British singer Sam Smith is in talks to record the theme tune for the next James Bond movie, according to a U.K. report. The Stay With Me singer would follow in the footsteps of superstars including Adele, Madonna and Dame Shirley Bassey if he is picked to sing the anthem for the next film in the 007 franchise.
Bond star Daniel Craig is reportedly keen for Adele to follow up on her 2012 Oscar-winning theme tune for Skyfall, but producers are said to want to sign up Smith instead.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Sam is our top choice. He has the profile, cool image and astonishing voice to record a Bond theme.
"And there is only so long we can hold out for Adele. Daniel Craig was pushing for her because she did such a great job last time around."
The coveted job would be a major boost for 22-year-old Smith's already blossoming career and it would mark the first time a British male singer has recorded the Bond theme tune in three decades. Rocker Simon Le Bon was the last British male to sing a Bond theme when he recorded A View to a Kill with Duran Duran in 1985.
Pop star Simon Le Bon will indulge his love of sailing by taking part in a daring sea race on Thursday (07Aug14). The Duran Duran frontman, who famously cheated death when his yacht capsized during a race in 1985, is to join the crew of Azzam as it does battle against other contestants in the U.K.'s Cowes Week Big Boats competition.
Le Bon and his crewmates from the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing (ADOR) team will go up against seven other craft in a 50-mile (80-kilometre) dash around the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England.
In 1985, the singer was trapped under the hull of his yacht Drum for 40 minutes when it capsized during a race off the coast of Cornwall, England. He was rescued by a Royal Navy helicopter crew.
Fleetwood Mac star Christine Mcvie and The Specials founder Jerry Dammers have been honoured with distinctions at the 2014 Ivor Novello songwriting awards in London. McVie was handed a lifetime achievement award at the 59th annual event, while Free Nelson Mandela hitmaker Dammers, dubbed "the Tsar of ska" by presenter Mick Jones, picked up the Inspiration Award.
Musician and producer Nile Rodgers enjoyed his second honour in as many days - he claimed the Ivors' International Award a day after old pal Simon Le Bon surprised the Chic star with the Legends Award at the International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza on Wednesday (21May14).
Jimmy Page handed the Outstanding Contribution prize to fellow British guitar great Jeff Beck, while Mumford & Sons walked away with the award for International Achievement, and Tom Odell was named Songwriter of the Year.

Duran Duran star Simon Le Bon flew to the Spanish island of Ibiza to honour Nile Rodgers at a music industry event this week (beg19May14). The Rio hitmaker headed to the International Music Summit (IMS) to surprise Rodgers, his longtime friend and collaborator, at the event's annual industry dinner on Wednesday (21May14).
The singer paid tribute to the Chic star's career before presenting him with the Legends Award accolade.
Le Bon then performed with Rodgers, bringing funk icon George Clinton and Labelle singer Nona Hendryx onstage for a rendition of We Got The Funk.
The Duran Duran star writes in a post on Twitter.com, "Amazing night in Ibiza at IMS event to celebrate Nile Rodgers... Favourite moment of the evening was sharing the stage with Nile Rodgers, Nona Hendrix (sic) & George Clinton for an impromtu (sic) We Got The Funk."
A brief video of the performance was also shared on Duran Duran's Facebook.com page.
Stars including Boy George and Simon Le Bon have congratulated Austrian drag queen Conchita Wurst, who triumphed at the annual Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night (10May14). The singer, real name Tom Neuwirth, caused a huge stir even before the event took place with his long hair, glamorous outfits and full facial beard.
Wurst triumphed for Austria with the song Rise like a Phoenix at the camp extravaganza in Copenhagen, Denmark, and stars took to Twitter.com to send their well-wishes to the winner.
Boy George wrote, "Gorge. A vote for gay solidarity!", while Le Bon added, "I'm glad #Austria won #Eurovision. Here's to beardy chicks the world over. Yas (wife Yasmin Le Bon) probably won't shave today."
Actor Simon Pegg was also thrilled by the winner, adding, "Holy sculpted facial hair! Looks like I missed a doozy after all. Good on you Europe for showing some trans gender love. #eurovison."
Duran Duran star Simon Le Bon is convinced fellow singer Robin Thicke made a big mistake by releasing raunchy hit Blurred Lines, because he has been mistakenly labelled a "misogynist". Le Bon is adamant Thicke should have known better than to record a song with such controversial lyrics and pair it with such a saucy video.
He tells Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, "The problem with Robin Thicke's video is it disempowered all the women in it. I think Robin made a bit of a mistake, because he's not a bad guy, he's not a misogynist, but he's getting off on the chicks in the video and all that stuff. The theme of the song is, 'You say you don't want it, but you do', and that's, actually, quite scary if you carry it through, so I felt that that was a mistake."
The song has come under fire from anti-rape campaigners who claim the lyrics glamorise sexual violence, while others allege the video, which features scantily-clad girls dancing, objectifies women. Thicke has branded the criticism "ridiculous" and maintains he wrote the track about his "good girl" wife, actress Paula Patton.
