Whatever side of the Underwood debate you fall on, we think everyone can agree that the highlight of NBC's The Sound of Music, Live! were the Broadway veterans in supporting roles. Audra McDonald's "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" provoked the only emotion we saw on Carrie's face all night — other than "Meow, meow, meow, meow...," of course. Christian Borle made Max so likeable we kept forgetting about that Nazi sympathizer thing. And as Elsa, Laura Benanti changed the plot of the show to "Fabulous Baroness loses imagination-free whistle-fetishist to robot nanny in Sandra Bullock's costume from the Miss Congeniality talent competition scene." She. Was. Everything. In no particular order, her finest moments.
When she was the best-dressed woman in Austria.
Clearly, everyone but Laura did something to piss off the costume designer. While the rest of the cast was clothed in K-Mart's Heidi-meets-High School Musical collection, Elsa was devastating us in a black evening gown and a perfectly fitted and flowing pink and red pantsuit. Work.
When she single-handedly filled up our "Reaction Gif" folders.
We were already questioning the Captain and Maria's whirlwind "love" affair when they shared as much chemistry as I do with my Metrocard. But it was Benanti's eyerolls and raised eyebrows that really drove home the silliness of the situation. Go find yourself a nice Baron, Elsa.
Oh right — when she sang.
Laura has played Gypsy Rose Lee, Claudia in Nine, Cinderella in Into the Woods, and yes, Maria the novice on Broadway. So she hardly broke a sweat when she slayed her meager two songs on the live broadcast.
When she loved us for loving her.
"Hey all my gays and bitches out there," Laura tweeted. "Thanks for being #TeamElsa."
This episode was all about fights: the fights of Housewives past, Housewives present, and Housewives fights yet to be. It seems like everyone has something they are intending to fight about and we’ll only see what happens with that.
Kandi Burruss is still dealing with the fight with her mother. She is rushing to make sure there’s more photos of her mother, Momma Joyce, to appease The Ghost of Weaves Past. She enlists the help of her assistant Carmon, who may be fighting with the person who does titles on the show. I always thought her name was Carmen.
NeNe Leakes has a lunch date with her friends Chuck and Mynique. There she drops a few bombshells. She wants the couple to start hanging out with the Housewives cast, especially since Chuck dated Kandi and may or may not have had oral pleasure from Phaedra Parks. According to NeNe, Phadrea’s not only a lawyer but a “head doctor.” It looks like NeNe has secured some drama to fight about either at the upcoming girl's trip or on the Reunion.
Phaedra is back from Alabama. She’s also still in a passive aggressive fight with her husband, Apollo Nida. He apologizes again and they seem to have a détente. They are committed to making things work ... for now.
Kandi gets all of the girls together for the biggest fight of all, the battle of the bulge. She has them do “Cardio Cabaret,” which doesn’t seem to be much of a calorie burner since none of the ladies break a sweat. Kenya Moore also points out that Phaedra is having a fight with her belt of her workout outfit baby weight. NeNe brings up the idea of the girls going on a free trip provided by Bravo girl’s bonding trip. They decide to go to Savannah.
Cynthia Bailey is fighting to stay on the show. She has literally enlisted her entire family including her ex-husband, actor Leon Robinson. Her daughter Noelle’s first relationship is getting pimped out for all of America. What better way to empower your daughter with good values than to broadcast her first relationship on Bravo?
Porsha Stewart is fighting health issues. She fainted and went to the hospital. She mentioned a condition where not enough blood goes to her brain. She also said she was very dehydrated. Hopefully, she didn’t “forget to eat” with all the pressure of her divorce.
Kenya Moore reconnects with her mother figure, her Aunt Lori. She brings up children and shares her concerns about fertility and her relationship with her African Prince of e-mail scam fame. She has a breakthrough that many of her poor choices with men and catchphrases are due to her nonexistent relationship with her mother.
The literal mother of all fights happens at Kandi’s wedding gown consultation. Carmon is there and Momma Joyce shows up in a Glamour t-shirt with her two sisters. Joyce is disagreeable and quickly starts grumbling mean digs about the wedding. Carmon questions why Joyce would even show up and Joyce hops up to attack. When Kandi comes out, in a lovely wedding dress, Joyce’s minions sisters say that Carmon attacked first. Kandi leaves to try on another dress and the fight escalates to Joyce getting up with her shoe to attack Carmon. Her shoe! That isn’t very glamorous behavior, Joyce.
It’s worth mentioning that Momma Joyce got bent out of shape when Phaedra hired a stripper for Kandi’s birthday. Kandi has a line of sex toys. Yet, a couple years later she is thrilled to get into fisticuffs in a bridal gown showroom. With that double-standard for violence and sex, she may want to consider working for the MPAA. Burn!
This may just be the tip of the iceberg because as we all know: When Housewives travel together, things get crazy fast.
A dress worn by the late Diana, Princess Of Wales has sold at auction for $127,500 (£85,000). The ballgown, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, was worn by the tragic British royal at a number of high profile events, including the 1987 premiere of James Bond movie The Living Daylights and during a trip to the Bolshoi Ballet.
The dress was purchased by bosses of an overseas museum following a bidding war at the Passion for Fashion auction in south London on Tuesday (03Dec13).
The gown is encrusted with gold sequins, rhinestones, crystals and pearls and is accompanied by a matching petticoat, headband and optional sleeve panels. Diana selected the dress from 12 Emanuel frocks on display at a Red Cross benefit fashion show in 1996 and opted to buy the display dress rather than have it fitted to her specific measurements.
