Chris Brown has launched legal action against a woman who alleged he assaulted her during a night out in California. The Kiss Kiss singer hit headlines in June (13) when Deanna Gines claimed the star pushed her to the ground at the Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim.
Gines alleged she suffered torn ligaments in her right knee as a result of the incident, but police decided not to pursue the case.
She sued the singer over her alleged injuries, and now Brown has hit back with a countersuit, accusing her of lying and being "heavily intoxicated" at the club, according to TMZ.com.
Chris Brown will not face any police action over claims he shoved a woman during a confrontation at a nightclub. The R&B star hit headlines in June (13) when Deanna Gines alleged he had pushed her to the ground during a night out at the Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim, California.
He later took to Twitter.com to tell fans, "I didn't do anything," and now it has emerged cops who investigated Gines' complaint will not pursue charges against the singer, according to TMZ.com.
Gines alleged she suffered torn ligaments in her right knee as a result of the incident.
Earlier this month (Aug13), Brown was ordered to complete an additional 1,000 hours of community service when his probation was revoked after he was charged over a hit-and-run traffic accident. He has been under a five-year probation order since assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards in 2009.
Singer Chris Brown is more facing yet more legal action - a woman he is accused of assaulting inside a nightclub in June (13) is suing for damages. Deanna Gines claims she was in the V.I.P. section of Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim, California with the singer when he shoved her to the ground, causing her to fall to her knees.
After leaving the club, the 24 year old filed a police report and admitted herself to a nearby hospital, where medical staff determined she had torn ligaments in her right knee, that could require surgery.
She filed a lawsuit on Wednesday (24Jul13) alleging battery, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, according to TMZ.com. She is seeking at least $25,000 (£16,667) from the Fine China performer, after initially claiming she only wanted him to apologise.
Brown maintains he did nothing wrong and the owner of the club has previously backed up his account of his visit to the club, insisting Gines' story is false.
This is the latest legal issue Brown has been involved with - he is currently charged with a hit-and run, after a minor car accident in May (13). As a result, he is facing four years in prison after his probation relating to the 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna was revoked.
Sir Kenneth Branagh has won a slew of five star reviews for his stage comeback in Macbeth. The actor has returned to the theatre for the first time in five years with the title role in William Shakespeare's tragedy, which opened in a deconsecrated Victorian church as part of the Manchester International Festival in Manchester, England on Thursday (04Jul13).
The production, which also features ER star Alex Kingston as Lady Macbeth, has now been hailed a huge success by critics, with The Guardian's Michael Billington even comparing Branagh's performance to that of acting legend Sir Laurence Olivier. He writes, "What I admire about Branagh is that he is not afraid to do a spot of old-fashioned acting. The highest compliment I can pay him is that at times he evoked golden memories of Olivier in the role... This is an exciting production that shows why Branagh is such a fine Shakespearean actor."
Dominic Cavendish of The Daily Telegraph branded the play "thrilling" and gave it five stars out of five, adding, "This is a Macbeth, though, that won’t just go down as a highlight of the Manchester International Festival but as one of the Scottish Play’s great revivals. It’s a phoenix-like feather in the cap of Sir Ken, too, comeback Shakespearean king."
Quentin Letts of The Daily Mail also gave the play five stars and hailed Branagh as a "magnificent actor" while another five stars came from Deanna Delamotta of the Manchester Evening News.
The part in Macbeth not only marks Branagh's first stage role in five years, it also marks his return to Shakespeare after more than a decade of absence, while it is his first time playing the Bard's tragic Scottish king.
Embattled R&B star Chris Brown is in trouble with the law again - he has been charged with hit-and-run relating to a minor car accident in Los Angeles last month (May13). The Kiss Kiss hitmaker was back in the headlines in May (13) after accidentally hitting another vehicle while driving through Beverly Hills with his on/off girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
Reports suggested the singer, who is on probation for the 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna, failed to hand over the right insurance information to the other motorist before driving off, but his representative disputed the claims, insisting Brown obeyed the law and even had his lawyer, Mark Geragos, contact the woman soon after the run-in to make sure she had the correct details.
However, authorities are refusing to believe his side of the story and Brown has now been slapped with two criminal counts - a charge of hit-and-run for leaving the scene without exchanging the proper information, and another for driving without a valid licence.
He faces a maximum of six months behind bars for each offence, but that's not all - if the incident is considered a violation of his probation, it could land him behind bars for up to four years, according to TMZ.com.
The latest legal wrangle for Brown comes just a day after fresh assault allegations emerged following a reported altercation with a female at a California nightclub on Saturday (22Jun13). Deanna Giles, 24, has filed a police report amid claims she was violently shoved to the ground by the star, causing her to suffer torn ligaments in her knee. Brown has vehemently denied the accusations and has received the backing of the club owner, who insisted he did nothing wrong.
Chris Brown's representative has accused the woman he allegedly pushed to the ground during a gig at a California nightclub on Saturday (22Jun13) of causing harm to herself due to her "belligerent state". Police in Anaheim are currently investigating a complaint made by Deanna Gines, who claims she suffered torn ligaments in her right knee after the singer reportedly shoved her while partying at the Heat Ultra Lounge.
