Supermodel Helena Christensen has reportedly rejected an offer to appear on U.S. reality show The Real Housewives Of New York City. The Manhattan-based Danish beauty, who has been dating Interpol rocker Paul Banks since 2008, had been approached by Bravo network bosses to feature on the upcoming seventh season of the programme, but refused, according to the New York Post.
London's Battersea Power Station, which featured on the cover of Pink Floyd's 1977 album Animals, is to be turned into a residential/industrial complex that will house stores, offices and luxury housing. The Malaysian developers funding the demolition of the fabled building on the banks of the Thames are planning to rebuild the power station's iconic smokestack towers, even painting them the same colour as the originals.
Rockers Interpol are no longer searching for a full-time bassist because frontman Paul Banks has taken on the role. Bassist and founding member Carlos Dengler left the group in 2010 shortly after they completed their fourth record and his replacement Dave Pajo quit after a year.
Brad Traux has been playing bass during live shows but the band is not looking for a permanent replacement because Banks has taken on the instrument for their upcoming fifth album.
Guitarist Daniel Kessler tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "We didn't have a discussion about what we were going to do... Then after the second rehearsal Paul was like, 'Maybe I should pick up the bass', cos it helps to anchor the songs... I was like, 'cool', and that was the first time we spoke about what we were going to do about the bass parts.
"By the end of the second or third rehearsal we'd made an incredible start to a couple of new songs... Paul surprised me with how excellent he is on the bass... we just ran with it and didn't have any conversations about it... Once those foundations happened, we found our way and we thought, 'Why would we look to other possibilities when this is working so well?'"
Banks admits they no longer talk to Dengler, telling Britain's The Guardian newspaper, "Yeah I call him an a**hole but I call my friends a**holes. I love Carlos, we all love Carlos. But I don't think he wants to see me."
The band's fifth album, titled El Pintor, is scheduled for release on 9 September (14).
Celebrity fashion designer Lloyd Klein has beaten cancer. The Hollywood-based couturier, who has dressed Tyra Banks, Miley Cyrus, Naya Rivera and Cindy Crawford, among others was diagnosed with the disease in December (13) and told he would need immediate treatment.
But, after a nine-month program of chemotherapy and radiation, Klein, who lost his father to cancer, has been given good news as his doctors declared him cancer-free.
Klein's representative tells WENN, "Although he wouldn’t hope that anyone would have to go through the process, the prognosis of being cancer free made it worthwhile and if he had to do it again... he’d say 'F**k cancer round 2'."
His business partner John Arguelles adds, "Lloyd can now add brave, valiant and resilient to his descriptives and, for me, he is a role model for anyone facing life-threatening challenges. I have no doubt that this experience will emerge on the runway in a highly creative response like he created after 9/11 and after a near-fatal car crash caused by a drunk driver 10 years ago.
"He has been sketching ideas the entire time and all I can say is the fashion world will be blown away by his Fall 2016 collection next February."
Klein has also started work on a memoir.
"It is amazing. There is going to be a team of hosts with me that specialise in different sectors of lifestyle from beauty to fashion to home; I'm gonna be leading up the beauty, make-up and business... and showing women across this country how they can be the CEO of their own lives, and be their own bosses... It's coming out next year." Tyra Banks confirms reports she's heading back to talk show TV to co-host a new series with Nicole Richie and Chrissy Teigen.
Retired catwalk queen Tyra Banks is championing a young model with skin disease vitiligo. The stunner encouraged Chantelle Brown-Young to sign up for her America's Next Top Model TV show and now she's promoting the upcoming season with the African-American beauty, who is suffering from the skin pigment condition.
Banks explains, "I'm obsessed with my social media... and I just kept seeing these beautiful pictures of this girl... and I reached out to my Top Model team and I said, 'Find her and put her in front in me in the next couple of weeks'.
The Canadian model admits she posted all her work online in the hope that someone like Banks would spot it and give her a career boost.
The former Victoria's Secret stunner adds, "I get bored with cookie cutter beauty and I think in my career I have to thank people in Paris and Italy for looking a girl that had a big forehead and big eyes and a pointy chin... When I was young I was kind of alien-esque and for them to accept me and to put me on covers for the first time, as a black girl, it made me appreciate things that are out of the box.
"When I see somebody like Chantelle I'm like, 'This is beautiful, this is unique, the world needs to see that'."
Brown-Young was four when she was first diagnosed with vitiligo; she had to leave high school because she couldn't handle the bullying surrounding her look.
Chrissy Teigen, Nicole Richie and Tyra Banks are reportedly heading to daytime TV to host a new talk show. The two models and reality TV star Richie have teamed up to launch The Fab, which will cover celebrity news, current events and lifestyle topics, according to OK! magazine.
