Actors Mia Farrow and Dylan Mcdermott have led the tributes to their former co-star Lord Richard Attenborough, following the British movie icon's death on Sunday (24Aug14). The exact cause of death has yet to be revealed, but Attenborough had been living in a nursing home with his wife, Sheila Sim, and was confined to a wheelchair after suffering a serious fall in 2008.
McDermott, who starred alongside Attenborough in the 1994 reboot of Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street, took to Twitter.com to pay tribute to the man who played Kris Kringle, and wrote, "Rest in peace Richard Attenborough. U (sic) were the best Santa ever."
Their co-star and former child actress Mara Wilson also added, "Sir Richard Attenborough was the only Santa Claus I ever believed in. A wonderful man. Still in shock right now. May he rest in peace."
News of Attenborough's death comes almost two weeks after Wilson's Mrs. Doubtfire co-star, Robin Williams passed away after committing suicide.
Mia Farrow, who worked with Attenborough in 1964's Guns at Batasi, also added her own tribute to her friend, and wrote, "Richard Attenborough was the kindest man I have ever had the privilege of working with. A Prince. RIP 'Pa' - and thank you," as well as comedian Ricky Gervais, who added, "RIP Richard Attenborough. One of the true greats of the silver screen."
Other Twitter tributes have come from Edgar Wright, former 007 star Samantha Bond, Rob Schneider, Stephen Amell, and British Prime Minister David Cameron, who noted that Attenborough's "acting in 'Brighton Rock' was brilliant, his directing of 'Gandhi' was stunning," and adding, "Richard Attenborough was one of the greats of cinema."
Born in Cambridge, England, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and served in the Royal Air Force during World War II before pursuing an acting career.
He made his debut as a sailor in the 1942 film In Which We Serve and gained popular acclaim playing ruthless young thug Pinkie Brown in Brighton Rock in 1947, eventually becoming a staple of countless British films over the next 30 years.
An accomplished stage actor, Attenborough was one of the original cast members of The Mousetrap, which went on to become the longest-running play in London's West End.
In the 1960s, he expanded his range of acting, taking on a variety of roles that exposed him to a wider audience - most notably as Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett in 1963's The Great Escape.
Hitting his stride, Attenborough won back-to-back Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor in 1967 and 1968 - for The Sand Pebbles and Doctor Dolittle.
But he'll be most fondly remembered for his behind-the-camera skills. In the late 1950s, he formed a production company, Beaver Films, and directed his first picture, Oh! What A Lovely War, in 1969.
He later scooped the Best Director and Best Picture Oscars in 1982 for his epic Gandhi, which also won him another Golden Globe Award the following year.
Other directorial credits followed - notably the 1992 biopic Chaplin, and classic 1993 movie Shadowlands - before Attenborough made a welcome return to the screen in 1993 as eccentric John Hammond in Jurassic Park.
Attenborough won a total of eight Oscars during his career. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1967, and a knighthood came in 1976. In 1993, he was bestowed the honour of life peer, becoming Baron Attenborough, of Richmond upon Thames, London.
And in 2006, Attenborough and his brother David, a popular broadcaster and beloved nature expert, were awarded the title of Distinguished Honorary Fellows of the University of Leicester in recognition of their services to the university.
Attenborough was also later awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Drama from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and was an Honorary Fellow of Bangor University.
On Boxing Day 2004, tragedy struck Attenborough's family when his eldest daughter Jane, her daughter Lucy, and her mother-in-law, also named Jane, died in the devastating Asian tsunami.
His family is expected to make a full statement about his death on Monday (25Aug14).
Kim Kardashian's lawyer has challenged an imprisoned convict to take a lie detector test amid allegations he bedded the reality TV star while she was engaged to basketball player Kris Humphries. Andrey Hicks claims he is in possession of an email Kardashian allegedly sent him in 2011, when she acknowledged the alleged affair in Monaco and admitted it was "a mistake".
However, legal eagle Marty Singer is convinced the note is a fake and he has fired off a scathing letter to Hicks, who openly refers to himself a "greedy capitalist who went to jail for a greedy scheme".
In the message, obtained by editors at TMZ.com, Singer blasts Hicks as "a swindling convict and a liar" and encourages the prisoner to take a polygraph test.
Kardashian wed Humphries in August, 2011 after a whirlwind romance, but she moved to end the marriage just 72 days later. The divorce was granted last year (13), four months before she became engaged to rapper Kanye West. They exchanged vows in Italy in May (14).
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is house-hunting for a home in New York City with her new husband Kanye West. The showbiz couple married in Italy last month (May14) and Kardashian now appears to be searching for a marital home in the Big Apple.
The socialite viewed a $17.3 million (£10.8 million) town house in Greenwich Village on Friday (27Jun14) along with her mother Kris Jenner, sister Kendall Jenner and a TV crew.
Kardashian is also said to have visited a $13 million (£8.1 million) penthouse with a private terrace complete with swimming pool.
Pictures show the brunette beauty wearing a hard hat as she visited one of the unfinished apartments.