Rocker Steven Tyler and Duran Duran co-founder Nick Rhodes are among the stars who have added their touching tributes to late music icon Lou Reed following his tragic death on Sunday (27Oct13). The former Velvet Underground frontman passed away at the age of 71, five months after undergoing a liver transplant, and The Who, The Pixies and Weezer were among the first acts to express their sadness at the news online.
Messages of condolence have continued to flood in from celebrities far and wide, and now Aerosmith singer Tyler has taken to his Twitter.com blog in memory of his late pal, writing, "RIP to a great friend a fellow musician. From maxes to the masses you made the world sing. I love you Lou!"
Veteran British pop star Rhodes has shared his favourite memory of Reed with fans via Duran Duran's website, revealing he first bonded with the late star after inviting him to play with the Rio hitmakers at a charity gig back in their 1980s heyday.
He writes, "It was quite surreal for everyone in the band, as less than a decade earlier, we had been fans listening to his music in our teenage bedrooms. Lou turned up at the Beacon Theatre with his guitar and amplifier to soundcheck, we rehearsed Walk on the Wild Side and Sweet Jane together, he was thrilled with the arrangements we had done, so we parted company for a few hours and next met, later that evening onstage.
"When Simon (Le Bon, singer) introduced our hero, Lou, my heart sank as it sounded as though the entire audience began to boo. Lou was unfazed and smiling, so we launched into the songs. It wasn't until afterwards when the sound of the crowd intensified, that I realised they were all affectionately shouting Lou, not boo... Long live Lou Reed!"
Meanwhile, The Recording Academy boss Neil Portnow has issued a statement on Reed's passing, hailing the Grammy winner as "an exceptionally gifted singer, songwriter, and musician", adding, "We have lost a true visionary and creative leader, and his groundbreaking work will forever hold its rightful place in music history."
Actors Alec Baldwin and Susan Sarandon, director Wes Craven and electro-pop pioneer Gary Numan have also tweeted tributes, while Cyndi Lauper posts, "I still can't believe Lou Reed passed away. I'm sorry for his family's loss. greatful (sic) for his music and the influence he had on my music", and Nikki Sixx shares, "RIP Lou Reed.Thank you for your beautiful/dark lyrics/music and stance on life. You inspired me from my teenage years right up till (sic) today."

Models and musicians – the pairing is as perfect as pancakes and syrup. Just last week, U2 bassist Adam Clayton married his model girlfriend Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho in Dublin, entering a long, distinguished line of rockers who have said “hell yeah” to fashionistas and models around the globe.
Here’s a rundown of some of the best model/rocker pairings over the years.
Kate Moss and Pete Doherty Kate Moss may be happily married to The Kills’ Jamie Hince, but before there was Jamie, there was her busted relationship with Pete Doherty. Moss was hardly a vision of innocence herself, but hooking up with a notorious, self-admitted junkie made for pure tabloid gold. Drugs and scandal followed, with Doherty claiming everything from “loving her bones” to saying that Moss was a “nasty old rag” who once kicked him in the head. In his mind, the pair broke up because, according to Doherty, “I can’t buy her diamonds.”
Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley The Piano Man definitely loves his statuesque blondes, and supermodel Christie Brinkley is no different. Brinkley starred in Joel’s video for “Uptown Girl,” which, contrary to popular belief, wasn’t actually written about Brinkley, but another one of Joel’s model exes – Elle McPherson. The pair married in 1985, but their marriage was strained due to Joel’s philandering and love for booze, and they finally divorced at the end of 1993.
Jack White and Karen Elson This couple was smoking hot and seemed like they were made for each other. White and Elson met when the former starred in the White Stripes video for “Blue Orchid,” and the pair married in 2005. Although they divorced 6 years later, they were awesome enough to hold a divorce party in 2011, so everyone thought that all was well between the two. However, lately Elson has accused White of basically being a douchebag (who really has it out for the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, for some reason), and White has countersued her in what’s become a messy ending for the once-reigning Couple of Cool.
Caleb Followill and Lily Aldridge Son of a preacher turned rock star who has fire-sex meets California girl at overexposed music festival, and they live happily ever after – that’s essentially the story of Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill and Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge. The two met at Coachella in 2011 and married later that year. Their daughter, Dixie Pearl Followill, was born in June last year.
Simon Le Bon and Yasmin Parveneh Not all model/rocker pairings end badly. Simon Le Bon has been married to Yasmin Parveneh since 1985. At the time of their marriage, their relationship was all over the gossip headlines – Le Bon was the lead singer of Duran Duran, one of the biggest bands of the 1980s, and Parveneh herself was one of the highest-earning models of the decade.
Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo Previously trying his darndest to be the Leonardo DiCaprio of the pop world, Adam Levine has had a long list of models by his side. His latest model girlfriend, Behati Prinsloo, is set to be his future wife, putting to rest his image of the perpetual pop bachelor. Though the pair had briefly broken up and Levine wasted no time in hooking up with model Nina Agdal, the two got back together and decided to get engaged.
Agyness Deyn and Albert Hammond, Jr. When Agyness Deyn and Albert Hammond, Jr. hooked up in 2008, it seemed like a match made in hipster heaven. Usually seen in paparazzi photos holding hands and walking dogs, the relationship was rumored to be much rockier than it initially seemed, and the couple finally broke up a year later. Deyn has definitely dated her share of rock stars, including The Paddingtons’ Josh Hubbard, Phantom Planet’s Alex Greenwald, and Last Shadow Puppets frontman and solo artist Miles Kane. The world is waiting for a supergroup of all the model’s exes, hopefully called Deyn’s Discards.
Rod Stewart and Rachel Hunter Like Billy Joel, Rod Stewart likes his women tall and blonde (and nearly identical-looking). In 1990, Stewart married model Rachel Hunter, the woman responsible for millions of young men saving up their dollars for Sports Illustrated issues in the 90s. The two separated in 1999 and officially divorced in 2006, and Hunter went on to have it going on as “Stacy’s Mom,” while Stewart – what else? – married another model.
Iman and David Bowie Arguably one of the coolest couples ever, Iman and David Bowie have been married since 1992. The union of Ziggy Stardust and the most gorgeous advocate for social aid had the entertainment world in a frenzy. Forget haters, barely anyone thought that this marriage would last, but twenty-one years later, the couple is still going strong.
Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour From the documentation of his behavior in the media, it’s safe to say that anyone who dates Axl Rose is probably making up for some bad karma in a past life. Allegations of physical abuse, theft, and violence Rose’s relationship with Seymour, but for some reason, the couple still decided to get engaged. The engagement was short-lived, due to Rose accusing Seymour of being unfaithful (because why would anyone cheat on a prize like Axl Rose?) and the couple finally broke up.
Keith Richards and Patti Hansen Who would’ve ever thought that Keith Richards would be the guy to be married to his wife for thirty years? Richards married model Patti Hansen in 1983 and have been together since then. A couple that makes it through drugs, rock and roll, Mick Jagger, and everything in between, is definitely a couple that stays together.
Paulina Porizkova and Ric Ocasek When these two hooked up, most people were scratching their heads, thinking “….what?” The gorgeous, then-19 year old Paulina Porizkova was featured in the Cars’ video for “Drive,” and although lead singer Ric Ocasek was still married at the time (and 35 years old), the two started dating and have been together ever since. Porizkova has also gone on to say that Ocasek is better-looking than George Clooney.
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills And the award for the most notorious rocker/model pairing goes to Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. Mills is a former model, famous for 2 things: having a prosthetic limb as part of her leg and for trying to suck Sir Macca drier than anyone else ever could. The pair married in 2002 and divorced 6 years later, with the divorce becoming a highly-publicized affair for the settlement amount that the celebrities were fighting for. Mills wanted £125 million – McCartney offered £15.8 million. Because is £15.8 million is obviously pennies, Mills kept fighting for more, eventually ending up with a total of £24.3 million, plus £35,000 per year to take care of their daughter. The best part of this is that Mills fancies herself to be a charity campaigner.

Pop superstars Beyonce, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez graced the stage in London on Saturday night (01Jun13) to spread the message of female empowerment at the high-profile The Sound of Change concert. Thousands of fans flocked to Twickenham Stadium for the charity gig, which aims to promote education, health and justice for women worldwide through the Chime for Change foundation.
Artists including Jessie J, Rita Ora, Florence Welch, John Legend, Timbaland, Simon Le Bon and Ellie Goulding all performed short sets to gear up the crowd ready for headliners Beyonce and Lopez.
The Jenny From the Block hitmaker performed a rousing rendition of the Beatles' classic Come Together with R&B diva Mary J. Blige, before playing her club hit On The Floor.
Beyonce then closed the concert with a stunning medley of her hits, including her version of Etta James' At Last, Destiny's Child song Survivor and her chart smash Crazy In Love, for which she was joined onstage by rapper husband Jay-Z, who gave the star a loving kiss on the cheek before she ended the show with her big ballad Halo.
Thanking the audience for buying tickets to support the cause, Beyonce said, "This is such an incredible night for all of us. Because of you all, we have raised more than $4 million (£2.6 million)."
Madonna was one of the guest presenters at the bash, and pledged to fund a school in Pakistan if fans helped to lay the foundation with their donations.
The Material Girl added, "I keep telling people that I want to start a revolution. Until you learn to read and write, you can't ask the question why. You can't do this without an education. Education is not a luxury, it is a basic human right."
Salma Hayek, who co-organised the event with Beyonce and Gucci boss Frida Giannini, was also among the presenters urging people to give money to Chime For Change, along with Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, James Franco and Jessica Chastain.