An auction house spokeswoman tells ABC News, "The dress suited her perfectly. Not many women could carry this dress off."
David and Elizabeth Emanuel also designed the dress Diana wore for her wedding to Charles, Prince of Wales in 1981.
Keira Knightley relived her wedding day on Tuesday night (03Dec13) by taking to the red carpet in the designer gown she wore for her low-key nuptials. The Pirates of the Caribbean beauty married The Klaxons star James Righton in the South of France in May (13) in front of just a handful of friends and family.
She wore a simple Rodarte dress with a tulle skirt for her big day, one that fans had already seen her in at a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) event in 2008.
Knightley gave the dress another outing by wearing it at the Serious Fun charity gala in London, changing the look of the frock only slightly by adding a sheer, beaded overlay.
The event was held at the Roundhouse venue in the U.K. capital and raised funds for global programs to help children with serious illnesses.
A costume worn by Mark Hamill in Star Wars is expected to fetch as much as $45,000 (£30,000) at auction. The poncho worn by Hamill's character Luke Skywalker in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope is among the items featured in Christie's Pop Culture online sale.
The auction includes 100 lots of props, photographs, artwork, instruments and other iconic items from the world of music and film.
Also up for sale is the Tom Ford-designed suit and cuff links worn by Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall, and a trumpet played by jazz legend Louis Armstrong, which expected to bring in as much as $12,000 (£8,000).
The black lace Jean Paul Gaultier evening gown worn by Lady Gaga on the red carpet at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards is also up for sale, along with a dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Paris When It Sizzles, and stage costumes donned by Britney Spears, Madonna and Freddie Mercury.
The Pop Culture lots have been put on display at Christie's auction house in London until 5 December (13). Fans can bid on the items in the exhibition in the online-only auction until 5 December (13).
Famous faces including Ariana Grande, Carrie Underwood and Fall Out Boy took time away from their turkey feasts to take part in the iconic Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City on Thursday (28Nov13). The stars were all on hand to help the masses celebrate the holiday as the parade's floats made their way through the Big Apple, with huge inflatables of Spider-Man, Snoopy, Sonic the Hedgehog and SpongeBob Squarepants drifting in the sky.
As well as Grande, Underwood, Kristin Chenoweth and Fall Out Boy, TV host Jimmy Fallon was also on a float with the characters from Sesame Street, while Kellie Pickler donned a red gown on an autumn-themed platform.
Even the Brits got involved - U.K. pop star Cher Lloyd was seen waving at the crowds from another truck.
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez returned home to Texas for her Thanksgiving Day and performed during the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving halftime show.
She sang Walk Like A Champion and Come and Get It before shouting, "Happy Thanksgiving!"
British rapper Dappy has been hospitalised after he was thrown from a horse and kicked in the face. The former N-Dubz member was riding the animal in the grounds of his home in Herefordshire, England when the creature reared, throwing the star to the ground.
He was then hit in the face by the horse's hoof, leaving him covered in blood and needing medical attention.
Dappy's representative, Terry Mills, says, “I can confirm that my client was involved in a horse riding accident at home where he fell from his horse and was subsequently kicked in the face.
“Dappy was rushed to hospital where he received medical treatment and is now recovering.”
On Thursday night (28Nov13), the star uploaded a picture of himself in what appeared to be a hospital gown and asked fans, "Can you guess where I am," before subsequently deleting the image.
British singer Rita Ora was left red-faced after accidentally flashing her underwear while celebrating her birthday in a revealing dress. The R.I.P. hitmaker turned 23 on Tuesday (26Nov13) and she marked the occasion by enjoying an intimate dinner with her DJ boyfriend Calvin Harris before hitting London's Box nightclub with a host of pals.
However, the star's daring red gown, which was cut low and had a long split in the middle, proved to be quite difficult to control. Ora ended the night with an embarrassing glitch by accidentally flashing her white underwear to waiting photographers as she walked back to her car.
Before the celebrations began, Ora took to Instagram to share a topless snap of herself, covering her breasts with a pillow, which had "I'm a f**king star" emblazoned across it.
Taylor Swift came face to face with a real fairytale prince on Tuesday (26Nov13) after dashing to London following her four-trophy win at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (24Nov13) for a meeting with Prince William. The Love Story hitmaker was among the celebrity guests at the Winter Whites Gala in Aid of Centrepoint at Kensington Palace, where the British royal made a point of stopping to chat with her and compliment the singer on her stunning crystal gown.
Swift told reporters she was thrilled to be a part of the evening - her first royal engagement - and stunned by the gala's winter wonderland theme, which included imported snow.
She said, "It is so incredibly exciting to be performing at Kensington Palace. With the snow, the lighting, the decorations, it's all so Christmas-y. It's kind of surreal, right? I'm at a palace!
"I'm just soaking it all in. It's going to be a great night."
And after her meeting with the Prince, the giddy country star gushed, "He's so funny!"
Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery, Oscar winner Colin Firth and James Blunt also attended the royal bash, and Jon Bon Jovi, who was photographed posing with Swift on the blue carpet, was presented with the Centrepoint Great Britain Youth Inspiration Award for his humanitarian work.
Lady Gaga made quite the entrance at the American Music Awards on Sunday (24Nov13) by arriving on the red carpet sitting atop a white horse structure powered by two strong men. The pop superstar, who wore a lilac Versace gown, revealed the stunt was in tribute to former actress Bianca Jagger, who famously pulled up to New York's fabled Studio 54 club on a real horse for her birthday in 1977.
