Reverend And The Makers frontman Jon Mcclure has publicly criticised Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, branding his hits "McDonald's music". The rocker is adamant The Girls hitmaker, who has carved out a successful global DJ career and regularly tops the charts with his dance tunes, represents all that is wrong with modern music.
He tells Britain's Daily Record newspaper, "People think because I don't like Calvin Harris that I must be anti-Scottish but I'm not.
"l love (Scottish acts) Django Django, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand, The Jesus and Mary Chain - but Calvin makes what I call McDonald's music.
"We came out at a similar time and both made vaguely electronic tunes with a band. And then his A&R (artists and repertoire) man said, 'Instead of doing that song with Leona Lewis, I'll get Rihanna to sing it. Pretend you're a DJ now and don't even be in a band.'
"He doesn't even like his own music. People graft (work) all week and pay a hundred and odd quid (sic) to go to a festival and when he plays live he's just pressing play on a CD."

"There are so many women who have kids and still have careers. That is something I'm not willing to do right now. I'm not there yet. I've got a little bit of time." British singer Leona Lewis is not planning to start a family with German boyfriend Dennis Jauch before she turns 30 next year (15).
Singer Leona Lewis thought she had blown her chances of landing a role in new movie musical Walking On Sunshine when she fell over in the street in front of the film's directors. The Bleeding Love star, who quit Simon Cowell's Syco Music label last month (May14) after signing a new deal with Island Records, has a supporting role in the holiday romance movie, but she admits she feared she'd wrecked her chances following a fall after her audition with Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini.
Lewis, who plays leading lady Hannah Arterton's friend in the film, says, "I had to audition just the same as anyone else... and I remember sweating, I was so nervous. I came out of the audition and my mum and dad were supposed to pick me up, but they weren't there. I started walking and tripped over in the street and the directors were behind me.
"It was so embarrassing. I was like, 'No, that's it, it's gone. They think I'm crazy!'"
British singer James Arthur has confirmed reports suggesting he has parted ways with Simon Cowell and his record label Syco. Rumours suggested Cowell and other executives at the company had dropped the U.K. X Factor winner after he wrote a song about terrorism, and now it seems the stories are true.
Arthur took to Twitter.com late on Tuesday to confirm he had moved on, writing, "Just to clear things up - I am no longer with Syco. I would like to thank all at the label for making a great record with me.
"I now have to move on and do something different - the future is bright!"
Arthur sparked controversy with the lyrics to his song Follow the Leader, in which he sang "I'm gonna blow up your family like I'm a terrorist", and then attempted to play down the fuss, insisting he was "not promoting terrorism".
Arthur has become the latest X Factor winner to depart Cowell's label - Matt Cardle, Joe McElderry and Steve Brookstein were all dropped and last week (ends06Jun14), Leona Lewis announced she had left the company after seven years, signing a new deal with Island Records.
Singer Leona Lewis has severed ties with Simon Cowell's record label, eight years after the music and TV mogul discovered her on U.K. talent show The X Factor. The Bleeding Love hitmaker, who has been part of Cowell's Syco label since she won The X Factor in 2006, has signed a new deal with Island Records.
The 29 year old, who released four albums as a Syco artist, has called her new deal "a dream come true", while Cowell has issued a statement wishing her well, suggesting he and Lewis have parted on good terms.
He says, "Congratulations Leona. We had seven great years together and now wish you all the best for the future. You put X Factor on the map."
Lewis adds, "To me Island has always been a label where artists can really flourish and are encouraged to express themselves. Island stands for quality music and signing with such a legendary label is really like a dream come true for me. I can't wait to start making music with my new team."
Pop star Leona Lewis was given the honour of performing Britain's national anthem, God Save the Queen, as her favourite soccer team Arsenal prepared to take on Hull City in the F.A. Cup Final at London's Wembley Stadium on Saturday (17May14). The singer had extra reason to celebrate at the match after Arsene Wenger's team defeated Hull City in extra time to win the title 3-2.
Celebrities including Jada Pinkett Smith, Amy Poehler and Leona Lewis have got behind an online campaign demanding the release of the kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls. More than 250 young females have been snatched from northern Nigeria in recent weeks by members of the Boko Haram extremist group, who want to deny them a Western education.
A campaign has been launched via Twitter.com, with the 'hashtag' #BringBackOurGirls, and now several stars are supporting the protest, which demands the girls' release and aims to put pressure on the Nigerian government to take action. Pinkett Smith urged fans to sign a petition calling for U.S. or global help with the situation.
Other stars to back the drive include actresses Alyssa Milano, Queen Latifah and Minnie Driver. Comedienne Poehler posted a picture of herself holding a piece of paper with the hashtag written on it, and told followers, "Shout! Participate! Show that you care!"
British singer Lewis posted a similar snap, while TV presenter/model Alexa Chung wrote her message in red lipstick on a mirror.
Singer Wyclef Jean wrote, "Children are the reward of life. Rescue our Nigerian sisters. The world is watching, Make your voice heard. Retweet! #BringBackOurGirls."
Public figures have also joined in the campaign, including U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and teenager Malala Yousafzai, who was shot for campaigning for women's rights in Pakistan.

British pop star Leona Lewis celebrated her 29th birthday on Thursday night (03Apr14) by throwing a kooky party in London complete with mini-lookalikes and circus performers. The singer headed to the Cirque le Soir nightspot in the British capital to mark her big day, and her party was themed around her biggest hit single, Bleeding Love.
Guests included her mentor Simon Cowell and music manager Louis Walsh, and the entertainment featured circus performers and transvestite Chrissy Darling, who was dressed as Lewis in her Bleeding Love video.
The event also featured dwarves dressed as Lewis, Cowell and Walsh, who presented the star with a lavish birthday cake.
An onlooker tells WENN, "Leona and her friends were all getting into the spirit of the night by wearing elaborate headpieces and dancing on the tables as a steady stream of circus performers strutted their stuff in front of them.
"They started off with a pair of contortionists, before break dancers, cross-dressers and even a giant all came out to wish her happy birthday. And she was amazed when a strong-man folded a frying pan in front of her eyes, before bending a thick iron bar into a heart shape and presenting it to her as a gift."
During the event, Lewis also frolicked in a ball pool with her friends and later enjoyed an afterparty at a nearby nightclub.
