Paris Hilton has credited the late Dj Am for the turntable skills that have earned her another summer residency in Ibiza. The former reality TV star turned to best pal Nicole Richie's ex, Adam Goldstein, to learn what she needed to know about becoming a dancefloor diva - and the lessons paid off when she earned a residency at top club Amnesia.
She tells U.S. news show Hollywood Live Today, "DJ AM taught me and now I've been doing it professionally for about three years. It's amazing. I am playing all around the world. I play a different show in a different country every single day."
Goldstein died from an accidental drug overdose on 28 August, 2009, almost a year after he and his close pal Travis Barker survived a devastating plane crash which which killed four others in South Carolina.
The Cloud. It's the data storage solution of the future. But is it evil? Sure, it's useful for storing documents and pictures, but what exactly is the Cloud in the first place? Is it dangerous? Am I breathing it in right now? Isn't it disturbing how little the average person knows about the technologies we use every day? The new Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz film Sex Tape might looks like just another raunchy rom-com, but it's really a sobering warning about the dangers of computers and technology. Look down. You're probably reading this on a computer right now. That's how far they've gotten. They're right under our noses! Filmmakers have been warning us for years about the dangers of computers, and how with just a few mouse clicks, our lives can be ruined forever. Before we all retreat to our luddite caves, let's take a look at all the ways computers have screwed things up in movies.
Sex Tape The Technology: An iPad/the CloudWhat It Did: Synched a couple's embarrassing sex tape to multiple iPads given out as gifts to all their friends Fallout: The couple feels the appropriate amount of embarrassment at having your friends seeing you bump uglies in a crappy tablet video. Also, ridiculous hijinks ensue while they try to get the video deleted. In terms of technology screwing things up, this one isn't bad at all.
Her The Technology: Samantha, a sentient operating system What It Did: Fell head over heels in love with the hapless Theodore Twombly, then broke his heart after the OS race decides to fly away to another plane or universe or something. Fallout: Mr. Twombly (how is that an actual name?) loved and lost, but at least he became a better person because of it.
Office SpaceThe Technology: The Initech computer virusWhat It Did: Office drones Peter, Michael, and Samir, in an attempt to get back at their bosses for years of mistreatment, decide to infect their company's accounting system with a virus that would steal fractions of pennies over time from Initech. The amount stolen would be so small that no one would notice. Unfortunately, a missing decimal point caused the virus to steal thousands of dollars over just a few days.Fallout: Before the trio could get into any trouble, Initech is mysteriously (though not that mysteriously) burned to the ground, along with all of the evidence pointing Peter to the crime. The situation resolves itself, but being caught could have meant years of jail time.
American PieThe Technology: Jim Levenstein's PC What It Did: Jim hooks up a webcam and unwittingly shares his embarrassing sexual encounter with Nadia, a foreign exchange student from Slovakia, with his entire school.Fallout: Jim blows it for all of the internet to see and Nadia's foster parents send her back home, leaving him dateless and sexless for the prom. Happily, he does hook up with Michelle before the end credits roll.
Back to the Future The Technology: The DeLorean, a car-shaped time machine What It Did: It sent Marty McFly to the year 1955, where he unwittingly meddles into his parents' past and almost prevents his own birth. Fallout: Marty is able to get his parents back together at the end, but has to forever live with the idea that his mother tried to get into his Calvin Kleins. Yuck!
Captain America: The Winter SoldierThe Technology: Arnim Zola, a HYDRA supercomputer What It Did: Zola helps HYDRA infiltrate the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. and leads the team of scientists that turn Bucky Barnes into the Winter Solder. He then tries to kill Captain America and Black Widow, but the heroes survive in the end. Fallout: Cap's best friend, Bucky is turned into a brainwashed HYDRA spy and the terrorist organization nearly takes over the entire world after infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D.
WarGamesThe Technology: Joshua the WOPR, a supercomputer at NORADWhat It Did: After hacker wunderkind David Lightman hacks into NORAD and plays a mock game of "Global Thermonuclear War," Joshua stages a real Soviet nuclear attack to win the "game." After that fails, Joshua tries to launch the missiles himself, and nearly plunges the world into World War III.Fallout: After playing a couple rounds of tic-tac-toe, Joshua learns that nuclear war has no real winner except the cockroaches and settles for a game of chess instead. The day is saved, but the world came dangerously close to ending.
Terminator The Technology: Skynet, a self-aware intelligence system What It Did: Skynet, given command of the U.S.’s computerized defense programs, becomes self-aware and starts a nuclear war with Russia, leading to the near genocide of humanity. The intelligence system then sends Terminators to kill what’s left of the population Fallout: The initial nuclear attack kills three billion people and locks humanity in a war with machines. Skynet then sends a Terminator into the past to kill John Connor, the leader of the human resistance. This is certainly a far cry from your sex tape getting leaked onto the internet. It's a slippery slope.
"I still can't believe my lil buddy Cheryl got married. Had no idea. He is a great guy. Am very happy for them." Music and reality TV mogul Simon Cowell is as shocked as Cheryl Cole's fans by her secret marriage to French businessman Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini. The couple, which has been dating for just over three months, wed earlier this month (Jul14). The British pop star went public with the news on Sunday (13Jul14).
"Aww @CherylOfficial you must be having an amazing time. I am so happy for you! Good luck with everything. Come join the baby club. Best ever." New mother Nadine Coyle sends her best wishes to her former Girls Aloud bandmate Cheryl Cole following news the singer married her boyfriend of just three months in secret earlier this month (Jul14).
