There’s no true grit to be found in James Mangold’s fun but safe Western remake. Nitpicking, however, is no way to treat a movie that gives us two heavyweights like Russell Crowe and Christian Bale on top of their games.

As one of the best noir crime thrillers since L.A. Confidential, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is also going to make you laugh and laugh.

Supported by an excellent performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote offers insight into the author and his idiosyncrasies and could perhaps shed a newfound respect for those of us who may remember Capote as only a creepy talk show gadfly. The man no doubt had a lot of talent, as a writer, a storyteller and a journalist.
