For many of us, daytime talk shows just aren’t all that exciting. Blogs have taken over the world and if we want to see bizarre people with strange family lives breaking down in front of a bunch of cameras, we have a plethora of reality shows to watch. There's also an entire young, hip, culturally diverse demographic that shows like The Talk just don't cater to. Enter The Real: a new daytime talk show for folks who could care less about daytime talk shows. After a very successful summer trial run, the show (starring Loni Love, Tamar Braxton, Tamera Mowry-Housley , Adrienne Bailon and Jeannie Mai) was picked up for a full season by Fox. In Fall 2014, we seriously recommend setting those DVRs. Here are a few reasons why you'll absolutely love The Real.
Loni Love Is Everything
The comedian who many folks will recognize from Chelsea Lately hosts the show, and if you’re not already a fan of hers you will be by the time you watch that pilot episode of The Real. Of all the ladies up there, we have to say that Loni probably keeps it the realest. Whether waxing poetic about food, sex, or Miley Cyrus she’s always on point and always hilarious.
There’s An Abundance of Chocolate And Fried Foods
The producers of this show know what women want: food. All of the time, with all of the calories. In its trial episodes, The Real never, ever featured a healthy eating section, where some chef came through and made asparagus and carrot smoothies. Instead the women indulged in fried desserts, crazy huge burgers, and then there was that strawberry pop-tart ice cream sandwich thing. EPIC!
The Hot Guys
Tyrese, Ginuwine, Morris Chestnut, Tank, Pauly D – these are just a few of the cuties who were guests on the show. Pretty much all of them ended up shirtless at some point, so that’s plenty reason to tune in next fall.
They Actually Do Keep It Real
Probably one of the greatest episodes of The Real (or of daytime television ever) was the one in which an entire conversation about weaves, wigs, tracks, and sew-in hair occurred. The women openly admitted to which ones they had tried, and what type they were currently rocking -- it was awesome. Another reason this show really works is because the ladies have a lot in common but also aren't afraid to disagree with one another and/or shut each other down; watching them give conflicting relationship advice to audience members makes for a great time. We get the sense that -- even though they're on tv and, granted, Adrienne's accent is a bit over the top -- these ladies are keeping it real with us. And for that, we thank them.
Rapper Ja Rule has landed his first movie role since completing his recent prison stint. The hip-hop hitmaker, who has landed jobs in several films including The Fast and the Furious and Scary Movie 3, served two years behind bars after pleading guilty in 2010 to attempted possession of a weapon, but now he's keen to move on with his life and get back to the big screen.
Ja Rule, real name Jeffrey Atkins, will play a drug dealer struggling to step away from his illegal lifestyle in I'm in Love With a Church Girl. Singer Adrienne Bailon will play his love interest, while Stephen Baldwin, The Sopranos actor Vincent Pastore and Michael Madsen will also appear in the film.
He says, "I've done a lot of films that all have been pretty edgy. I played thug characters, but, with this character, even though I play a thug somewhat, he's really a guy going through a transition."
Screenwriter Galley Molina, who spent five years in prison for drug trafficking, hired Atkins while his criminal charges were pending and reveals he empathised with the rapper.
He says, "People used to ask, 'Well, you know he's a felon?' And I would say, 'Well, so am I'."
Singer/actress-turned-TV host Adrienne Bailon was left baffled during her backstage interviews with Britney Spears on The X Factor as she was convinced the superstar was just reciting lines fed to her by her handlers. The former The Cheetah Girls star worked as a backstage host on the U.S. reality TV show last year (12), and she had to interview the judges, including Demi Lovato and Spears.
Speaking during an appearance on U.S. talk show The Real, Bailon claimed she had no troubles with Lovato but struggled to interact with troubled pop star Spears.
She says, "The ultimate meltdown was Britney Spears... I worked with her on X Factor and I'm not going to lie to you guys, I would sit and do my interviews with Demi (Lovato) and do the behind-the-scenes stuff. But she (Spears) can't hold a conversation. No. They have someone who feeds her what she is supposed to say. Like she can't hold a conversation."
The Real co-host Tamar Braxton added, "I hear behind the scenes she's trying to get it together."
Singer/actress Adrienne Bailon pretended to have a boyfriend in a bid to get her ex, Rob Kardashian, off her back following their split in 2009. The former Cheetah Girls star dated Kim Kardashian's brother for two years, and fans of the family's reality TV show watched the pair's romance fall apart after he admitted to cheating on Bailon.
The star refused to give her beau another chance, and revealed during a segment on her new U.S. chat show The Real on Tuesday (30Jul13) that she created a fake new lover to stop Kardashian from contacting her after their messy break-up.
And she came clean with the truth that the stay-away letter her ex read aloud on his family reality show was actually written by her.
She says, "I was my own fake boyfriend. What all ya'll thought was that it was written by my boyfriend. It was not written by a boyfriend. That was written by me and my girl sitting on the sofa one day deciding to ourselves, 'Well, how can we make him stop calling me?' I got left alone. I think it worked!
"I was embarrassed (about the cheating) and basically said, 'I want nothing to do with you'."
"I've gotten pretty bad tattoos before. Everybody knows I have the ratchet-iest (worst) booty tattoo of an ex-boyfriend. I don't know what I was thinking... I'm in the process of getting laser tattoo removal. It does not feel good. You could smell your flesh burning. And it's my a** flesh burning!" Singer/actress Adrienne Bailon regrets having her ex-boyfriend Robert Kardashian's name inked on her butt.