Teigen, Richie and Banks shot the pilot for the show last week (ends17Aug14) and they are hoping to premiere it in the near future.
A source tells the publication, "Chrissy, Tyra and Nicole are all very witty and have no trouble expressing themselves. Plus, they're honest and willing to talk about their own real-life problems - and fans can relate to that."
All three have had experience hosting U.S. TV shows - Banks fronted her own talk and lifestyle show, Tyra, and oversees America's Next Top Model; Richie featured on The Simple Life and Fashion Star and currently stars in Candidly Nicole, and John Legend's wife Teigen hosts and judges TV series Snack Off!
All-girl group All Saints reunited for their first festival performance in a decade in Chelmsford, England on Saturday (16Aug14). The group, fronted by sisters Natalie and Nicole Appleton, was among the big draws on the first day of the annual V Festival - and the ladies didn't disappoint, performing a string of big hits, including Booty Call, Never Ever, Pure Shores and Under The Bridge.
They also covered tunes by Kanye West, Jay-Z and Azealia Banks.
It was a big day for the ladies at the two-site festival - Lily Allen, Blondie, Rita Ora, Janelle Monae, Katy B and Sophie Ellis-Bextor were also on the bill at both Hylands Park, Chelmsford and sister site Weston Park in Staffordshire, England.
Justin Timberlake headlined the first day in Chelmsford, taking the stage with his big band in a Tom Ford suit. He thrilled one festivalgoer, who was celebrating her birthday, by posing for a 'selfie' with her during his set.
Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Elbow and Kaiser Chiefs were also among the highlights of Saturday's festival, while The Killers headlined the event in Staffordshire with Paolo Nutini, Lily Allen, Rudimental, Ora and Jason DeRulo among the top attractions there.
The Killers thrilled fans with their rendition of Iggy Azalea's Fancy, with frontman Brandon Flowers telling the crowd, "We've sort of been working on something and we wanted to show you a little bit of it, if you don't mind hearing it."
The low point of the first day came when rockers Manic Street Preachers had to scrap their planned performance at Hylands Park after suffering travel issues in Hungary.
The Welsh rockers were in the country for a gig at the Sziget Festival on Friday (15Aug14) and they were due to fly to the U.K. for their V Festival slot in Chelmsford, England on Saturday, but the band was forced to cancel after getting stuck on a plane for five hours at an airport in Budapest before the flight crew informed them the aircraft would not be taking off.
The band did make it to the stage for their set at the Staffordshire site on Sunday (17Aug14). All acts who played the Chelmsford site on Saturday repeated their performances at Weston Park on Sunday, and vice-versa.
Sir Paul McCartney is selling off one of his beloved Martin guitars to help conservationists save African elephants. The Martin D-28 left-handed guitar, which McCartney has signed, went up for auction on eBay.com on Wednesday (13Aug14).
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Nature Conservancy's African Elephant Initiative. Bidding began at $10,000 (£5,900).
Alongside his signature, the former Beatles star - a keen animal activist - wrote, "This guitar saves elephants."
David Banks, the managing director of the The Nature Conservancy's Africa Program, says, "To have Sir Paul's support and working with Martin Guitar is a real honour. This calibre of collaboration will make a difference to help end the worst poaching crisis in history."
Justin Timberlake was left shivering after accepting an ice bucket challenge to raise funds to fight Lou Gehrig's disease.
Over the past two weeks, a fundraising phenomenon has taken social media by storm, with participants given the task of either pouring a large bucket of freezing water over themselves and donating $10 (£5.96) to the ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) Association, or donating $100 (£59.60) instead of accepting the challenge.
Those who agree to take on the task must post a video of themselves on social media completing the challenge, then nominate a few more people to get wet, and they only have 24 hours to accept. On Monday (11Aug14), the challenge reached the SexyBack hitmaker, and Timberlake posted a clip of himself, along with his touring band The Tennessee Kids, pouring the freezing cold water over themselves, leaving them stunned and soaked.
Timberlake, who nominated his pal comedian Jimmy Fallon and his talk show band The Roots to take on the challenge, also posted on his Facebook.com page that they not only donated the $10, but added the $100 plus "a bunch more. It's such a good cause."
Timberlake's former 'N Sync bandmate Lance Bass has also taken the ice bucket challenge, as well as Martha Stewart, Ansel Elgort, Eliza Dushku, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Morrison, and Joanna Garcia Swisher.
A representative for the ALS Association told Mashable.com that the organisation has raised $160,000 (£95,322) between 29 July and 11 August (14), which is 10 times higher than the same time period in 2013.
