he once shared with the late actress, who died in December (09).
Attempts to revive Monjack were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) have handed the case over to the L.A. Coroner's office.
LAPD spokesman Sergeant Alex Ortiz tells the Associated Press, "We concluded there (were) no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved."
But new reports emerging in Los Angeles suggest Monjack might have suffered a drug overdose. Officials have confirmed prescription medication was found at the property, and a source tells TMZ.com, "There were a number of pill bottles on the nightstand in the bedroom, and some were empty."
L.A. County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter insists the cause of Monjack's death won't be known until after a post-mortem examination and toxicology tests are carried out.
He says, "Mr. Monjack was found unresponsive, paramedics responded to the house, he was pronounced dead at 9.45pm (on) Sunday. There were some prescription drugs found that belonged to Mr. Monjack, and we'll have an ongoing investigation. Cause of death is pending, and there will be an autopsy after a day or so, and pending toxicology (reports), we'll be releasing the results after we get all those tests back.
"The family is devastated at this time, and it is under investigation. And I ask that you give the family some privacy at this point on."
Several stars have spoken out to pay tribute to the tragic moviemaker. In a post on her Twitter.com page, Lindsay Lohan writes, "R.I.P Simon Monjack," while pop star-turned-actor Luke Goss, who worked with Monjack early in his movie career, adds, "Simon shared his love of film with all of us on set. He gave me my first role in film and has remained a friend ever since. I am deeply saddened by his untimely death."
Murphy's mum Sharon is said to have called emergency services on Sunday night (23May10) after finding the screenwriter unconscious in the master bedroom of the Hollywood Hills property where the Clueless star died in December (09). He is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
Resuscitation efforts failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ETOnline.com.
Sergeant Louie Lozano of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) tells the website, "We have detectives at (the) scene. They are conducting their investigation."
The L.A. coroner ruled in February (10) that Murphy died after from pneumonia, complicated by anaemia and multiple drug intoxication.
She is said to have gone into cardiac arrest at the house she shared with Monjack and Sharon, and was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on 20 December (10).
Simon Monjack has passed away five months after the death of his wife, Brittany Murphy. He was 39.
The British screenwriter was found dead Sunday night in the house he and Murphy shared. Murphy’s mother, Sharon, called 911 after she discovered him unresponsive, according to The Hollywood Gossip.
People.com is reporting that the preliminary cause of Monjack’s death is natural causes.
The Clueless star's widower Simon Monjack reveals his late wife was obsessed with the idea of starting a family in the weeks before her death on 20 December (09).
He tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood, "That was the big obsession, to have a baby. We talked about it the night before she died.
"Naming our children was one of Brittany's greatest sports... If it was a boy, it was going to be Oliver and if it was a girl, it was going to be Sophie. That was her perfect life."
The actress died after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Hollywood Hills home.
Producer/photographer Simon Monjack was invited to attend the Oscars to witness the Academy's In Memoriam tribute to his late wife - and he was heavily criticised for showing up with another woman.
Monjack had planned on taking Murphy's mother Sharon to the Academy Awards but when she announced she was too sick to accompany him, the Brit asked his late wife's friend Hayley to be his guest.
He says, "(She was my wife's) dear friend, a childhood friend."
And he's appalled by the criticism that has been levelled at him.
In an exclusive interview with U.S. news show Access Hollywood, he says, "I've heard everything, and she is pretty... I wouldn't walk down the red carpet with a non-beautiful woman."
Monjack used the TV interview to clear up other "ridiculous" reports, linking him romantically to his mother-in-law, who lives with him.
He states, "We don't have sex, number one; number two she is a woman that has toxic neuropathy, which means she can barely walk. I live downstairs, she lives upstairs."
Eddie Bubar, who owns Eddie's Pharmacy, reveals he filled more than 100 prescriptions for the Clueless star, her husband Simon Monjack and her mum Sharon between January 2008 and August 2009 under various aliases.
The pharmacy boss has told investigators a courier picked the various prescriptions up in an envelope approximately every two weeks with the name 'Lola Manilow Murphy' written on it. He tells TMZ.com that Lola was Murphy's pseudonym.
Bubar cut the trio off four months before the actress' December (09) death, partly because he believed they were using multiple pharmacies to fill scripts, according to the website.
He says, "We thought there was going to be an accident there."
But Monjack insists he and his late wife were the ones who ended the relationship with Bubar and Eddie's Pharmacy.
Bubar's comments come just a day after Monjack told U.S. news show Access Hollywood he never saw his late wife use drugs, stating, "Brittany was someone that had never used a drug in her life."
Medications were found in the actress' system at the time of her death, but her 20 December (09) death has been ruled an accident following an autopsy.
British producer/photographer Simon Monjack has revealed his late wife was barely alive when she arrived at hospital shortly after her mother found the actress unresponsive at home.
He tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood that medics warned him of the danger of trying to keep her alive - but he couldn't allow them to switch off her life support system.
Monjack says, "The doctor came in and said, 'She'll be braindead, basically... What do you want me to do?' and I said, 'I want you to keep going...' and then... he came in with the whole grieving team and said that Brittany hadn't made it."
Findings from an autopsy report have suggested 32-year-old Murphy passed away on 20 December (09) after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Hollywood Hills home. The tragedy was ruled accidental by officials at the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, with pneumonia listed as the primary cause of death.