The couple is building a family home in Bel Air, California but construction work is still underway. Reports suggest the project may be completed later this year (14).
U.S. soap opera The Young And The Restless was the one to beat at the Daytime Emmys on Sunday (22Jun14) after scooping six of the prizegiving's top awards.
Currently in its 41st season, the programme has spent 25 years as the number one rated daytime drama in America, and it proved its longevity by landing a handful of awards at the Los Angeles ceremony, including its eighth win for Outstanding Drama Series. Stars Billy Miller (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series), Amelia Heinle (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series), and Hunter King (Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series) all won in the top acting categories, while the show also took the trophies for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team and Outstanding Special Class Special for The Young and The Restless: The Jeanne Cooper Tribute, in honour of the actress who starred on the show for 40 years and died last May (13).
On Friday (20Jun14), The Young and The Restless earned three additional Daytime Creative Arts Emmys for a total haul of nine awards. Another long-running soap, Days of Our Lives, earned multiple wins, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Eileen Davidson, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Eric Martsolf, and Chandler Massey for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series.
Other winners included Steve Harvey (Outstanding Game Show Host for Family Feud and Outstanding Talk Show - Informative for his self-titled programme), Ellen DeGeneres (Outstanding Talk Show - Entertainment and five additional Creative Arts Emmys), and Dr. Mehmet Oz and newlywed Katie Couric, who tied as Outstanding Talk Show Host.
Comedienne Kathy Griffin hosted the prizegiving at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and kicked off the night by mocking reality TV star Kris Jenner, who attended the awards show last year (13) on the same day her daughter Kim Kardashian gave birth to baby North West.
Kanye West has sparked rumours he is feuding with Jay Z after he dropped the rapper's name from lyrics in his songs during a recent concert. The Stronger hitmaker invited Jay Z and wife Beyonce to his wedding in Italy last month (May14), but the superstar couple opted to spend the weekend in the Hamptons, New York with their daughter, Blue Ivy, instead.
Now rumours are circulating the two may be feuding after West dropped Jay Z's name from several song lyrics during his performance at the X Games in Austin, Texas this past weekend (07-08Jun14). According to reports, West omitted the 99 Problems hitmaker from his track Cold, which normally reads, "Lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team," and references his new bride's ex-husband Kris Humphries.
He then switched up the lyrics on Blood on the Leaves, in which he usually raps, "I don't give a damn if you used to talk to Jay Z/He ain't with you, he with Beyonce, you need to stop actin' lazy," to just, "You need to stop actin' crazy". And he also reportedly left out his moniker on Touch the Sky.
Following the concert, a fan commented about the omissions, writing, "First time he (skipped Jay Z's name), I (thought), 'Ehh that's odd, maybe he's just letting the crowd finish it whatever.' Then (Kanye) skipped his name again... Definitely obvious and intentional."
Meanwhile, Kanye's new mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, has spoken out about Beyonce and Jay Z's absence from the wedding, saying, "There was so much commotion and excitement, I never really gave that a second thought. "If you had been there, you would have thought that was the last thing on anyone's mind. (I) just assumed they were working."
Reality TV star Rob Kardashian has fuelled reports he has fallen out with sister Kim Kardashian after unfollowing her on Twitter.com. The TV personality sparked rumours he was at war with his famous family after skipping Kim's wedding to rap superstar Kanye West in Italy last month (May14).
He has now sent gossips into a spin by removing all the Tweeters he followed on the social media site, apart from his manager mother Kris Jenner and younger half-sibling Kylie Jenner. He has also deleted all tweets posted before 28 May (14).
The unfollowing spree comes just days after his sister Khloe Kardashian caused a stir on Instagram.com by posting a picture of herself swigging Champagne alongside her rumoured beau, rapper French Montana, who was posing with what appeared to be a machine gun.
Kim Kardashian celebrated her upcoming wedding to Kanye West with a lavish bridal shower in Beverly Hills on Saturday (10May14). The reality TV star is expected to wed West in Paris, France on 24 May (14), and she marked the remainder of her single days with a pre-wedding bash with her celebrity pals and famous family.
Among the guests at the Peninsula Hotel were sisters Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, mum Kris Jenner, singer Ciara, reality TV star Larsa Pippen and socialite Brittny Gastineau.
According to reports, the Paris-themed affair had been set to take place at the Beverly Hills Hotel, but Kardashian decided to boycott the venue in protest after its owner, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, implemented a law in his country that includes the stoning to death of gay people.
She joins the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Jay Leno, and Sharon Osbourne, who have all vowed to steer clear of his hotel chain until the law is reversed.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's wedding invitation has been leaked, confirming reports the couple is planning to exchange vows in Paris, France on 24 May (14). According to Us Weekly magazine, which has obtained a copy of the invite, approximately 100 guests received notification of the nuptials last month (Apr14).
The gold lettering on a dark background reveals the date and country of the wedding and the dress code for guests, but stops short of naming the venue.
