The lifting of the Taliban's ban on the screening of motion pictures in
Afghanistan has heartened Indian film producers, the Times of India
Noting that until the Taliban takeover,
Afghanistan was the third largest overseas market for Bollywood (after
Britain and the U.S.), the Times said that formal deals with
local distributors could not be completed "until a clear picture of
government formation emerges."
But director Kuku Kohli said that he
plans to make his hit film, Yeh Dil Aashikana, available as soon
as possible. (In the film, a plane carrying the heroine is hijacked.)
Kohli told the newspaper: "We want to donate the film and not sell it.
The profits of the film would go for the benefit of Afghan children
affected by the war."