Actor Lance Gross is preparing to be a first-time father. The House of Payne star's girlfriend of three years, Rebecca Jefferson, is pregnant.
Gross announced the news with a revealing photo of the mum-to-be, in which she is completely naked and sitting on a beach, proudly showing off a side view of her growing baby bump, on his Instagram.com page on Wednesday (16Jul14).
Gross gushed over his stylist girlfriend in the accompanying caption, which reads, "God has gifted me. It's like I get to unwrap you daily. Your presence continues to bring me joy each time without exhaustion. I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU."
Gross was previously engaged to model Eva Marcille but broke off the engagement in 2010.
Australian singer/songwriter Sia has scored her first number one album in the U.S. The star's new release 1000 Forms of Fear has shot to the top of the Billboard 200, despite the fact Sia promoted it by performing with her back to the camera on a series of U.S. chat shows as dancers interpreted her hit single Chandelier.
The album is Sia's first U.S. top 10 - her previous releases have failed to break the top 20.
The Frozen soundtrack is on the rise again at two, while Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour holds at three and fellow Brit Ed Sheeran falls to four with X.
Last week's number one, Trey Songz's Trigga, drops to five and veteran rockers Judas Priest score their highest-charting album ever, as Redeemer of Souls debuts at number six.
Meanwhile, on the singles chart, Canadian pop/reggae group MAGIC! have ended Iggy Azalea's seven-week reign atop the Hot 100.
The group's Rude topples rapper Azalea's Fancy, making MAGIC! the first all-Canadian act to top the U.S. charts in over a decade.
MAGIC! frontman Nasri Atweh is not new to the top 10 - he co-wrote Justin Bieber's As Long as You Love Me, Pitbull's Feel This Moment and New Kids on the Block's Summertime.
Azalea's Fancy falls to number two on the new chart, while her Problem collaboration with Ariana Grande stays put at three. Nico & Vinz's Am I Wrong and Sam Smith's Stay With me are also unmoved at four and five.
Garth Brooks has broken the hearts of his Irish fans by confirming all five of his sold out Croke Park shows near Dublin, set for later this month (Jul14), have been cancelled over a permit issue. Officials at Dublin City Council have told the country star they cannot change their earlier ruling to not allow the necessary licenses for all five shows, and so Brooks has stuck to his all-or-nothing pledge.
Promoters were granted permission to stage three shows at Croke Park, but came up against local opposition when they added two extra dates due to demand.
Councillors sided with the locals and agreed the extra two shows could not go ahead, prompting Brooks to threaten to pull all the concerts.
In a statement released on Monday (14Jul14), the singer writes, "I just received the news the Irish council cannot change their earlier ruling to not allow the licenses for all five shows.
"To say I am crushed is an understatement. All I see is my mother's face and I hear her voice. She always said things happen for a reason and for the right reason. As hard as I try, I cannot see the light on this one.
"So, it is with a broken heart, I announce the ticket refunds for the event will go as posted by TicketMaster."
Brooks can only hope that his Irish fans will get to other shows on his world tour, adding, "I encourage any and all of them that can come see the show, at some point around the world, to bring your Irish flags and wave them proudly at the concerts. I will be looking for you."
Almost 400,000 fans were expected to attend the shows, which were billed as Brooks' Irish comeback after a 17-year absence.
Rapper will.i.am has scored his 10th number one in the U.K. singles chart with It's My Birthday. The Black Eyed Peas star's new song, featuring Cody Wise, has shot to the top of the countdown, knocking Ariana Grande's Problem into second place.
Coming in at number three is Ella Henderson's Ghost, while The Vamps' Somebody To You and George Ezra's Budapest round out the top five, in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the U.K. albums chart, Ed Sheeran's X holds on to the number one spot for the third week in a row.
Manic Street Preachers' Futurology is new at two, followed by Dolly Parton's Blue Smoke at three.
Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour and George Ezra's Wanted On Voyage place fourth and fifth on the charts, respectively.
The Exorcist filmmaker William Friedkin is in talks to take over from Cary Joji Fukunaga as director of hit crime series True Detective. Fukunaga stepped down from the helm of the show following the completion of the first season of the anthology series, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as troubled police detectives, and now Friedkin reveals he has met with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolato to discuss his possible involvement in the upcoming second season.
He tells IndieWire.com, "I am considering it (directing True Detective). I like this writer very much. I've met him, and he's the real deal as far as I'm concerned.
"Now, all the new seasons are different so I'm not committed - this new season has nothing to do with the last one. Except for him (Pizzolato) and his sensibility, which I think is extraordinary.
"So what you can say is I'm a huge fan of his writing, I've met with him, I like him, I like the direction he's taking with this."
The news emerges as True Detective lands four nominations for the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards. Both Harrelson and McConaughey will compete for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Fukunaga is up for Outstanding Director for a Drama Series and the show is shortlisted for Outstanding Drama Series.
Season two is expected to be set in California and feature a whole new cast with three lead roles instead of the previous two.
Casting details have yet to be revealed, although Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain previously had to deny rumours suggesting she was preparing to sign on as a lead.
Veteran actress Sharon Stone is throwing herself back into the dating scene now her children are older.
The Basic Instinct star, 56, is mother to three adopted sons - Roan, 14, Laird, nine, and Quinn, eight - and she admits romance was a low priority for her while her boys were small, but she is now sure they are old enough to understand if she has a boyfriend.
Stone, who divorced her husband Phil Bronstein in 2004, tells Extra, "I am available for dating... What's happened is my kids have reached the age where I feel comfortable to date. I didn't want to date when they were little... who needs a bunch of people running in and out of their lives? Now I feel comfortable dating."
