There’s no true grit to be found in James Mangold’s fun but safe Western remake. Nitpicking, however, is no way to treat a movie that gives us two heavyweights like Russell Crowe and Christian Bale on top of their games.

Every once in a while you need a movie like this to come crashing down on you. To shake you up, make you think about the world around you, and, one would hope, to open yourself up to the possibilities of our shared humanity.

Even though it may lack a human touch here and there, The Polar Express is still a brilliant effort in CGI-animation and will certainly evoke the Christmas spirit in us all.
