British actor Tom Hardy made a cancer sufferer's dream come true by surprising her with a lunch date in London on Monday (27May13) - and presenting her with a diamond necklace. The Inception star's actress fiancee Charlotte Riley heard that meeting Hardy was on 23-year-old fan Kayleigh Duff's wish list, and helped arrange the special day.
Hardy enjoyed lunch in the U.K. capital with Duff, who is on a break from her cancer treatment, and she was left stunned when the actor gifted her with a sparkling neck piece.
She tells Britain's Canterbury Times newspaper, "I nearly died when I saw him. I was shaking - I just thought we were having a day out in London. Tom's fiancee Charlotte and (friend) Katie arranged it all without me knowing and he was so lovely and down to earth. We had lunch and tea and scones and he bought me a diamond necklace."

Movie legend Eastwood hit headlines after his bizarre performance in Tampa, Florida last Thursday (30Aug12), during which the Dirty Harry star chatted to an invisible Obama about foreign policy and economics, suggesting it was time for the President to be replaced by his party's candidate, Mitt Romney.
His eyebrow-raising antics provided great material for Penn, who is now a member of the leader's White House Office of Public Engagement, and he took the opportunity as one of the main speakers on the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina to mock the film veteran.
Praising Obama for his successes during his first term in office, the Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle star said, "I've worked on a lot of fun movies, but my favourite job was having a boss who gave the order to take out (terrorist Osama) Bin Laden and who's cool with all of us getting gay married (sic).
"So thank you invisible man in the chair, for that, and for giving my friends access to affordable health insurance and doubling funding for the Pell Grant (government funding for financially-strapped students)."
Penn's appearance took place shortly before First Lady Michelle Obama took to the podium to speak to campaigners.
Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am and actress Eva Longoria were among the Democrat supporters in the audience, while Glee actress Amber Riley performed the American National Anthem at the political event.
The actress' parents were in the audience as she belted out the Star Spangled Banner at the rally in Charlotte, North Carolina.
She took to Twitter.com to post live updates and urge followers to cast their votes at the November (12) presidential elections, writing, "Singing the National Anthem for the opening of the Democratic Convention! Couldn't be more excited! Exercise your rights as citizens and vote! Vote! Vote!"
The highlight of the evening was an appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama, who gave a heartfelt speech backing her husband, U.S. President Barack Obama, for another term in the White House.
She won over a host of famous faces, with Riley writing, "My First Lady is first class all the way. That speech was inspiring. She is everything I aspire to be," and Cher echoing, "Just watched Michelle Obama speak & am completely overwhelmed! She was amazing! She is truly a 'First Lady'! A woman to admire & emulate!" while Jamie Foxx added, "Tears in my eyes... Michelle Obama, true angel.... God bless America."
Entourage star Adrian Grenier wrote, "We are so lucky to have a First Lady such as Michelle Obama, she inspires me; a nation's mom with solid value," while Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey told fans, "I love Mrs. Obama!!! Michelle Obama wrote her own gorgeous speech," and singer Ricky Martin gushed, "Such a beautiful and powerful speech!!! Real! Honest! Emotional! Passionate! Thank you First Lady Michelle Obama."
Mia Farrow adds, "I knew tonight would be great but it was spectacular and unforgettable."
The stars, who stepped out for the London premiere of Hardy's new movie The Dark Knight Rises on Wednesday night (18Jul12), are lending their support to the Bowel Cancer UK organisation to raise awareness of the disease.
Riley says, "I am thrilled to become a patron of Bowel Cancer UK. I'm joining the charity to make sure that both women and men are aware of the symptoms of the disease and know what to do about them. Early diagnosis is so crucial to saving lives."
Her husband-to-be Hardy adds, "I'd like to help the charity to increase awareness and to help stop people dying needlessly from the disease. I hope you'll join me."
The Inception actor landed the Rising Star Award ahead of fellow nominees Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Aaron Johnson and Gemma Arterton - but he was not at the ceremony to claim his prize.
Hardy admits he chose to miss the BAFTAs to go on holiday with fiancee Charlotte Riley and his son, Louis, from a previous relationship - because he never expected to land the prize.
He tells U.K. TV host Alan Carr, "I was about to go away to Georgia for six weeks and start a new film. I had a choice whether to go away before with my missus and my little boy or go to the BAFTAs.
"We watched it on TV and I was like, 'Oh no!' I never expected to win so thank you."
Carr presented Hardy with the award during an interview, which is set to air in the U.K. on Monday (21Feb11).
The three Hollywood beauties are expected to complete screen tests for The Dark Knight Rises by the end of the month (Jan11).
It is not clear which roles the actresses will audition for, although Nolan is looking to cast a female villain and a love interest, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Acting newcomers Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley are also in consideration, while British Bond girl Gemma Arterton has also been linked to the project.
Production is due to begin on The Dark Knight Rises in May (11) in London and Los Angeles.
It will be Nolan and Bale's third collaboration in the Batman franchise.
First the Dark Knight wooed Katie Holmes, then Maggie Gyllenhaal; now he’s moving onto other leading ladies and he’s got quite a group to choose from. Word has it that Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Biel are all testing to see if they might be the right fit for the caped crusader.
Dark Knight Rises, the next Batman movie from Christopher Nolan, has two sizable female roles to fill – one villainess and one leading lady and love interest. One of these ladies will reportedly by the daughter of Liam Neeson’s character from Batman Begins, Ra’s Al Ghul. Talia appears in the comic books playing both lover and antagonist to Mr. Wayne, do I sense a love triangle in the Batman’s next adventure?
Also testing for one of these leading lady spots are a few up and coming actresses; Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley, and Gemma Arterton are all scheduled for testing. Arterton’s plate is a little full at the moment; her casting in Paramount’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters may provide a conflict. You may recognize Mara from a small role in Iron Man 2 and Riley is fairly unknown except for being one of the luckiest ladies alive (she’s engaged to Tom Hardy who also landed a role in Dark Knight Rises).
Any way you slice it, it looks like Bruce Wayne’s going to come out on top, and with three names like Knightley, Hathaway, and Biel, I’m hoping he’ll have another leading lady that’s a little less damsel and a little more kickass.

The pair, who met while filming a TV adaption of Wuthering Heights last year (09), sparked speculation they are set to wed after Riley was spotted with a diamond on her ring finger at a red carpet event in July (10).
And now the 28 year old has revealed she is due to walk down the aisle with the Bronson star - although no date has yet been set.
She tells the Sunday Express magazine, "Yes, we are engaged. We just got on well right from the start, to be honest, and had an immediate understanding of each other."
Hardy was previously married to Sarah Ward and has a son, Louis, with his ex-girlfriend Rachael Speed.
The Bronson star is engaged to actress Charlotte Riley but admits he experimented with homosexuality when he was younger.
Hardy insists he never went all the way with another man, and can't imagine having a sexual relationship with a guy now he's reached the age of 32.
Asked if he'd ever had sexual relations with another man, he told Britain's Now magazine, "As a boy? Of course I have. I'm an actor for f**k's sake. I'm an artist. I've played with everything and everyone. But I'm not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality, but the gay sex bit does nothing for me... To me it just doesn't compute now that I'm into my thirties and it doesn't do it for me. I'm done experimenting."
However, the actor insists he still needs gay men in his life - because they understand his interest in shoes.
He adds, "There's plenty of other stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I don't think I'm metrosexual but I'm definitely my mother's son. I have definite feminine qualities and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine."