The invitation reads: "The honour of your presence is requested at the marriage of Kim Kardashian to Kanye West. Saturday, the twenty-fourth of May Two Thousand and Fourteen. Details upon arrival. Black Tie."
There will also be a cocktail pre-wedding reception at 6pm on the eve of the big day. Again, there are no details of the venue, just the note "Paris, France".
Guests had until last week (02May14) to RSVP to the invitation.
Kanye proposed to Kardashian on her 33rd birthday in October (13), renting out the San Francisco Giants' home baseball field to get down on one knee.
The reality TV star recently dismissed reports suggesting she and the rapper were already secretly married and revealed the nuptials would not be televised, unlike her last wedding ceremony in 2011, when Kardashian exchanged vows with basketball star Kris Humphries only to split from him 72 days later.
She tweeted, "We've decided to keep this close to our heart and share thru (through) photos."
When it comes to Kim Kardashian, everyone considers him or herself an expert. And why shouldn't we? She leads a very public lifestyle, and her personal reputation and career have been built on baring it all for the world. Still, there's plenty that people assume about the reality star that simply is not accurate. And hey, even if you don't like her, you can at least get the facts straight. Here are five common misconceptions about Kimberly Noel Kardashian.1. She Was a Porn Star
People love to call Kim a "porn star." Well, no. That's not true. Kim was dating Ray J back in the day (a fact he's since tried to make a comeback career out of), and the young couple decided to make a sex tape. Whether they both went into it with the intention of selling the video and getting rich is another question, but she was in a committed relationship with him when it happened. The video was not professionally made -- it was grainy, had the shaky camera thing going, and -- from what we've heard -- wasn't all that exciting (just like a real home sex video). Repeat: Kim Kardashian has never made a porno, is not famous for being a porn star. If all it took was a single video, we'd have a lot more people with sex tapes dominating reality TV and running empires.2. She Contributes Nothing to the World
Kim may not have the Beyoncé talent, but she has the Beyoncé work ethic. Kim puts in work, and it's work that has gone on to benefit every member of her immediate family, as well as a number of worthy charities. In this clip from Keeping Up with the Kardashians she gets into a fight with Kourtney (that turns into a fight between Kourtney and Jonathan) over an appearance that Kourtney did not want to make. Whether people value her work or not, Jonathan was right to say that Kim works every day, all year round.
3. She's a Bad Mother
If you think Kim is only concerned with looking perfect all of the time and is totally fake half of the time, then you haven't seen the video of her leaking breastmilk through her nursing pads. Not only did she share this truly intimate moment on her show, she laughed off her siblings practically gagging over the scene. Because, when you're a true mom, leaky nipples are just a part of the game.
4. Her Relationship Is All for Show
Because of the Kris Humphries situation, people have always been suspicious of Kanye West and Kim. Two things work against the theory that these two are just together for the attention. First off, there's every Kanye West song in which he obsessively references Kim and proclaims his love for her. He's even rapped about dealing with his developing feelings while she was still with Kris. And then there's the effect the relationship has had on her reality show. The breastmilk leak was such a big deal partly because we hadn't even seen Nori yet! And although Kanye has appeared on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, they were rare appearances where little was revealed about their relationship. Being with Kanye has actually changed Kim in that she has had to curb her sharing (and her mom has surely had to deal Kanye's desire for more privacy as well). Watching Kim and Kanye do things neither has ever publicly done in a relationship suggests that there is something legit there.5. She Got Pregnant Just for the Publicity and Attention
Kim was actually not that thrilled about the idea of a baby shower. She was tired of the negative press (like that TMZ story about the alleged baby shower invites), and even asked that instead of registry gifts, friends and family donate to the Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. While she did end up having a baby shower, it was a fairly low-key event that her family put on for her. Looking at Kim and the terrible time the press gave her (and the health issues she had to deal with too), it's not difficult to believe that she was just over the whole thing and ready for Nori to arrive.
Now, you are all free to continue loathing, despising, or being totally indifferent to Kim Kardashian. Or loving her! As long as you're well-informed.

Rapper Kanye West will tie the knot with fiancee Kim Kardashian in Paris, France on 24 May (14), according to a report. The Stronger hitmaker proposed to the reality TV beauty in extravagant fashion on her 33rd birthday in October (13), and they previously revealed plans to exchange vows in the City of Love, branding it their "second home".
They even toured the Palace of Versailles, sparking rumours the royal chateau would serve as their wedding venue, although those claims were subsequently denied by officials at the historic French landmark.
Now editors at Us Weekly magazine claim the couple will wed in Paris in May (14).
Further details have yet to be revealed, but Kardashian recently admitted she will be shunning a big ceremony in favour of a "super, super small, intimate" celebration.
Kardashian has been married twice before - she eloped with music producer Damon Thomas in 2000, when she was just 19, and famously ended her second union, to basketball player Kris Humphries, in October, 2011 after just 72 days of marriage. Their divorce was finalised weeks before she welcomed baby girl North with West last summer (13).
