The Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen star joins Jessica Biel and her boyfriend Justin Timberlake in a star-studded effort to scale the 9,000-foot (5,890-metre) African peak as part of a fundraising and awareness effort for the worldwide water crisis.
Lucas is confident she can cope with the trek - because a childhood pal showed her how to survive in the Australian Outback.
She says, "My best friend was Aboriginal. She taught me about bush tucker - the food of the land and the different things you can eat if you get lost in the bush, like grasses and berries."
The actor is in final negotiations to join the action project, directed by Dan Bradley, which has already begun filming in Michigan.
Red Dawn follows the adventures of a group of teenagers who come together to defend their home town when it is invaded by a joint Chinese and Russian army, reports Variety.com.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's son Connor is also part of the cast, in addition to Australian stars Jed Eckert and Isabel Lucas.
The 14 year old, who was adopted by his parents, along with his sister Isabella, first proved his acting skills with a role opposite Will Smith in 2008 film Seven Pounds.
And now he is on course for more box office success - he has been signed up to star in a new version of 1984 action film Red Dawn, playing the youngest in a group of high school students who wage war against foreign invaders.
Cruise joins Australian stars Jed Eckert and Isabel Lucas in the project, which is due to start filming in Detroit, Michigan, next month (Sep09) and slated to hit cinemas in 2010, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Entourage actor Adrian Grenier has a new leading lady in his life -- Twilight star Ashley Greene.
Grenier, who has previously romanced actress Isabel Lucas, is alleged to be enamored by Greene after meeting her at a surfing event in Santa Barbara, California, over the weekend.
A source tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, "Once they met, they were inseparable all weekend. By Sunday night, they were on the dance floor together."
But the Learn to Ride surf camp wasn't without incident -- Grenier was reportedly involved in a confrontation with police after locals complained that the celebrity event, which also featured Good Charlotte rockers Benji and Joel Madden, was causing too much commotion.

The Transformers’ fansite www.tfw2005.com scored a major spoiler today about the new sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
The site claims that the new franchise hottie Isabel Lucas’ character Alice is actually a Pretender. Man-boys won’t need an explanation, but for those who weren’t fans in the 1980s, these Pretenders are Transformers hidden in shells that act as a disguise.
Alice will contain a Frenzy robot hybrid with an “arm that transforms into an energy weapon, a long tongue, and a scanning tentacle.”
The Transformers sequel is slated to open June 26, 2009 with Shia LaBeouf reprising his role as Sam Witwicky, the human caught between the Autobots and Decepticons.
Shia LaBeouf hinted at his struggle with alcohol in an interview prior to his alleged drunk driving arrest at the weekend.
The actor was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after his truck flipped across a road and collided with another vehicle on Sunday.
The incident allegedly followed a night of heavy drinking at a West Hollywood club with his Transformers 2 co-star Isabel Lucas, who sustained a minor head injury in the accident.
And the 22-year-old reveals he has a history with substance abuse in the September edition of men's magazine Details.
LaBeouf discloses that he and his father--a former heroin addict--would "drink together and smoke together" while he was growing up.
He says, "It's just a bad deal. It's not something that is conducive to being a role model--no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. I don't know how to have one drink."
LaBeouf remains in hospital after undergoing surgery on his hand following his recent car accident--although his lawyers insist he'll be back working on the Transformers 2 set within a month.

In October 2007, Lucas was part of a group of 30 people from Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (including American actress Hayden Panettiere) who took part in a protest against whaling in Taiji, Wakayama, Japan. The group paddled out on surfboards to the whales to attempt to stop the hunt, but they were forced to turn around after being intercepted by one of the fishing boats. They drove straight to Osaka airport and left the country to avoid being arrested for trespassing by the Japanese police. An outstanding arrest warrant for Lucas was issued in Japan.
Lucas involved in a car crash with Shia LaBeouf in July 2008. She escaped with only scratches and bruises, but LeBeouf was left with a crushed hand needing extensive surgery. LeBeouf's car had been hit by another vehicle traveling at 70mph and running a red light.
Lucas is a spokesperson for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