Brown, who is on probation for his 2009 assault on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, has vehemently denied the accusations and is adamant he "didn't do anything", and the venue's owner, Mike Joher, has since come to the star's defence, insisting 24-year-old Gines had been attempting to rush the stage and had to be removed from the club by bouncers.
He added, "Based on the information which we have gathered from our security company, mall security and other party goers which were at Heat on Saturday night, it is apparent that the alleged incident regarding Chris Brown is false."
Now Brown's spokeswoman, Nicole Perna, has issued a stronger statement to dismiss the alleged victim's side of the story.
A new press release issued to USA Today reads: "Reports that Chris Brown had physical contact with a female patron at the nightclub Heat are totally false and unfounded. Upon speaking with witnesses, security and the owner of the club, it has been proven that said patron caused the physical harm to herself in her belligerent state."
The owner of a California nightclub where Chris Brown is alleged to have shoved a woman during a night out has come to the R&B star's defence, branding the accusations "false" and insisting the singer was a "complete gentleman". Deanna Gines, 24, has filed an official complaint with police, claiming she was partying with the Kiss Kiss hitmaker at the Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim, California on Saturday (22Jun13) when he pushed her to the ground, tearing ligaments in her right knee.
Brown, who is on probation for his 2009 assault on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, subsequently took to his Twitter.com page to declare, "I don't usually comment but I didn't do anything."
Heat Ultra Lounge owner Mike Joher has now issued a statement regarding the incident, insisting there was "no way" Brown came into contact with Gines.
He states, "Based on the information which we have gathered from our security company, mall security and other party goers which were at Heat on Saturday night; It is apparent that the alleged incident regarding Chris Brown is false.
"We know that the claimant was trying to jump on stage and security was doing their job by keeping people away from Chris. There was no way that he could have touched her, his section was roped off and he had heavy security surrounding him. Witnesses state that... she was persistently trying to rush Chris. She was eventually removed from the club...
"Heat staff and security did what they had to, in order to ensure public safety and the safety of the artist. We have no reason to believe the allegations against Chris. He was a complete gentleman and remained professional throughout the entire night. Neither I, nor any of the witnesses we spoke to, saw him push or touch anybody. It is unfortunate that this matter has become an issue. Heat will pursue legal ramifications for slandering our name and the artist."
R&B star Chris Brown has vehemently denied new allegations of assault after he was accused of shoving a woman in a California nightclub on Saturday (22Jun13). Deanna Gines claims she had been partying with the Kiss Kiss hitmaker in the VIP section of the Heat Ultra Lounge, following his performance at the nearby Powerhouse 13 concert, when the singer violently pushed her to the ground.
The 24 year old, who is said to have suffered torn ligaments in her right knee as a result of the altercation, filed an official complaint with the Anaheim Police Department on Sunday (23Jun13). She also shared a photo of herself using crutches, with her leg in a brace, on TMZ.com.
Brown, who is on probation for his 2009 assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna, has lashed out at the report and personally reached out to editors at TMZ to "stop with the false stories".
In a post on Twitter.com, he added, "I don't usually comment but I didn't do anything. Had a great show at powerhouse and a positive one."
He subsequently deleted the messages and replaced them with the tweets, "postive energy... The devil is always working. If it wasn't for my faith and my fans, I would've quit music along (sic) time ago. I'm tired of it man....! stay positive".
Anaheim Police are currently investigating the latest assault allegations.
Brown has notoriously struggled to keep his temper under control - he became embroiled in a fight with rapper Drake during a night out in New York last year (12), and he was allegedly involved in a car park bust-up with singer Frank Ocean in January (13).
Jennifer Lopez was rushed off set while shooting a new music video in Florida on Sunday (05May13) after gunshots were reportedly fired nearby. The singer/actress was in the middle of an interview with news channel Entertainment Tonight's Rob Marciano on the set at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park when shots rang out.
Lopez, who had been in the area filming the promo for her track Live It Up with rapper Pitbull, was immediately taken to safety by her security team who escorted the star into her vehicle before local police arrived on the scene.
Marciano later took to Twitter.com to inform fans about the incident, writing, "BREAKING: Gunshots fired on Fort Lauderdale Beach DURING my JLo interview. No kidding. Security scrambled her away... Can hear & see ambulances converging 400 yards down the street... Police confirming: 'shots fired. no one hit.' Whew."
In a statement, Fort Lauderdale Police Department spokeswoman Detective DeAnna Greenlaw said officers attempted to investigate the incident but there appeared to be no evidence of a shooting, no witnesses and no injuries.
The tragic passing of Chris Kelly, one half of the '90s hip-hop duo Kris Kross, is bound to weigh on the hearts of his fans. Just a glance at the statement released by Kelly's performing partner and friend Chris Smith, via E!, is enough to conjure up a steady flow of tears:
"Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother. I love him and will miss him dearly. Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world with my best friend. It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection."
But what's just as important as our sensitivity to the death of a beloved artist is our celebration of his life and work. The 1990s had legions of fans entertained by Kris Kross' upbeat, wholesome, good-natured songs — cheerful hits about bus rides to school and heavier numbers about the dangers of crime and violence. The young duo's career gave us a handful of memorable entries, and we've rounded up some of our favorites in honor of "Mac Daddy" Kelly and his work with friend and fellow artist, "Daddy Mac" Smith:
"I Missed the Bus"
"Warm It Up"
"Live and Die for Hip Hop"
"It's a Shame"
